The article is surely implying that 4GB of GDDR5 will match the PERFORMANCE (not capacity) of 8GB DDR3.
THERE IS NO WAY THE SYSTEM WILL HAVE 8GB OF GDDR5

So apparently do you think that Sony will never manage to keep up with their competitors regarding worldwide releases.See above man, there is no evidence to suggest things have changed no?
It is wishfull thinking.
Gotcha, so they switched it up a generation earlier. The Wii and DS were released in the US first as well.
We have confirmed with sources that recently leaked tech specs are accurate. Though Durango devkits offer 8GB of DDR3 RAM, compared to Orbiss 4GB, Sonys GDDR5 solution is capable of moving data at 176 gigabytes per second, which should eliminate the sort of bottlenecks that hampered PS3 game performance. Importantly, weve learned that Sony has told developers that it is pushing for the final PS4 RAM to match up to Microsofts 8GB.
Guys hey... guys.. read the article. To me, even though I'm a hype whore, reads that the 4GB of GDDR will match up with the 8GB of DDR in terms of the capacity gap. Otherwise they could of just said the PS4 will have 8GB of memory.
For sony it is. & if sony hope to dethrone xbox in us, I laugh. It's not better delay in japan than in eu? wiiU is a disaster in this country & they hope to do better?
I'm not THAT tech savvy.
What does 'Stacked Ram' mean, and why is that special?
What does the G in GDDR5 mean, and why GDDR5 dying out?
Why is GDDR5 already out, but DDR4 isn't?
Holy shit ... colour me impressed if they manage to keep the 8gb of RAM for the consumer version!
Would you mind answering my question? I've done some minor wikipedia browsing but it's still quite hard to understand. Thank you if you can!
G is for graphics because it's mainly used in video cards.
Not sure what people mean by saying that GDDR5 is "dying out."
GDDR5 is a fast, high-bandwidth type of memory that's based on DDR3.
DDR4 is a new type of memory with more dramatic design changes.
One can only dream!!I bet the Euro launch has nothing to do with distribution and everything to do with gt6.

Im not just talking about sony im talking on the whole, ms roll out pretty much ww, even nintendo its weeks between, vita was also pretty close if im not mistaken between us and eu launch. To have a few month gap is bonkers and could cost them in the region.

They could have simply added 4 GB of slow DDR3 to act as a data cache and have it accessed via southbridge. A sort of RAM disk?

Because this time Japan can wait. There's no reason to launch there instead of Europe. Especially if the NextBox won't be released in Japan. To those complaining about EU getting it later - I'm in the UK - I would say to you this:
Every Sony console, ever, has released in Japan significantly earlier than the EU.
Every Sony console, ever, has released in NA ealier than the EU.
Why the fuck would people expect this to be any different?
Am I the only one that really loves this?

Thanks for clarifying. I thought DDR4 was a new Dance Dance Revolution game.
But I was, and am, clearly reffering to Sony.
They have never launched at the same time in the EU. To counter this by saying that MS do it or Nintendo do it is simply not relevant. Sony do not.
They never have. My point was that to expect otherwise on baseless ground is silly at best.
I don't agree with it, hell, I'm gutted, I'd like a new console this year.
But no one should be surprised by this.
It's not about 'keeping up'. It's about Sony doing things the way they always have, even at the height of their popularity.
Will anyone be upset if it launches at $399? Seems like there is a lot of good will or optimism towards PS4 and price may be the only potential hang up. Anything 400 or below would be great imo.
They aren't gonna go too crazy, I mean at its basics the ps3 and xbox controller are very similar(button setup, etc). I'd honestly be happy with new L2/R2 triggers.I hope idiots don't poo poo the controller redesign. Unless you've held it - shut up. I don't want another straight DualShock.
Someone made a good point on the last page, but the big difference is that both the new systems will be closer the pc. Nobody, besides first party and naughty dog, knew how to max out the ps3. Since both the nextgen consoles are going to be so similar, being more powerful will make a noticeable difference this time around.I have a question,
wasn't the PS3 more powerful than the 360?
That didn't help much, it should not be the focus. Better to understand how that power will be used.
MS already has me in a stage where I trust them no matter what they do next gen. They earned my business.
I'm hoping PS4 really does push the envelope, and comes back strong. I want competition. I don't want their top be just one console to choose from.
No need to go that far. No offense but the fan-boy wars here on GAF will be just as good. Except in GAF people get banned after a while of stupidity.
I think he got the point the first time, but by all means revel in your superiority for not letting hype get to you

Don't forget the rumor of 8GB or 16GB Devkits

Also, Sony IP are mostly western-centric (even japanese productions like Gran Turismo).
And Japan prefers (Nintendo) handhelds.
In my opinion, they should give priority to US, Europe and Japan, in this order.
Of course a WW launch would be welcome, eheh.
What was the gap between us and eu psvita launch?.

what about 6 GB of GDDR5?
Sonys arrogance towards Europe could be MS advantage. Launch the 720 with AW 2 as a launch title and it could do serious damage to them IMO.
Apparently the 15 minute recording happens in the background without any hit on performance... but what about uploading?
What's the chances it'll pause your game while it does the work to get it uploaded?

Have you seen the last couple of Microsoft E3's?!
Also look at Sony 1st party vs MS 1st party. There's your answer to the
"more powerful" question.
Why the fuck would you assign a whole button on a controller to only do Sharing?
And no way it gets 8gb of GDDR5. That just isn't happening.
The Vita released at the same time for NA/EU actually.

I tried to answer earlier.
To clarify, GDDR5 will eventually be replaced by GDDR6, but GDDR6 won't be out until 2014. DDR4 won't be widely available until the end of 2013, which is far too late for either Microsoft or Sony to put it in their console.
If that is true when why has the 360 in it's year headstart fail to gain a stronger foothold? Europe has proven it could wait in the past, why would it suddenly change? I just don't see the rationale.
