A Tour of Sonic Lost World - IGN

Some minor nitpicks: I don't like the new jump sound effect or the end of level jingle.

Can't wait to see more of the game. In the 3DS version Sonic has a projectile kick attack and elemental shields.

Nah, I think most Nintendo franchises are ass now.

Colours and generations > galaxy games

I...bwahahahahahahaha

This game is Sonic Galaxy

Cool - the article talks about trading stuff in Miiverse, and doing things beyond the usual... actual game mechanics in Miiverse...

Tempted to buy...

Wait a second, why is Desert Ruins made of god damned candy in the WiiU version, whilst it's in a temple (presumably in a, I dunno, desert) in the 3DS ...

oh, wait a second. Desert. Ha, very well done.

It's amazing how good these games look. The 3DS one, especially. It's 2013 and I now care about Sonic again. Weird.

3DS Version
- New wisp that breaks apart enemies and certain objects to form a ring of blocky debris that keeps getting bigger when more comes into contact with it? So it's like a different take on Frenzy maybe.

I was thinking a slightly different take on that DS exclusive wisp Void, except it creates its own gravitational pull. Either way, very interesting.

Yeah I agree. I'm surprised they would change it like this.

Compare the gameplay sections of the trailer with the demo gameplay and you'll notice the demo gameplay looks blurry for some reason.

As for 3DS vs Wii U. The 3DS' 3D gameplay looks a bit weird. The jumps/physics look a bit odd and the level design didn't look good compared to the Wii U version.

Oh yeah, I forget about that one.
In a way it's like a mix of the two, hopefully it wont be as iffy to control as the either, especially the slippery void.

Excited to play this next week. The Wii U version did look blurry in the footage, so I want to see it in person to see if it was just the fault of the capturing station, or if the game really looks like that.

Either way, the gameplay looks quite refreshing for a Sonic game, and it really seems like they have taken care to try to address a lot of points of contention people have had with Sonic games in the last decade or so. Sad that we already saw all three levels that will be on display, but it will certainly be nice to play through them myself to see how fluid everything really is.

So I'm guessing people who don't like this game are new sonic fans as opposed to old school genesis sonic fans? I, for one welcome the focus on platforming mechanics instead of the got to go fast press forward to win mechanics

This looks to be the best sonic game since the genesis sonic games. Care to elaborate on your post?

It looks like a total step backwards to me. I consider Unleashed Day levels to be the best sonic has ever been with generations a close second.

I find this game to be a total "make sonic like mario" retreat to appease Sonic retro types. The Megadrive games are amazingly overrated.

Before you ask, yes I did grow up with them too. I just find Boost sonic far more fun than ball physics.

the gameplay... looks like an upgrade from Unleashed

not in my eyes.

Uuuhh I would be shocked at how amazing it looks, at the time we never had seen such 3D graphics before.

p.s I can't tell if your being positive or negative lol.

Sorry, I meant I would kill myself because waiting 20 years to play it would be unbearable. Game looks awesome.

Never been much into Sonic, but this game looks fucking brilliant and it's the first game that actually makes me seriously consider buying a WiiU.

I saw that but... hmm... well, whatever. It looks like it actually carries natural momentum unlike Sonic Colors' double jump. Notice how he uncurls.

It looked more like a "failed" homing attack to me, tbh, because of the uncurling.

That's just like your opinion man

and it's wrong so very wrong

Some things (like the parkour system) seem like a good upgrade, but it's true that Sonic seems really nerfed in this game. Even the "hold both shoulder buttons for max speed" mode looked really slow.

I would assume this is 60fps, which is why the graphics aren't quite as technically impressive.

I doubt it. My guess is that instead of using the Hedgehog Engine, they simply ported the Sonic Colors/Black Knight/Secret Rings Wii engine to Wii U (perhaps to facilitate the 3DS version).

I checked back and for some reason the Wii U camera doesn't follow Sonic while doing a lock on jump, but the 3DS version does.

Maybe Dimps didn't have ready this "feature"? 3DS one looks better for it at least.

That looked a lot better then I expected. The WiiU version looks to to be Galaxy/Colors/Generations all mixed together which is fine by me, and the variety in levels with all the crazy stuff going on looked pretty darn awesome. Though I am a bit worried about controls/camera along with the pop-in, but this is officially on my radar now.

3DS version is a looker but the Desert Ruins Zone 2 screamed DiMPS developed.

Who think generation has better graphics also?

Yeah, it's not even a contest. I looks okay for a 3DS game (despite some obvious technical drawbacks here and there), but pretty lame for an HD console that's supposed to be powerful enough to run Generations' PC version.

The Wii U version looks great, but the 3DS version looked a bit janky. Those shots of Sonic flying through the air (which I assume are meant to mask the loading) look really weird and the 2D sections are zoomed in too much. Plus it doesn't look like there are many alternate paths.

Amazing. So glad the 3DS version looks great as well.

I'm also glad that they seem to be abandoning the human/urban worlds, like in Colors.

Well, I'm no Sonic fan and I'm suddenly interested in this because it looks more like a platformer. So I guess it's working :P

I sorta feel like the 3DS version looks a little more... cohesive?

The WiiU one seems to have like a loooooooooot of autoplay boosters and shit, and also did anyone catch the 1000% pure jank of the Laser Wisp power in the WiiU version? That definitely looks to be like our GAF insider said as troubling shit.

When the Honey Comb level kicked in, I felt like that was overstepping the SONIC GALAXY line a little too disgustingly.
