Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I dropped the kids off at my aunts house and left the Wii U with them. My uncle asked me what it was, and I told him it was the new Nintendo system. He had a shocked look on his face and ask me how much it cost.

My little cousin interrupts and says, "Do NOT buy me that. I already have a Wii and can't play Halo on it"

Heh.

You will never be able to convince anyone here that Nintendo is not for the kids but anyone with extended family knows little kids love the cool and mature stuff so whatever that thing is be it Playstation or Xbox that is the conversation at school that is the hot topic.

This is why the family image is so bad for Nintendo the only ones that get a Wii / Wii U are those with concerned moms and dads who see Nintendo as the safer way to go. But if you ask a kid the answer changes.

Report back and tell us if playing the Wii U has changed the desire for Halo. Sometimes hands on is the best way to find out.

Like many things Nintendo does, the DDP is great for first party games.

Third party eShop prices need to be more competitive.

not true 3rd Parties have more sales on eShop

Ubisoft had a sales day but I have been waiting for Nintendo Land to get a sale day since day 1 but in is still $60 I do have my disc copy but I really don't get to play it as much so I want a digital copy

It's a very western attitude. If it's not violent/edge/realistic, it's for kids. Hell, I've seen one person comment that if it has deep colours, it's for kids.

This sort of thing needs to be rectified

Third party eShop prices need to be more competitive *with brick and mortar stores.

Nintendo's first party games rarely drop in price. I can get Injustice for $35 at Toys R Us, or $60 on the eShop.

Some games do. Take for an example Steel Diver and Pilotwings on 3DS eShop. Still full price on eShop and I can assure you that is not the case on retail side.

Unfortunately, the only way for anyone to lower price on eShop, XBox Live Marketplace and PSN's Shop is to lower the RRP/MSRP, outside of sales, else retailers will whine

I'd be happy with sales on the full priced games, like when Ubisoft did that 30% off sale.

The retail stores would get really pissed if they did not have the best deals in town

you have to think of it as what iTunes did to music shops selling CDs it is a change but Apple wanted to give value. Gaming Companies do not really care about value they don't want a $60 game to drop. I think of it this way if a $60 game is selling at Toy R Us new for $35 those developers are still making the same dollar value. You could say the true price for all these games are somewhere closer to that discounted brick store price and those $60 are just really greedy bonuses us fans pay them on day 1. At least you can sell, trade, and rent those things.

But Digital gets to play the full price or lump it.

hope it changes hope we start seeing DDP like things more often with greater discounts

I'd be happy with sales on the full priced games, like when Ubisoft did that 30% off sale.

doing this during the weeks of the backlash they got for Rayman makes it hard for me to give Ubi bonus point for that

it was even sadder for me all the discounted games on eShop at that time I already owned I did not want Just Dance 4 so it did not matter

Nintendo of Canada sent me an email saying Super Metroid is available on Wii U now. It is May after all. But I just went the eshop and it isn't there :(

C.S. Lewis said:
"Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up..."

C.S. Lewis could have been talking about Nintendo, their consoles and games over there, and one might have been forgiven for thinking that. Every member of the gaming community should have that quote framed on a wall in their houses.

Very well said. It is very fitting of Nintendo, and their franchises such as Pokémon. This comic exemplifies it well

I'm considering buying a Lan adapter for my WiiU... hopefully it will increase my connection speed (although i believe it has more to do with the fact that i'm in Brasil). Anyone with experience using one? Did it improve connection speed/stability? What models should i go for?

All I've heard is that the LAN adapter is slower than Wi-fi.

I know its a little off topic, but is anyone else watching Radio Hyrule's Twilight Symphony music video?

Its basically a playthrough and cutscenes of the game with reorchestrated music, not sure how to describe it really. People should check it out though.

Radiohyrule.com and it works on the Wii U also

Question: Is there some reason why the Friends List and Miiverse are separate? It seems they should naturally go together, but the fact that they're fractured - and that the Friends List is buried in a Home button press - is just... awkward.

