Other M deserves better

I like to imagine that Adam stepped away from his console to drop a deuce right before Samus stepped into the Hot Hot Place and the point where she confronts that boss is when he finally comes back and he's thinking "Oh holy crap what are you doing why haven't you activated your Varia Suit yet?"

Because then I laugh, and I get at least SOME enjoyment out of this game.

There doesn't have to be sexist terminology. The male has to treat the female character the way he does because of sex. A strong female character can choose to follow the orders of a male CO if the situation demands it; this relationship is not inherently sexist. Samus is very powerful in the game. She weakens herself for the sake of the safety of Adam's crew, but even with most of her powers tied behind her back she's still the most powerful force on the ship. She could have easily done what she wanted with her power, but she's civil.

The way characters treat eachother in a story doesn't really matter as much as the way that treatment is framed. You can easily have a story with sexist characters(whether they be pro or antagonists) without the story itself being sexist.

I'm still not really sure what you think I meant by this, because I didn't say Fusion is at fault at all. Fusion is just the first game to actually include any of the narrative that exposes that this is the way Sakamoto thought about Samus.

No no, I'm past you now. Mostly I'm just mad that the myth of a Samus who had no personality prior to Other M persists. It's like people didn't play Fusion, and that's the real offense here.

Terrible, terrible story and characters. Completely destroyed Samus as a character turned her from a badass silent killing machine to a whiny, insecure, frightened, submissive little girl straight out of some repressed Japanese business man's imagination of his perfect woman. Yes I'm aware of Fusion and the Manga but the way she is portrayed here is much worse.

But story has never been important to me in Metroid. The biggest let down was the linearity and bad design choices regarding power up usage and completely lack of interesting puzzles. Also the space station wasn't a very good environment for a whole game they really should have made the main setting an alien planet.

The good things were the speed of the gameplay. The combat and platforming are actually pretty good, very actiony and flashy. The graphics are pretty good especially through Dolphin but the federation soldier costume design is terrible, they look ridiculous.

Oddly enough I managed to find it somewhat enjoyable and finished it 100% but for a Metroid game it is a massive disappointment. If the game had of followed the Super Metroid mould but retained the same controls and combat (excluding first person) it could have been amazing. I really hope it hasn't killed the franchise as it's one of the all time greats.

I actually thought the base story was ok. The dialogue was bad, but the premise of the game was, I thought, good. I liked the environments as well. I also enjoyed the base gameplay. My problem was that the game just felt far too linear with little reason to explore or even have the illusion of exploration. The way that Samus gets power-ups or accessories was pretty awful, as has been mentioned plenty of times.

Personally, I was mixed on the game. I just went through it within the past year after putting it off from being initially disgusted (I bought it day 1). I can definitely see why it gets the criticism it gets, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't get some enjoyment out of it.
