...and those who consider them to be terrible at parody forget that Rockstar is intentionally corny and tongue-in-cheek.
That was not running on a current gen console.
PC or next gen?
Both?
It will be on PC, but obviously not launch day. Probably in 2014.
People buy GTA to walk around a city causing chaos and have fun. I know when I discuss GTA with my friends we don't mention how great of a parody/satire it is of U.S. life.
Crazy is it sounds, it's the bolded I'm really excited about. Weather in RDR made that game shine like no other game. Just standing there, hearing the distant thunder and the grey clouds slowly moving in and next, you had the most atmospheric thunderstorm I've ever seen in a game. If they can capture that in a GTA game ... I might cry.
I guess now is a perfect time to re watch the fat kid crying over GTAV's delay..

ITT we underestimate the power of PS3/360.
Mafia makes for much better storytelling than gangbanging. Take The Godfather vs Boyz in the Hood. Not exactly in the same league. Or Goodfellas vs Menace 2 Society. Or the Sopranos. Or Boardwalk Empire. There's just more depth to explore in organized crime. Note "gangbanging" does not mean "black". You could make an excellent story about black organized crime as well. Maybe American Gangster (haven't seen that yet)?
That said, gangbanging seems to lend itself better to videogames. San Andreas is the best GTA as far as I'm concerned. So although Franklin himself might not be an interesting character, his story might be extremely fun to play.
HOLY FUCK
Hood gone love it for the second trailer song? GOTY every year confirmed
The satire on the radio and in other details within the world is one of the major reasons I enjoy GTA more than other open-world series.People buy GTA to walk around a city causing chaos and have fun. Those people should buy Just Cause 2, Saints Row 3, or Skyrim instead. GTA 5 is probably going to be mostly watching cutscnes, driving to mission markers, and doing controlled, scripted sequences.
You talk about Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, yet conveniently leave out The Wire which is considered by many to be one of the best television shows of all time?
And under your definition, City of God would be a Hood film (and it is), and it stands toe to toe with the best of cinema. And Menace 2 Society, Boyz in the Hood, Fresh, Training Day, Sin Nombre, La Haine, Clockers, etc. are all wonderful Hood films. I honestly don't understand your position. You're suggesting that the Italian Mafia subject matter deserves credence for The Godfather and Goodfellas being GREAT films, and not the fact that two of the best directors of all time happened to direct them?
Interesting
Right, that is all GTA has ever been. Statements like this make me physically ill.

Didn't even think of the different threads we see in the trailer. Multiple outfits in there for all three characters.
Like every GTA game, my guys will be decked out in the dopest expensive suits.
I also wonder if all three will start out with their own safe house. Like the mansion for Michael. Hopefully with some sweet vehicle spawns in his driveway.

As I said, the main characters in The Wire are police officers, not gangbangers. Same for Training Day.
Menace 2 Society and Boyz in the Hood are average movies at best as far as I'm concerned. Very simple stories, very predictable and average acting. I haven't seen the other movies you mentioned, although a Brazilian friend of mine has mentioned City of God. I'll check it out.
Good point about the directors though. That said, the mafia subject matter truly is interesting. A great director can't make a great movie if the subject matter is weak.
Anyway I'll leave it at that. If you think Menace and Boys are wonderful films then we simply have a difference of opinion.
Really hope this game is better than GTAflop.

Which one flopped?

.
Guilty as charged.
If someone told me they thought the Italian mafia was somehow more "sophisticated" and "noble" than gangbangers, I would definitely say that race is playing a role in the assertion, absolutely.
This thread is starting to read like when San Andreas was revealed. Not sure if the racism is less or more overt, though.
