Sounds plausible, can we arrange for someone to make this happen? Get a link and we can PM a mod and have it put in the OT. GAF rules apply, so no "lol call of doody ms sucks the big 1" spam, discussion only on E3 announcements etc

I'm certainly game for this, of course we need consensus.

I can make it, Just give me a sec.

Edit: Should I make it public or private (private requires an invite/approval)

eh, not sure if I want to use Karak's channel again, it was basically all spam and unrestrained anti-Microsoft vitriol at the reveal. A lot of the people on it were GAF lurkers too.

If we could get something like Google Hangouts and limit it to those in here I'd be more interested. I just want to chat about the game announcements, not read walls of "Microsoft sux, always online zzzzz" etc

I can get behind this. I don't have Steam on current laptop tho, so if whatever is used, could be more accommodating to those who don't have steam, that'd be great.

So installing the full game to the Xbox One's hard drive won't decrease loading times? Putting you're whole library on it and being able to switch games without switching discs isn't more convenient?
Having the games accessible to you on any console isn't a plus?

I'm not saying these things outweigh the negatives, though I do believe many are blowing it out of proportion. You still will be able to sell your games and buy used. You still can sell or give the game to your friend. The only thing we don't know yet is the ability to rent or lend as they have not given us a clear answer. Just that they are working on it with their partners. Let's wait and see what happens.

What does that have to do with anything? Why are any of these new policies necessary for that to happen? It already exists on the PS3/360 via digital downloads. Microsoft is just working it slightly different here , but there's no reason why that has to mean checks every 24 hours, no private selling or buying, being permitted to trade retail DISC copies of games at selected retailers only and so on.

First thing's first, can it be accessed on the Steam website, ie, without having Steam installed?

I'd be inclined to say private if we can get enough of a response here from regular posters, but first we need to make sure everyone can access it.

We're going with google hangouts? No real harm in leaving it public if you only share the link details, etc with people via PM. I guess invite only is cool too if there's a real concern about people finding it and only posting non stop garbage/antagonising BS throughout the conference.

nobody is saying cboat is lying it's just that he never said there was a downclock only yield issues... hell the size of that thing you could have asked 100 people and 30 would have said probably yield issues.

it's just that people have mistakenly assumed that there is a downclock based on him saying there were yield issues... not lying , people jumping to the conclusion that they want to be true before there are facts

and let's be honest, the level of technical discussion can be pretty good here but that's limited to about 100 posters,
the majority of the other 12,900 posting at high times have no f-ing clue what people are talking about and just to know the easiest derivative to parrot in all the other threads and to tell their friends

as for the cloud stuff.. I guess we will all see in time won't we, what's what.
GPUs with bigger die sizes and bigger transistor budgets dont seem to have similar "yield" issues. And they are running at higher clocks as well.

Besides, the full story is that thuway broke the news which included the downclock bit, it was verified by a few others and then there are a few like Gopher and Cboat who have confirmed the issues but not the downclock bit. It doesnt mean there is no downclock either, unless Microsoft has decided on a final clock either Cboat or Gopher cant say its getting downclock. The downclock bit is just a possibility out of the poor yield issue. If it does indeed get a downclock, what will be the retort? Well Microsoft never revealed clocks in the first place ;) Then it'll all be about graphics dont matter or cloud or something else.

The outroar or disappointment is basically due to the possibility of a weaker machine getting even weaker.

MS obviously wanted to go pure digital download but probably a combination of retailers and bandwidth limits held them back. We all know we are headed towards a digital download future, but being the first one to do it is doing to cause waves (Steam was HATED when it started). What we are left with is XB1 being an awkward half-step towards download only where physical disks still exist but are basically useless.

Alright, I just did a test on the website with steam closed. The chatroom requires that you have it installed, although you can post in the discussion forums from the site.

I've never used google hangouts before, how is it?

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you.

They should have just left retail game ownership as it is, and offered the new options to digital downloads only. But obviously there was a bigger financial motivation at play which is why it's happening the way it is. This is just the first step to a bigger, and likely even less consumer friendly plan imo, and as you said, a digital download future, only without the regular digital download reduced pricing.

Churn outs galore, higher prices, less consumer rights and trade in options, micro transactions to hell and back, subscriptions and paywalls galore... God it's depressing.

Something accessible to everyone but is preferably invite only to avoid the incessant bullshit that makes it simply impossible to just talk about games. This is what we need.

I'm at work, but will investigate Google hangouts later if no one else steps up in the interim.

I know these threads are usually more about hype than anything... but God Damn, I don't think I have ever had this much deflated hype for an E3 conference before. Normally, the reveal of a console should be a wonderful thing to get excited for, but all the bad news about Microsoft's DRM and used game policies have ruined it for me. I'll probably tune in anyways, but I don't think anything Microsoft can announce will make me smile now :(

I'll wait before pulling the trigger then. Worst comes to worst, we can find a random IRC, create a channel and throw a password on it. Good thing is that we have until Sunday to figure this out so we can take it slow and find something that works for everyone.

