Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

I'm not sure I understand the 3DS online thing. You can get online, but you need a lan adapter and a Wii U so if a friend comes over with a 3DS you can go online together instead of just doing local? Does that sound right?

was thinking the whole thing sounded completely pointless but not now you've said that

No, only one player can go online per Wii U. It hooks into MH3G HD's infrastructure, so you play with other Wii U players and bridged 3DS players instead of just other 3DS players. This is the key difference between it and AHP/XLK.

I think it's more if you have a WiiU but already own or prefer MH3 on 3DS there is now a way to get online. You don't need to buy the console version.

One of the players needs to be playing the WiiU-version because the 3DS-version can't create lobbies and the WiiU-app is just tunneling.

So does this mean that now, if I have a friend in the room with the 3DS version, I can go online, he can use his 3DS copy and tunnel through with me, and we can hook up to 2 other online players say, for a party of 4?

Online for 3DS but requires Wii U and LAN adapter o_O

It'll be perfect for us and it means we'll be able to keep our hunting party together (without having to buy a second Wii U at least). We already have a Wii LAN adapter, so I wonder if that will work.

That's what I took it to mean, so I hope it's true. Otherwise, what's the point of going online?

Taken from Nintendo life.

While today's 3DS Nintendo Direct from Japan showed a variety of interesting upcoming games, there was a surprise announcement of a new peripheral that will allow those with Monster Hunter 3 G on 3DS in Japan to take their local multiplayer games online for the first time. All you need is a Wii U and a special LAN adapter.
The wired accessory plugs into the Wii U, and a relay download tool is also required. You can then connect for online play on the 3DS version of the game, though there are a couple of limitations at this stage.
The Wii U version of the game can't be played at the same time that the relay tool is being used for the 3DS version.
You cannot create a four player lobby, but only join a lobby setup by someone with the Wii U version.
At the moment this is only confirmed for Japan, though with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on 3DS also lacking online multiplayer, it'll be interesting to see if the same solution will be available in the West. It may not be perfect, but it will allow owners of just the 3DS game, when at home, to enjoy some online play. Though you will need that adapter and a Wii U.

I just tried the demo quickly. Graphics aren't too hot and gameplay seems very simple. First time playing Monster Hunter though. Demo probably cuts out a lot of stuff.

damn... I am really terrible with the bowgun on the 3ds. back in my tri days, I always played a gunner :7
lagombi went down without any problems, but I am not sure if I can defeat plesioth that easily

Downloaded the demo from both my 3DS and WiiU, 3DS done ages ago, WiiU only at 30%, God damn, must be a shitload of game starved WiiU owners getting on this demo.

Have they addressed whether or not voice chat will just cut off while you're loading into a new area?

"Hey I think ------------------------------- OH GOD HELP, WHERE ARE YOU?"

"Sorry, I was loading, did you find him?"

bad gameplay lol
I know I said this in the demo thread, but I'm really disappointed that I won't be getting this now (3DS). It's hard to see what's going on on the 3DS' screen, the 3D is weird, everything is a blurry mess in 2D, the text is so tiny I can barely read it, and my hand started hurting almost immediately thanks to the 3DS not being terribly ergonomic. I really, really do want to play this (I've got hundreds of hours in MH across various entries in the series), but until I get an XL or a Wii U, it's just not going to happen. Which is disappointing as hell. =/

Pretty nice looking game for the most part. A shame about the water on D. Island though.

Managed to kill the Ples with Switch Axe, hooray. Been mostly testing out weapons against Lagombi though. I still love my SA and Hammer as always. Bow seems like a really cool weapon too, probably better served playing with others though. I enjoy being able to charge it while I walk around, like the Hammer.

This game should be played with the CPP in the smaller 3DS. Unfortunately the demo doesn't support it

Please tell me that the full game will support Wiimote+Nuchuck controls. I was worried at not finding it in the demo.

