Fighting Games Weekly | December 10-16 | The roads are still safe from Justin Wong

Pretty much everything possible went wrong with WNF/TRB.
- Commentators got worse
- Schedule absurdly late starting, not good for East Coast, people on East Coast who even did once tune in lost interest (I realize there is an issue with overlapping with Big Two though0
- Constant switching of games between days made people care less
- Long breaks even without ads, WTF were they thinking
- Competition got staler, less matches began being shown for Marvel at least
- Entertainment value couldn't hold up to Big Two where stuff going on in and around the venue makes you feel like a part of the environment as everything is happening, on top of lacking the personality that the EC has

Pretty much lost all motivation to watch even TRB archives.

This is pretty much why I stopped watching too.

Let's be real here.
The main reason WNF/TRB was successful before was cause they were on the top level of Marvel during its early days.

NY didn't really care about Marvel 3 until Ultimate.

The problem is super arcade is so far out from la proper or the valley. La guys know what I am talking about. It takes forever to get there If you are coming eastward in traffic.

I don't know if it can start earlier than it does. It is what it is on that front.

NY cared, they just weren't up to snuff. After EVO they really started stepping their shit up. But at this point, Ultimate has been out longer than vanilla and EC has been pretty inarguably more fun to watch for most of that time.

But yeah I would say the correlation your describing is very strong.

I don't enjoy watching any weekly, and that's not just because I don't have the time to.

I play Hawk. Yun and Yang are probably his best matchups at 3.5 each.

Seriously, it's that bad for the twins.

Will do.

Wait how am I supposed to do 5mod doesn't Tony Hawk have more health than most other characters? What hell?

For TRB, I think Rynge and Genesis are getting better commentary wise, hopefully they get comfortable enough to joke around some more. Player wise there is a is a lack of hunger, but I think its mostly because of fatigue and the holidays. I expect once Evo season or IPL stuff comes into play a lot more of the killers will be showing up. Also I have next to no downtime once the tournament starts, unless we need to do a promo for the sponsors (which 2-3 times a night at most).

Man, the Guilty Gear people need to make an effort to try and bring guys like Ruu and NO out here.
Kazunoko and Dogura were here last year, and Kazunoko absolutely destroyed everyone so free, it makes Infiltration's matches look close, but still, their main focus was on Street Fighter, and Dogura even dropped out.
Plus, characters like Bridget are so much more fun.

Changing topic - anyone else miss the old WNF? Back when it was AE and Marvel it seemed to be so much more important. Splitting it to have the Capcom games on separate days seems to have deflated it.

Also, who is getting Injustice on launch? I need me some MK-alike goodness.

Splitting it to two days is the main reason i stopped watching.

I think they split it because they are trying to make those other games(Persona,VF,TTT2,KOF13) more popular. Get people to come for the Marvel/Street Fighter and get exposed to the lesser known games. I think they problem is that those other games are not spectator friendly, with the exception of maybe KOF13.

1) They are but there are still no connection for the audience to connect with.
2) 100% correct, the competition is just boring to watch. I don't care to see Infrit running his random ass C team. Half the big name players don't even show up.
3) You sure about that? I don't watch WNF or TRB it its entirety, but every time I log in all I see is that damn logo for a good 15% of the time that I am tuned in.

This is fine, but then the people stop coming. I wholly respect their efforts to bring exposure to non-Capcom games though, it's just maybe having 2 hours of KoF and 3 matches of Marvel at the end isn't really the best way to tailor to your viewership.

This. So. Much.

Most of the time I tune in it's just at that screen and I'm thinking WHY IS NOTHING HAPPENING, NOT EVEN AN AD

The original idea behind the logo/splash page was to run ads without awkwardly interrupting the commentators or to hide things like console switches or whatnot, but since I don't really stream anything else besides Marvel I've stopped using beyond the beginning of the stream. The other use is that I pull the title graphic up to hide me switching to the proper sponsor ad. I hate when you pull up an ad and then quickly switch it to another's ad that you want to talk about at that time period. Since xsplit has limited shots, I have to stack the ads all under one shot and flip through them as layers.

You'll see Tony Hawk, when I break MY skateboard over you're head.

so you are the johnny Ace of SF4

Glad to see I'm not the only one that lost interest in watching WNF/TRB ^^ Nowadays it's just...boring... =/
But I gotta say, it's not because you, Offcast, is around us, but WNF was WAY better when you did call ins with someone from the community answering questions, some prank calls, but it was fun

NO did make it out to a Swedish iirc, tournament earlier this year or last year I can't recall. And while Kusoru's Marvel debut was a big splash, the GG side tournament was amazing with his troll badguy.

I think efforts like the Stickbug/Ogrelive NEC quals should probably wait till +R comes out and everybody is on the same version at the least.

I stopped watching WNF when Skullgirls went away. Kept watching TRB for a little while longer, but the KOF sessions were REALLY long. Mahvel came back more often a while later, but school and life in general has me busy. Also, Salty cupcakes is on Thursdays and I watched the last 4-5 instead.

I find it hard to stay up past twelve for anything that isn't Skullgirls or studying(dat Calc II).
Between this and Infamous 2.... I need a bigger hard drive.

I stopped watching WNF once they split it; I'd watch the whole thing but my primary interest was Marvel. Once they split it the commentators on TRB are fucking awful, and the last few times I tuned in it seemed to be mostly other games (which is what it is).

Half of the problem though is that it doesn't start until about midnight east coast time, which is ridiculous on a week night. I used to tolerate that to an extent or at least catch the archives, but with the split/sponsored games (hours of PASBR? No.)/terrible commentators I haven't bothered in months.

Buying a 750GB hard drive has been so worth it for me after getting PS+. Only problem was that I didn't have a spare external to back everything up to so I needed to buy 2 hard drives at the time.

A few things stopped my WNF viewing.

Extremely late start time for east coast
Splitting marvel and ae
Demonstrations at the beginning for games that i don't give a shit about (or formats that i don't care about e.g. 2v2)
Top tier players stopped going

I agree with the Youtube comment saying that the west should move to a head-to-head format.

Why? You know in real sports (basketball, football, baseball, soccer) you can hear everything the other team is doing. I really hope IPL/MLG don't adopt this stupid shit. It would just be another idiotic thing for E-Sports to do to show the world that they are nothing like actual sports.

You already know FGC sure as hell ain't changing.

#2/4 seem to be related. Thursday is travel day for a lot of people.

Nice interview, I look forward to seeing more of Daigo next year. Hopefully he can finally come up with a game plan to beat Infiltration next time. Hell, I hope someone can. It's no fun when someone is that dominant. But yeah, he kept it short and simple when it came to his match with Infiltration. I wished he delved a bit more into it, like his thoughts on counter picking and stuff like that.

To be fair, Xiaoyu doesn't have much of a neutral game outside of st.mp and whiffing the overhead in the hopes that you'll catch a low or something.

I wonder what Tatsu thinks of her, because I don't see any reason why she's not a fucking terrible character.

That's why I used Vega/Ibuki over Vega/Xiaoyu. Same concept, but Ibuki is much more versatile.

I stopped watching Level up anything once other places offered better Marvel. The well known people on the West coast never showed up, Ultra david, and Gems Chen stopped showing, and the the known players only showed up when there's a tournament the next day. Also, the one time they played P4a finals offstream because Justin showed up, and his SFIV troll matches where he played Bison were more important. I was mad =/
