Knack (PS4) Announced

If it's anything like Cerny's past work on Playstation, it's going to be a great game that is very well polished (just look at the Spyro games and Jak and Daxter)

Really, that doesn't impress you? :S What is it missing other than what Violater says, which I agree with, although it's not really a problem but it definitely would be nice.

Maybe cloud shadows on the floor. Needs more sunlight too I reckon.

i honestly want to know what's so impressive about that gif? you can release shock waves, only this time with particles? maybe there will be new game play elements, but nothing in the trailer/demo showcased any.
the graphics are ok, i guess. i'm currently playing ni no kuni, and the graphics aren't that far off from knack. i remember being impressed by kameo the first time i saw it, and how everything with a similar art style paled in comparison graphically. knack is just not it, it looks on par with viva pinata.

Yeah, Cerny had so much enthusiasm and passion for this. Too bad the game's visuals leave much to be desired.

It reminds me of Cubix: Robots For Everyone, mixed with the Astroboy from IMAGI Studios.

I actually had more of a buzz years ago watching the trailer for Ratchet and Clank Future.

I'm really glad to see people coming around on this game!

I was immediately impressed by this when it was first shown, it just gives off that old Sony vibe that I really love.

It was pretty depressing to see everyone shit on this, this is exactly the kind of game that we need more of.

It looks like fun but safe and predictable content. It really seemed like I had already seen that exact content before somewhere, like a Dreamworks movie that I forgot existed.

1) Comparing this to a Dreamworks movie is a high compliment (which I agree with, so far).

2) Movies and games are inherently not the "exact (same) content."

Is there any other source for the UE4 report? I've searched and Eurogamer is the only one saying that it's UE4. I don't remember Cerny saying which engine it was running on. Did they assume that's the engine because he went from presenting that Elemental demo to showing Knack?

I LOVED it. The art style is reminiscent of Osamu Tezuka. And being a dad, I always need justification for a big purchase like a PS4 that it can be used by the entire family. Plus its Cerny, so it's going to be a GOOD family game.

I'm in for Knack and Knack alone.

The first UE4 game is a first party Sony game from Japan...

Eh?

Edit: I guess I should say, one of the first.

Maybe the eurogamer is simply wrong. They are the only ones who mentioned that, and they wrote article during the pressconf.

As I recall, he only demoed UE4 without mentioning engine of his game.

I think the game looks great. It's a planned trilogy or something right? Sony needs new IPs to breath fresh air into their system, and if this can showcase remote play with the Vita (and have it work well) then more power to them. I for one will get this day one, unless it's terrible but if it's SCEJ I have faith in them.

What's his face seemed upset on stage that the audience didn't respond with more hype, you know, the chief hardware architect or whatever. Seemed like a pompous dick to be honest.

"MY game I'm developing :)"

Audience: ......

Wow, what am I reading, wow.

He seemed more assertive than anything else, also this was the right game to start off with. But I think everyone left with Killzone in mind. Given how this industry love to have a single point person come out to discus the game and how gamers love to get angry at a single person/identity behind a game... kinda makes sense overall. Also I assume that Cerny is going to be a part of the marketing machine for the ps4.

I think the main character's running animation reminds me of this guy.

forgot about the croc, pretty great game was he ea?

Looks alright but I can't take the trailer seriously because of the art style and tone it gives off.

It's funny how people bitch about there being too much brown and grey and Ultra-Realism™ in games nowadays, and then when something's shown that isn't any of those things, that looks bright and lighthearted, you have people saying they "can't take it seriously". :p

Personally, I think it looks like a lot of fun. The trailer puts me in mind of Ratchet and Clank and (as several other people have mentioned) some of the more lighthearted titles from the PS1 era.

I think use of goblins as a enemy is dumb also didn't care for the professor. The game is interesting overall but they could have gone further away from the AstroBoy style professor.

No, CGI. There's only one short gameplay part in the trailer and I'm not impressed.

I don't understand how some people can't see the quality the gif shows. Look at the effects, lighting, the smoothness, the particles, the time frame it happens under etc - I do want the wind effect and maybe cloud shadows we mentioned though. I think people find it hard to judge without playing it for themselves. They can't spot differences with brief footage or they remember last/current gen being more powerful than it is.

I haven't played Ni No Kuni but from the trailer it's pretty clear there is not much comparison, although it's a very nicely styled game.

That gif really shows off how beautiful foliage is going to be.

does anyone notice the armor falling off the goons as they die? i think its funny that they pass out with nothing but their underwear, and their armor flying everywhere.

kind of gives it an "old game" vibe since back when there was less detail, some games would have things fall off the enemy to signify they were dead.

It seems slightly too dusky though - only when the lighting gets bright during his special move does it seem impressive. I hope they bump up the lighting generally as well and make the effect even more emphasised or slightly different as it seems just a tad too grey for the most part at the moment = sadness.

Reminds me of the old Spyro games.

Knack looks great and it adds needed variety to the launch window. I applaud them for doing a game like this. It has some serious talent behind it, and we haven't even seen much from it yet outside of the vita demonstration and the gameplay featured in the UI section of the conference.

Here's hoping it is playable at E3.

When I saw the game at the stream I wasn't impress at all, but after the yt trailer I must say I can't wait for this game, it really reminds me of the ps1 games like the old looney toons, crash, croc, spyro, and ratchet & clank and I love all of them.

The stream didn't do justice to this game, it looks so next gen and has the vide from the tech demo of Zelda on Wii U.

The only thing that doesn't do for me is the name.

I feel like this game could really go either way in it's final 6 months of development.

I think they've got a great looking hero with a fun setting, but the little things need to really be pulled together to make it great.

The humans and enemies could use a style tweak, and hopefully the visuals get a good bump as well.

This was the only game that I found interesting out of the whole line up shown on the 20th. Here's to hoping for a major double come back for Cerny!

This definitely looks like a day 1 purchase based on the mind behind it and the pleasing direction. Could be a good showcase game and I hope it will be a launch title.

I've waited a while to comment on Knack but here I go.

The game just looks so generic and bland. The combat system just looks like a simple beat em up and the graphics are honestly not that impressive at all. Having said all that we've barely seen much of the game and I'm sure there will be much improvement by the time it is released. I'll just have to wait and see at E3 if the title has improved.

What makes it generic and bland? If it is generic, what is it copying? if it is bland, why does it look bland? And why are you criticizing 5 seconds of a character beating up an enemy?

Looks quite charming as others have mentioned ... loads of potential for different gameplay scenarios with such an interesting character design!