I downloaded the demo on my Wii U and 3DS but I seriously don't understand what's going on. It would've been nice if Capcom included a tutorial in this thing.

3DS version has a virtual manual if you press HOME while in game and look to the bottom left. You can at least learn how each weapon works.

Definitely just throws you right in there. Although the 'tutorial' in single player Tri was pretty long and would have made for a pretty boring demo.

That sounds like a disaster. I never even touched the nunchuck controls in Tri.

It really isn't. There is no waggling, its the movement of wrists. You move the wrist to hold the wiimote face up or sideways to do low/high attacks and it works extremely well. Also all the arm wrestling fights are easy win because of waggling.

In this demo you can only play with Gamepad, Wii classic controller and Pro WiiU controller...

Yeah, I know. Thats why I asked if the full game will support Wiimote+Nunchuck

I never played any game in this series before.

Day 1 purchase? I am getting hyped just from all the hype you guys have created and what I have read up on from the PR.

And currently after finishing NSMBU all I have been playing is BLOPSII multi-player.

It worked really well, but it was totally optional. Everything that was mapped to motion was also mapped to a button. Wiimote+Chuck was my preferred way to play by far.

Decided to make a google document for the game when it is release, everyone add your info to it
Might wanna hide it under an email code quote, (so it's only visible upon quoting) if you just want GAF members on it that is, and so it's hidden from lurkers if you mind them. Quote me for an example ;)

i played it and its alright i guess. is there a lock on button on the wiiU version? i tried everything and nothing locked on. i probably wouldn't care if i used a melee guy but i chose the arrow guy and its just impossible to hit things consistently

There is a monster icon on the touch screen which changes the function of the L Shoulder button. By default, the button refocuses the camera behind the hunter. If you tap the icon on the touch screen, it changes the L Shoulder button to refocus on the monster. It's not truly a 'lock on' mechanic, but just a handy tool if you're playing without a second analog. Makes underwater combat much more bearable. And yes, the feature is in the Wii U version as well.

Try out some of the fast melee weapons before passing judgement. Slow (but powerful) weapons and ranged weapons tend to have a much higher learning curve. Keep in mind this demo only features the hunting aspect of the game and there's a lot more to the full experience with crafting, gathering, different sorts of quest (delivery, trapping monsters), etc. And always better if you find someone to play with, although some will say single player is just as good.

who said 60fps for the Wii U version?

It looks like a stuttery 25-30fps based on the demo.

Now the 3DS version! Whoa. 60fps at times and with 4xAA in 2d mode.

They are both 45 fps.

Wii U doesn't usually hit it, but 3DS is locked at it I believe.

I'm already on board for the full game, but here are some quick demo thoughts:

--I love that you can try out the different weapons. Gives you plenty of time to figure out what you want to use as your main in the full game.
--The graphics aren't impressive on a tech level, but I think the game looks good. Nice & clean with great art direction, which is really all you need nowadays. It's really nice to have Monster Hunter in HD -- coming from the Wii, the difference is text readability is a godsend.
--Love the touchscreen options. Makes gestures & item use much, much more easily accessible.
--On the flip side of readability, they need to fix the arrow that indicates your location on the mini-map. Most of the time, I have no idea what direction the arrow is facing. It's too small. I seem to remember seeing the map on the GamePad in some preview, so maybe I'm missing that option. Or maybe I imagined that.
--On the note of load times, I have mixed feelings. It's nice that they're so short now, but I feel as though Capcom could've eliminated them completely if they really gave it a go.
--Sweet Jesus, I hope the final game has mappable controls. I played Tri with the Wii remote-chuck combo, & had no complaints. On the GamePad, I'm sipping potions on accident every three seconds & fumbling for the roll button. Do the ZL & ZR triggers do anything? Surely I'll get used to them, but the button locations are currently a hurdle.

Overall, I'm pumped for the 19th. It's Monster Hunter, it's in HD, it's got loads of content, & the Wii U has a nice, (mostly) civil online community to play with.
