Some thoughts on the various footage...
Wii U version
- Parkour system looks swell, pinging off walls, running up trees, hopefully this can be used creatively to create more elaborate shortcuts and such outside of the whole alternative route approach..
- Doube Jump sighted, alongside the wisps and the slower speed compared to say Generations this comes across more like a Colours follow up.
- Not sure how sold I am on the Gamepad integration, seems a bit fiddly.
- They weren't kidding when talking about varied stage themes no matter the Zone, I don't see any desert in either desert stage, they did say deserts and not desserts right, confused further by the 3DS version which is definitely Desert.
- All 3 stages shown are quite a bit different in execution, hopefully the lack of a singular focus doesn't mean that some types will be noticeably less fun to play than others.
- That shortcut in the sweet stage wasn't even hinted at by like one ring down the pit to indicate that throwing yourself down might herald a reward, this is some DKC1 shit and not superior secret placing DKC2, bad move.
- Not sure I like the idea of nabbing flickies from defeated enemies and such as they may be a bit of a pace breaker, red rings i'm always good for though.
- It looks fun but I can't help but feel like it's lacking that little extra something at the moment, still it's early stages being seen here, odds are Generations elaborate set pieces have spoilt me a bit. The actual Platforming should be up to snuff though and there's numerous alt routes shown and that matters more than the flash, I just hope they pull out some crazy platforming pieces later on.
3DS Version
- It appears to be more straightforward and less mind bending than the Wii U version, this could actually prove beneficial in a way and be better for straigth up 2D and 3D platforming but we shall see.
- Running Shoes jingle is a portion from the Sonic Heroes theme? that's an interesting choice
- The Desert stage has a more puzzle like approach, a lot slower as well, not feeling this one but hey at least this desert act is actually somewhat desert themed. Though it does use some snappy walljumping stuff later on.
- Flickies used to open certain pods in the stages.
- New wisp that breaks apart enemies and certain objects to form a ring of blocky debris that keeps getting bigger when more comes into contact with it? So it's like a different take on Frenzy maybe.
- If you want to take a closer listen to the music then these are the videos to watch, there's a pretty jazzy feel going on in the two tracks heard, sounds promising.
- Overall the 3DS version looks a lot better than I expected, we can only go up from Generations 3DS.
I think both look pretty fun, 3DS version has surprised me, hoping to see a bit more from the Wii U version.