Played yesterday night up to 5 am. Started with mario world, moved on to Rayman legends challenges ( which sticked up a good 2 hrs.) And ended up playing another 2 hrs. Of lego city.

Come end of the year in going to be seriously sleep depraved.

I'm having trouble with miiverse. In games I hit home then miiverse and new post but the add screenshot button is never there. Any help? I wanna post pics

Which games are you playing? Some of them have it disabled, unfortunately, like MonHun.

I think he's talking about the one that goes into the battery compartment on the back of the gamepad that extends the battery life something like 3x despite not changing the form factor at all. The reason for this is that Nintendo put a battery FAR smaller than the compartment space allowed for in the gamepad. The Nyko battery fills the full space.

Ah yea the internal one by Nyko. I mentioned it some time ago. Wasn't there a leaked list of possible official games / accessories that mentioned a battery pack by Nintendo as well?

I just picked up Mario from a rather shady Amazon seller. The seller listed it as new but it was obviously used. Having a blast with it though and the Club Nintendo code was unused.

All of the miis in my wara wara plaza that should be under the challenge app are all scattered around the screen. Is this happening to others?

Ah ok, yeah I think I remember the outlets previewing that one. If the one I linked to was in the stores I'd probably pick that one up in the interim personally, that stock battery life is shameful.

Anyone in Canada (preferably BC) want to trade a physical copy of Nintendo Land for their redeemable download version?
I don't want a single disc for this generation.
Heck, if GC and Wii games went on eShop, I'd sell the whole lot of them!

So I finally got my Wii U. I just haven't been able to connect it to the internet yet. I followed Zamkato's solution from this thread and still no luck http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=502326 But at least it's finally connecting to the network device now.

Tried Solution 2 and it still wouldn't let me connect to the internet. Gonna try Solution 3 later today, but I was wondering if there's a more recent link on how to connect it to the internet. On the latest firmware update, is all this hassle gone?

Edit: Got it working with solution 3. Gonna try to see if normal wifi works after the updates.

Picked up a deluxe unit from Amazon warehouse deals for $240 plus some credit.

Unfortunately my copy of New Super Mario Bros. U won't be here until Monday.

Any advice on wii games to pick up? Sibling had a wii but never purchased anything for it.

No Wii U titles besides Mario really seem to interest me. Zombie U looks slightly intriguing, but heard mixed things.

There is a demo for zombi U anyway. Start with that.

Regarding Wii titles I'll add zack & Wiki (it is an excellent game, overlook the kiddy artstyle) and a few others I can't remember right now

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, but does the Wii backwards compatibility look noticeably worse than stuff running on an actual Wii? I wanted to play some Wii games earlier and used the Wii Channel for the first time since I got my Wii U, but the thing looks awful; far worse running through 1080p HDMI than my original Wii using Component. It almost looks like it's a lower quality image or something, much more blurry. It's hard to describe. Is this just me?

So my Wii U's all updated and everything, solution 3 from that thread really helped. After the update, I was able to hook up my internet in a normal way. Been playing some Kirby's Adventure and it was pretty fun on the gamepad. For some odd reason, I felt that there was more slowdown than usual, but my mind could be playing tricks. Also think there was some very very slight lag too, but maybe I just got worse at Kirby.

I'm liking the system though. Really looking forward to when Pikmin 3 finally releases.

my wii u has been the greatest thing ever invented for watching netflix / youtube in bed

the browser is suprisingly good, and i didnt have a tablet, so yay nintendo!!!!!!

Yeah. Good ones too. Super Mario 64 and Super Metroid are current rewards. They expire today. Tempted, but just want Wii U versions.

In Europe we're mostly stuck with shitty stickers or useless things like that.

I miss the GC era. I got a Baten Kaitos artbook via Club Nintendo. That was godly.
