I would assume since it is using over the counter pc parts devs can tap the consoles full potential right away.

No more graphical curves like in previous gens with proprietary hardware.

Yeah, i'm guessing the leap from start of gen to last of gen won't be as big as current gen.
Still, there will be a curve.

edity: and i thought it looked very good. WOuld be a nice start for PS4 if this was doable. I think it is.

Well that looks as next-gen as anything announced till now! Kind of similar to Killzone 4 which is expected, I guess.

Didn't think I'd make it through that point A to B walkthrough. Not expecting much, except for Battlefield to go the way of Medal of Honor in a few more iterations.

So a more COD-fied version of BF3's single player mode. People are excited about this... why?

It looks slightly better whoopdidoo

Can't wait for Metro to be introduced in a 'best of bf3' DLC map pack

It looks good but gameplay wise it's the same old tired stuff. I am still interested though because Battlefield MP is pretty awesome.

The trailer would be mind blowing if running on console. They could perfectly be using a Titan, so what´s the merit. I supposse first time we will see this running in next gen consoles will be in Durango conference...

Nice graphics, the game is the same shooter I've been playing the last ten years...

There won't be a lot of change in that when it comes to millitary shooters. Not sure what people expect... The'll try to up the immersion and the quality of it all. Not that many people will notice.

i wouldn't say that yet. If you walk outside the pre-determined path you will get instakilled like in BF3 :D

Who knows, but it sounds like there are changes.

There will be different approaches to key situations – players can hang back with a sniper rifle or grab a jeep and charge into the fray. Indeed, in the Fishing in Baku sequence, there were apparently ways to sneak through with little gunfire; the player could also have spent longer in the taxi, bolting around the countryside. The idea is to emulate those spontaneous, player-created moments of tension and narrative we know from online play.

"It won't be an open-world game," clarifies the studio's general manager, Karl Magnus Troedsson, later on. "It's actually a combination. There are epic, dramatic set-pieces where we control the player more – but even there, we still want to give you autonomy, so if you're inside something more controlled, you have to decide when to participate. But when you get to other parts of the game, like the big action bubble in the construction site in our demo, that's where the big change is happening. We didn't get as far as we wanted with BF3 - so we thought, 'you know what? When you get into a fight in one of our games, it's got to be much more like it is in multiplayer - you need to have the freedom of movement, the choice of tactics, weapons and vehicles…'"

Why ?

It means you get the quality and performance advantages of late gen games at the start of the gen.

Without a curve- PC will take over faster... which is not a bad thing.
Many people dumped PS3/360 in favor of PC over the last 2 years or so because console graphics have grown very stale.

Except there's still going to be the same sort of curve with next gen hardware as well. The games at the end will look far better than anything we've seen so far. Deep down included.

Looks fantastic! I really hope the next-gen consoles look identical to this. Hot damn I can't wait.

Textures are the best I've seen.

This may sound dumb but I wonder if this will be optimized enough to run on current high end cards without a hitch on high or ultra. I've never had a gaming PC during a generation crossover.

...damn I just went 'meh'...
Not sure if I need BF4; BF3 is just fine but we'll see with more info on the multi.

Kind of wish they'd gone for a spin off. This approach is just far too stylised for me.

I can also hope that more than one (1) developer uses the extra power of new technology to do things other than "walk down 2-10m wide corridor, wait for cutscene or QTE, repeat," which is what we were talking about.

I agree, but I think diversity in the gaming industry is a good thing.

edit: sorry for DP :(

The demo sure looks nice, but so did the Aliens Colonial Marines demo that ran on top of the line hardware. More (PhysX?) particles, volumetric smoke, DoF, and post processing effects in general sure add a lot to this update, but I'm a bit worried that stuff is reserved for stupid expensive Titan or SLI / Crossfire set ups. Question is, what's going to be left of the improved graphics for people with average hardware, who will have to disable those effects for decent fps. Much more important, can they pull off the same fidelity in multiplayer, where things aren't that carefully scripted like the explosions in this demo? I highly doubt it!

Gameplay wise I don't have high hopes that DICE / EA is finally trying to find an unique voice for the Battlefield franchise to set itself apart from CoD's single player if the demo is any indication for the entire campaign.

That said, lets hope after the death of the MoH franchise, that Battlefield Bad Company will fill its place in 2014 with a Frostbite engine that isn't bogged down by the fact it has to scale down to PS3 / 360.

God, I miss leveling buildings to the ground so so much!

Yeah, looks good. This is pretty much what I expected from launch titles for next gen. E3 2014 is when shit is going to get real.

720p @ 60fps for both PS4/Durango. If EA wants COD players like the chinese leak suggested then they're going to sacrifice a lot for a high frame rate.

I find this rather silly...This looks like a nice little upgrade from BF3 on PC, but not spectacularly so by any stretch. BF3 already sun at near 60fps at 1080p on a 7850. With further optimization I don't see how it is not possible here. Everything shown in the clip looked highly linear and scripted. To me this looks like a launch title fps, in the realm of KZ (although I much prefered that given the setting and aesthetic). Stuff down the road will hopefully touch Agni and Deep Down, which are tech demos, but looked well above this visually.

I got to like 8 minutes in before I just gave up. I love BF (even if BF3 was a disappointment) and will probably get this day 1 but the SP is just pretty much dead to me.

Not just BF, I cant play CoD anymore either. Or any modern military shooter. Its seems soooo......... dull.

Action tells a story independent of the narrative and it's an uninteresting one. The segments seem arbitrarily woven together which makes everything those soldiers do completely moronic on a story level. It's also an imitation of Call of Duty game play which needs to die and be replaced with more fluid scenarios, more options, better AI. DICE need to learn that looking cool isn't sufficient for compelling action - not only from a game perspective but also flow of action (set pieces also need set ups). From what I see the campaign will only be good for eye candy.

And what did you get new with the PS3 and 360 at launch? Perfect Dark, PGR, Resistance and Motorstorm? Chill. These things take time and money.

No they mostly take design decisions first. If you aim for pretty but boring, you are not going to change the boring by pumping more money to the pretty.

For the people comparing KZ visuals with Battlefield's. For me it really doesn't matter. Killzone's gameplay just doesn't hand a candle to any of the top tier shooter franchises, and that's including Battlefield.

I though Killzone 2 was more fun to play than any recent Battlefield single player. Killzone 3 unfortunately was trying to be Call of Battlefield

I'm not the only one who thinks Killzone Shadow Fall looks better, right? Am I crazy?

They both look good. I think they spend their rendering budgets on different things. That KZ4 demo does a better job presenting a big space (although that construction site does look incredible) whereas the BF4 demo has more local detail lighting, shadows, environmental effects (the KZ4 also had good burning, etc)
