New GTA V Trailers "MICHAEL. FRANKLIN. TREVOR."

1st. The trailers were amazing, though I would never have to be sold on a GTA title. Much like a Justin Timberlake album, it's guaranteed quality. How much I may or may not like it is to be determined.

2nd. I wish I never read past the OP.

People buy GTA to walk around a city causing chaos and have fun. I know when I discuss GTA with my friends we don't mention how great of a parody/satire it is of U.S. life.

Those people should buy Just Cause 2, Saints Row 3, or Skyrim instead. GTA 5 is probably going to be mostly watching cutscnes, driving to mission markers, and doing controlled, scripted sequences.

Crazy is it sounds, it's the bolded I'm really excited about. Weather in RDR made that game shine like no other game. Just standing there, hearing the distant thunder and the grey clouds slowly moving in and next, you had the most atmospheric thunderstorm I've ever seen in a game. If they can capture that in a GTA game ... I might cry.

Absolutely! "A Tempest Looms" took me completely by surprise in Red Dead- the weather, those thunderstorms at McFarlane's ranch, the snow in Tall Trees, the rain in Thieves Landing, desert sun in Diez Coronas, gah!

So perfect- I want even more variety in GTA V.

Well, that's the opposite of what I and a lot of people talk about. We talk about the commercials and radio stations as well.

Not surprising that people here don't like the humor since a lot of gaffers think they have a more "sophisticated" sense of humor than other people. I don't know whey they feel the need to shit up these threads though.

Mafia makes for much better storytelling than gangbanging. Take The Godfather vs Boyz in the Hood. Not exactly in the same league. Or Goodfellas vs Menace 2 Society. Or the Sopranos. Or Boardwalk Empire. There's just more depth to explore in organized crime. Note "gangbanging" does not mean "black". You could make an excellent story about black organized crime as well. Maybe American Gangster (haven't seen that yet)?

That said, gangbanging seems to lend itself better to videogames. San Andreas is the best GTA as far as I'm concerned. So although Franklin himself might not be an interesting character, his story might be extremely fun to play.

American Gangster is great, but have you seen the Wire? Fucking amazing.

The satire on the radio and in other details within the world is one of the major reasons I enjoy GTA more than other open-world series.

I wish people would not try to speak objectively for everyone about subjective things.

Right, that is all GTA has ever been. Statements like this make me physically ill.

You talk about Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, yet conveniently leave out The Wire which is considered by many to be one of the best television shows of all time?

And under your definition, City of God would be a Hood film (and it is), and it stands toe to toe with the best of cinema. And Menace 2 Society, Boyz in the Hood, Fresh, Training Day, Sin Nombre, La Haine, Clockers, etc. are all wonderful Hood films. I honestly don't understand your position. You're suggesting that the Italian Mafia subject matter deserves credence for The Godfather and Goodfellas being GREAT films, and not the fact that two of the best directors of all time happened to direct them?

As I said, the main characters in The Wire are police officers, not gangbangers. Same for Training Day.

Menace 2 Society and Boyz in the Hood are average movies at best as far as I'm concerned. Very simple stories, very predictable and average acting. I haven't seen the other movies you mentioned, although a Brazilian friend of mine has mentioned City of God. I'll check it out.

Good point about the directors though. That said, the mafia subject matter truly is interesting. A great director can't make a great movie if the subject matter is weak.

Anyway I'll leave it at that. If you think Menace and Boys are wonderful films then we simply have a difference of opinion.

Michael seems pretty generic and boring.

Trevor seems interesting, but his story seems cookie cutter. Caught up in the gang game and wanting to get out. He'll probably end up dying when he's about to be out.

Franklin is obviously crazy. Should make for some funny scenes, but I'm not sure I'll be able to sympathize with him much.

Game is looking great, I just hope I'll actually care about the characters. I'm sure Rockstar will deliver.

I wonder why did you even bothered entering the thread, if you're so disgusted by the games.
Seems like a waste of good energy.

Didn't even think of the different threads we see in the trailer. Multiple outfits in there for all three characters.

Like every GTA game, my guys will be decked out in the dopest expensive suits.

I also wonder if all three will start out with their own safe house. Like the mansion for Michael. Hopefully with some sweet vehicle spawns in his driveway.

Aha yes! I'm thinking Michael's place will be the neatest to explore- I hope his family members will be in the house, so we can interact with them / go on typical outings as a respite from all the crazy crime!

Just stop already. GTA: San Andreas is the best GTA game to date and it's about gangbangers. GTA 5 is about San Andreas which is a take on the real Los Angeles, a city that is heavily known for gang activity. I don't know why this is news.

Really? Omar? I feel the opposite as you. Tried to sit through a God Father film, couldn't do it. Doesn't mean the movie was average or filled with poor actors.

This thread is starting to read like when San Andreas was revealed. Not sure if the racism is less or more overt, though.

This is the first time I've ever been interested in a Gta games characters. If the PC version isn't coming out soon, I'll likely just cave and get it on ps3 and buy that version later. This series is to good to pass up.

Same.

Then again I am the type of person who had more fun getting chased by cops in IV and driving around with 5 stars after me ( well mainly 3/4) over pretty much everything in those games simply because to me the driving physics of IV were above and beyond all the activities and features in those games and found it more entertaining doing that than the half assed activities in those games.

yes they have cop chases but it is so fucking terrible, form car physics, how the wanted system works and other issues.

That is disregarding one of the best things about IV, the online.

I thought Franklin's trailer was the least interesting just because it seems exactly like CJ's story from San Andreas. "I thought we were trying to get out of the hood" reminded me of "What's the hood ever done for US" from SA. I'm sure there's more to him and his story but from the trailer he feels like a combo of CJ and Luis from Gay Tony. That said I have the feeling he's gonna have the best gameplay and customization options out of the 3.

Michael gives a BIT of a Tommy Vercetti vibe but he's clearly got a new and interesting story for R*. First time a GTA protag has an immediate family that isn't in the criminal lifestyle. Trevor definitely seems like a playable Phil Cassidy which, fucking yes.

Always find the visual overhyping to be annoying as hell. It's obviously current gen, there is tons of aliasing, blah textures, GTA4-like character models etc. It looks better due to other visual upgrades and changes in art style, but is obviously on current gen rage engine.

I hope there's a lot to do with the money you get this time around. When the main story ends I don't want the game to end with it. I wish they'd bring back old school stuff like rampage missions, hidden packages, and especially CHEATS, most importantly crazy ped cheats to play with the physics.

Guilty as charged.

If someone told me they thought the Italian mafia was somehow more "sophisticated" and "noble" than gangbangers, I would definitely say that race is playing a role in the assertion, absolutely.

Well someone could NOT like black mafia stories.
