If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
No one is allowed to talk about the beginning or anything after the halfway point. We can more or less only talk about the stuff you have seen in the trailers and nothing else. We can't even discuss some of the easter eggs and main character motivations.

Wow really? this is good, thanks!

Nice one!

Nah. Right now the ND staff are all hunched over their monitors, scouring this thread and cringing at all the posts that express outrage toward Polygon's 7.5. That's what they're doing right now.

If anything, they're probably more pissed at the 7.5 than some of the zealots here.

The games media conditioned them that they're games are above criticism.

People wonder why Polygon's review matters...it matters because they're still considered a viable "opinion" by outsiders. Analysts & stock holders will see that and say, "Naughty Dog didn't completely hit this one out of the park". Also, with Polygon's shitty review system here are just a few games that had a better score than Last of Us.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Remember Me
Night of the Rabbit
Metro: Last Light
SimCity (2013) - original review
Gears of War Judgement
Dead Space 3
Black Ops 2
WWE '13

Some of those games are good, some bad, but I guarantee that none of them are as good as The Last of Us.

In conclusion, to Polygon:

Ugh..

Now I can't care any less about review scores BUT with that 7.5 amidst the higher scores, is there an ulterior motives here? I see people claiming being sponsored by MS/Xbox so is there reason to call bullshit? I mean, can't Naughty Dog investigate, are there laws being broke or is this standard practice?

Like I said, I don't care. I'm all over it. But the claims here make me think something more "dirty" is at play.

I really hope this is a joke post.

The more people bitch and try to dig shady stuff to explain and discredit lower scores, the bigger the backlash.

If you actually bother to read any of these reviews rather than just looking at the scores(which is something of a pipe dream) you'll see that the issues raised in the polygon review are also raised in in reviews that delivered perfect scores.

So the obvious conclusion to draw is that polygon was paid off by M$ to rate $ony first party games lower than average.

Not that most reviewers are giving the game a perfect score despite its flaws and that those very same flaws very negatively impacted the experience of a few other reviewers.

That would make too much sense.

I have never seen so many 10s.

Oh, Polygon, never change. I like how the link to their review isn't included in the OP. They don't deserve those hits.

I just watched Adam Sessler's video review. Excellent review. You guys need to watch it (or just listen to it if you want to avoid spoilers).

Be that as it may, such strong opinion from those who haven't played the game == reasonable in your estimation?

What do they care if one or two reviewers like the game less than they're "allowed to"?

The review sticks out, and (IMO) didn't seem justified by the complaints. If it was someone actually not liking the game, fair enough. 7.5 seems like just the right score to try and stir some shit, get publicity, and be able to go 'Well, we're not saying it's terrible'.

But it's only a game. I'm sure most of the comments are in jest, really.

Reviews are as much consumer advice as they are an opinion.

In this industry, reviews didn't start as an audience clamouring for a deep understanding of one critics views. They came from the requirement of insight as to whether a game is worth money to you, becuase games cost a fucking lot.

You've got a fair idea, that if your score is far out of line with the rest of the industry, your opinion on the game is possibly not fair as consumer advice.

I am saying, it's not as fucking clear cut as "it's an opinion".

Absolutely not. Can´t agree with you one bit. Sorry.

Where is this coming from? Is it an editorial policy, or is this from Sony/ND? Can you say your site/mag?

A New Game Plus option allows you to keep upgrading Joel's skills and weapons where you left off, but ties you to the difficulty you finished on - odd, since difficulty can be adjusted on the fly in your first play-through.

That actually...kinda sucks.

Or you could say that all the reviewers who scored it a perfect 10 was paid off by $ony, because they didn't deduce points even though they highlighted the same flaws.

Polygon has been lambasted and discredited on GAF LONG before this review. I've said as much many times over the last few months. Not sure why FACE quoted me regarding this Last of Us Review when it's been an opinion I've held for a long time now.

They were heavily funded by Microsoft, have span or promoted many of Microsoft's and EA's lies, given false information about specs etc, have Agies, often act as Microsoft/EA PR, give out crazy scores to broken oft unplayable games and more. Polygon to me comes off as a corporate shill site, and that's not even beginning to consider the LoU review, which doesn't even come in to it. In the grand scheme of things, this review is unimportant.

The funny thing is if Polygon fell in line, no one would be complaining. It would just be another 10/10 from a game journo.

Last of Us could definitely be a 3/5 game or whatever but that quoted bit from the Polygon review? Man, talk about awful.

7.5 is not a score someone would give a game they think is bad or otherwise didn't like. "Terrible" especially.

This took more time than I thought it would, I kinda regret it.

Disclaimer: As of the time of writing these posters had not played the game
and datdude might have been trolling.

I don't think calling a journalist out for obvious bias and/or ineptitude is a bad thing.

Polygon's staff has pushed a slanted (likely bought) agenda since their inception (that's what happens when you start up thanks to a first party studio in the industry you "report" on). They gave Diablo 3 a 10 and went to bat for it from day one like they were paid PR. Now all of a sudden they and Gamespot are the lone dissenting opinions on The Last of Us.

Seeing the "news" outlets of the industry once again display their complete lack of integrity SHOULD inspire outrage. If you can't review a game with objectivity based on what you think the overall public's appreciation of the game will be you're doing it wrong.

Kollar's major gripes are that the game was depressing with graphic violence. Seriously. How can you take a review of a post-apoc action game seriously that makes mention of those as negative aspects?

Its the half assed "well, I can always claim it' just my opinion" nature of "journalists" in the games industry.

Poly's review would be understandable if they did not rate far worse games higher.

did you actually read the review, he was basically saying the small things were so game ruining because the overall quality of the game was so good, so you can assume from that if the over quality was worse he would have scored it higher because the small nit picks wouldn't stand out as much.......take from that what you will

cool that game got good scores.

But digging pass the hyperbole, games seems relatively standard but executioned well with some AI issues and mixed opinions on combat.

hope it turns out ok. Didn't think bioshock lived up to all the hyper/reviews. Was fun, but not the next moses.

Gonna go in with low expectations for this (and almost blind. only read a few reviews and seen no previews/gameplay yet), so hopefully that makes me enjoy this more!

If Polygon were on the take, this would be a little too extreme. True trolling is just slightly low balling every Sony game so you never draw so much attention.