Killer Instinct 2
Mirror's Edge 2
Fallout 4 year of exclusivity

Would that water your melons a bit?

Sounds good. If anyone else has any experience with this, feel free to chime in, we need consensus though and with people asleep/taking a break from GAF/banned, it's difficult to get.

You just know Microsoft got the policy stuff out of the way so it doesn't hang over the conference. In three days the games will speak for themselves.

Whatever gets set up would need to take into account the people who can't be on GAF due to banning. IRC would be an option with set OPs and maybe a flood filter or voice trusted users and set it to mute non voiced users...thus if anyone gets nasty just devoice them.

Speaking of banned, I've been speaking with FordGT, he's banned till the 20th, had something to do with a meme.

It definitely would be the more powerful thing to use. Hard part would be finding an IRC that works.

If this were back at the start of this current gen I'd help with setting one up but I no longer have the connections I used to. That and I'm extremely rusty and unsure what changes have been made to irc in the 8 years since i last helped run a channel for the older E3's.

I'm still holding out hope for a Jade Empire sequel, exclusive to xbox 1.

That and a litany of other games...

PGR
l4d3
new Phantasy Star
Infinite Undiscovery sequel

Can I get a first class ticket.

I'll tell you when I give a shit about any of this crap. All I care about is Halo 5, and some other major titles with good online. Never buy used games. I've been wanting digital only, that's basically what this is.

I totally understand how fucked some people are, and I think Microsoft is making a HUGE mistake.

Just not one that is going to bother me so long as I can still get certain games.

At this point though, there's basically nothing the Xbone could show me that'd make me want to put up with its bullshit. And MS's expectation of "THEY'RE GAMERS; THEY'LL BUY EVERY SYSTEM" is super fucking insulting.

That's great, but projecting your feelings on others is slightly insulting as well, you know. Yes, we're excited, it's a shame that you're not, but there's literally a bazillion of other threads in which you can participate in the E3 festivities. Have fun.

It's basically a Steam console with an additional, and not really transparent why, online check and no offline mode. Also probably without big sales and a fee.
Not that I am entirely happy, but I am not entirely happy with Steam as well.

You can punch me up there.

Hmm...Why not?
Gotcha

Anyone else?

Good morning fellow train passengers. I've read through the pages that were filled during my sleep and here are some of the things I want to address.

I have a problem with it [Caboose note: 24h requirement]. What's the benefit to me? If they show me games I have to have, I'll buy it, but I won't like some of these policies that are clearly not meant to serve me better.

The benefit to you is that you will, after tying the game to your account, never ever have to insert the disc into your console again. I do think that they should let you play games offline indefinitely with the disc in the console though. 24h requirement is not going to affect me, I haven't lost my internet connection for more than 1 hour total for the past ~10 years.

So does anyone else think my idea is plausible? If it only needs to check in every 24 hours, you can go to a friend's house, log in with your account, install the game and go offline. He can keep playing the game for the next 24 hours while you go home and play it as well. If he wants to play it again later you just need to log in at his location and log out again. I don't see how they can prevent that.

The 24h requirement is for the first console you play a game on, if you play it on your friends Xbox FIRST then yes this could probably work. If you do play it on your console first it's not going to be available for 24h on his console, just 1h. See below.
With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library.

I for one embrace a digital only future, I never want another disc for a PC game and I could do well without any Xbox One discs. The pricing is what will settle whether I buy any one game on disc or directly from Live. After I have tied the game to my account there will be absolutely no difference between the two except that I can use the disc to 'download' the game to my hard drive faster than over the internet. So yeah the discs are basically dumb installation devices now.

With that out of the way, here's what you all (no one) has been waiting for!

Can I refund my train ticket.

I just read the new info about xbox in that other thread.

I wanna make sure it can even make it's maiden voyage before I take a seat.

Does anyone else chuckle at the mental image of gaffers going around their towns putting up posters proclaiming the crimes against humanity the Xbox One is going to commit.

Have you lobbied your local member of parliament/assemblyman/blue peter badge winner about the atrocities the Xbox one is planning to commit?

So incredibly embarrassing, the whole damn thing. It's such a grounding experience to check other places like GB and realise it's not just me bemused by the overreactions here.

Stage demo or bust. I don't want just another trailer, I want to see this bad boy in action. I have a feeling it could be big, but I need to see how they've worked the episodes into the actual gameplay.

I think there'll be a stage demo of Quantum Break for sure. The cuts between game and TV looked jarring at the reveal but obviously weren't representative of actual cohesion between the two.

Hope so. I really like the idea of fusing both live action and gameplay, has great potential and I'm 100% confident in Remedy's ability to pull it off.

The majority of these threads that have been popping up over the past few days/weeks/months are laugh-out loud funny, but also at the same time very depressing. I'm on the verge of asking for a permaban, I don't want to be considered a part of this community anymore (not just GAF, but "core gamers" in general). A man chooses and all that crap... I'm really becoming too old for this shit.

Living in a generation in which people freak out when they are not connected with their smartphones for even so much as 5 minutes, these reactions are mostly exaggerated.
