This thread is more angry than I expected. Saw an ad for this late last night and it was pretty good. They get me with that good ol boy setup.

Not a day 1 for me, but I'm paying attention at least.

Can someone translate this?

Quick translation :
Best game ever.
-He just finished the game : Great adult scenario without compromise , showing the harsh truth.
-He got attached to the characters and had some intense and painful moments .
-The story is captivating
-Guts stirring , exciting and intense game.
-Maybe the best game he ever played in his 17 career of gaming journalist

This is going to be so fucking good. I decided at the last minute to switch to the CE but it looks like Amazon is out. Was only really interested in the art book anyway...

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

On my way home to play The Last of Us but my excitement have hampered because a stupid teenager came up to my face and talked shit to me in the train while I already have anxiety but fuck it I'm gonna slaughter some Clickers soon!

Seeing all these reviews for this game makes me think I can't just walk in the store and buy it when it comes out now. Even my friend bought a PS3 for this when he saw it at E3, if he's even heard of it (the dude doesn't even play videogames that much) I know it's not gonna have copies left over.

Guess I gotta go and reserve it now before I end up having to wait way long after release day to play it.

I wonder if someone will bother compiling a list of people who are hawking for the game to fail so they can watch people get disappointed.

I don't want the game to fail, I want to be entertained by people embarrassing themselves over 8/10 scores.

Or, you know, you could go to amazon.com right now and order it.

Why don't you buy it via the online store? it's supposed to be released on the same day.

I dont think youll have trouble finding it dude. This isnt some niche title that stores are only getting three or four copies of.

Damn, no stopping this hype train now! Be still my beating heart.

These threads are always entertaining. The game in question could be the best or worst game ever made and many of the posts on either side would still be embarrassing. Using GAF as an example, you would think having a measured response to an entertainment product is as difficult as quantum physics.

That said, I hope this game turns out well. I've been surprised by the PS3 this generation, considering that paying £425 for the thing should have almost guaranteed that I would regret the purchase.

OK I'm confident enough. Pre-ordered. Hope I don't regret this! This will be the last game I play on the PS3!

Open (love) letter to C. Balestra :

http://www.gamalive.com/actus/16887-the-last-of-us-lettre-ouverte-naughty-dog.htm

in french. Nothing but praise. Guy loved it. He says it will punch you in the guts

Very rough translation :

Dear M. Balestra...

Oh and after all, we are in a young and dynamic industry. There is no place for fancy protocol and long presentation ceremony. Here, we call ourselves by our first name, we tap in each other’s back and drink beer together.
So, even if we one day reach a respectable age (only if age can ever be) because, if I recall correctly, born the same year, working in the same industry for the same time but are both from different side of the mirror, please let me use a more direct tone for the occasion.
Furthermore, we meet several times. I even had the pleasure to interview you, for my present site, GamAlive.

Anyway.

Dear Christophe,

I present myself today to take the feather (its an expression, I actually just grab my keyboard) to thanks you for The Last of Us. You, and all your team at Naughty Dog.

I just beat the game. Wah. What an emotional choc. What a beautiful, incredible, beyond understanding slap.
Thank you. Thank you a thousand times for this amazing experience. Thank you for this amazing adventure.
The Last of Us is one of these game for adults, too rare, that gaming needs. Thank you for intelligent scenario, really worked out, that does not spare any reallity to the players. We are a thousand miles away from Hollywood good moral where we deliberatly stay silent on basic logic or avoid all the dirty questions the audience have on the tips of their lips.
Here, everything is shown. The player gets his face smashed by an horrible reality that is nothing short but true and basic in it’s more horryfing form and it will take you to tears, beyong moral, beyong acceptance.

The Last of Us is a great game. What am I saying, a giant game that deserves to stay in memories thanks to his perfectly mastered treatement all along. My god what a slap !

The story plays with our feeling in a esquishing way. You will care for the characters as they care after each others so their sacrifices and challenges are then more intense and painfull to us.
Pushed by solid graphics, this story is that captivating, the game is that good that it will push back every littles concerns we could have to the «it’s not important» box (you can read about it in our test that will be online tomorow). A true great game, really.

The Last of Us is one of this game that will move your guts, will make you feel passionante and move you. A monument. A pure and intense moment of bliss.

Thank you. Thank you a thousand times for this unique experience.

During my already long career as a game journalist (already 17 years) it’s the first time I’m writting such a thing as an open letter. But it is deserved : The Last of US is without a doubt the best game I ever played. If not the best. That’s it. Just Amazing.

And who cares if this entire letter can look fishy. I know that today, criticizing is a way for many to feel alive online. And too often we tend to not got over enthousiatic, we do not congratulate. To keep an editorial line because many believe that doing so, praising in public or congratulating something, is selling ourself. I do not believe that. I think that if we are harsh towards failures, we should be equaly praising masterpieces. This is why I let my self take off my hat and bend over for this one master’s work.

Thank you for daring. Thank you for not censoring anything. Thank you for going this far to make this project written in history as one of the best game ever.

Friendly,

Cedric Gasperini

Should be an interesting thread indeed. From all sides...

Can't wait for the first 8/10.

Waits for the inevitable shitstorm over a 'nonsensical' review. Maybe even an 'outrageous' one too. ;)

The 10/10 are obvious and boring.
Can't wait for the first 5/10 - 8/10

Curious to see which publication will give this a score that isn't considered good enough, getting a bunch of people really angry.

Tears will fall as many will try and break down a review that give TLoU between a 6-8 attempting to prove how silly their points are...

Can't wait for the first 8/10 review so people start to flip their shit. Don't disappoint me, Uncharted fanbase.

Watching this thread and hoping for fanboy meltdowns.

Dont let me down SonyGAF!

I'm getting that Uncharted 3 feeling in here. The tears will be glorious, the self-satisfaction intolerable.

I love how the mere thought of a negative review can drive people into a frenzy.

Cringeworthy comment right there. Thread is gearing up to become just as embarrassing as the UC3 thread.

I actually want this game to get a bad review just to see the reactions, this thread certainly has potential to top the UC3 one.

But yea, the above is as antagonistic and petty as the reactions to the lower scores themselves. Lets just keep it cool.

Or, you know, you could go to amazon.com right now and order it.

I know I may sound crazy here but... I've never ordered from Amazon before. All my games I go to GS and buy since I'm literally within a few mins of walking distance.

I dont think youll have trouble finding it dude. This isnt some niche title that stores are only getting three or four copies of.

True, but you never know. With all the ads I'm seeing on TV and on random sites for this game, I wouldn't be surprised if tons of people pick this up.

..until it's the 5th in Australia?

I think the embargo applies to a different timezone. :p And it doesn't lift at midnight anyway.

Wednesday 5th June, 15:00 (BST) / 16:00 (CEST) / 00:00 (AEST)

And we're not supposed to post any impression on social medias, forums, etc. They also gave a list of stuff that's considered spoilers which should not be included in the review.

lmao. This is exactly what I was saying yesterday, the biggest embarassments over TLoU reviews are going to be from the "Meltdowns plz" clown show posse rather than butthurt fanboys... I'd bet money on it.

According to Kevin Dent the 13 review scores (the lowest score was 9.3) he heard included IGN and Gamespot. Going by Gamespot's review scale it means they at least gave the game a 9.5
