Analyst: GTAV budget $137M, likely to outsell COD next year

I don't care how much they're spending on it.

I very much doubt I'll pick it up before it reaches the magic €20/£20 price point.

I've already had my fill of GTA, I'm in no rush to play any more of the same.

Yeah I don't either. That's why I was glad they started throwing the "this was made with the game" or whatever. I mean, that was my job to make those trailers, so it would always frustrate me when there was that argument about if it was in game, or whatever. Trust me, no one wants to see a trailer of 3rd person walking... or do they?

People loved stuff like this:

Red Dead Redemption - Life in the Waest part I
Red Dead Redemption - Life in the Waest part II

For Red Dead, LA Noire and Max Payne 3.

I fucking love R* trailers, mind you, though these were fantastic as well, and better than any written preview.
GTA doesn't have these, unfortunately.. i guess they're more confident about them and prefer to remain tightlip'd.

GTA games also tend to have long legs, i know San Andreas was on the charts for years after its release and next gen rolled on. The same goes for GTA4.

Do not care if it outsells CoD, love both series. I just hope they make some great DLC for GTA5, 3-5 hour single player expansion packs like the 2 for GTA4 is what every game should strive to get as DLC.

I doubt GTA5 will sell more than GTA4, 4 disapointed many people, who might not want to buy a new GTA game blindly. Anyway, whether it sells more than GTA4 or CoD, GTA5 will still print money anyway.

That is a crazy figure to begin with, but does it just take production into account or does that include marketing and promotion and so forth? This game has got to be amazing...it will be amazing.

GTA5 is coming out to late in the gen. I think it is going to massively under sale.

Given that it gives consumers reason not to drop $400+ on new hardware right away and instead only spend $60 (plus inevitable DLC) to play the next game in a huge franchise, I think you're off-base. The install base is already huge for PS3/360, so the potential audience is massive as compared to making it Orbis/Durango-exclusive, which is a huge gamble.

If anything, the "under sale" danger here lies with Orbis and Durango, which could see WiiU-style starts if GTA V is as good as it could be. Combine GTA with the yearly CoD (even if there are Orbis/Durango ports) and there is lowered impetus to drop a ton of cash this holiday for the mass market.

Just development costs.
GTAIV was 100+mln of just development, this looks like it's several times bigger(not just in terms of map, but content, too) so it's not absurd.

Problem is that GTA should sell over time. This is going to be cut with new consoles launching and by coming out at the end of a gen. Important to note we are seeing generational decline; I don't think anyone will deny that earlier would have been better. 2012 the most optimal, early 2013 is okay but September is pushing into new console territory.

The DLC situation is why being on next gen might be beneficial. Then you'd continue to sell; instead they'll be selling to a declining audience as opposed to a growing one.

I think where its launching will make it more sensitive to the quality of its final product.

GTAIV left me salty as hell. In fact, I never even finished the last mission because of the broken controls.

they've had a ton of time to work on this game, so hopefully they fix everything that was wrong with GTAIV
