Forza 5: Behind the scenes look (video) [Up: 1080p/60fps]

Just watched it. Very good, Dan is great at these.

200-300 'canon' cars mentioned as 'must-haves' in racing games, plus open wheelers (hints at roster number?)

Wait did he really mention 300 cars ?

What the hell, all of the 700 cars in FM4+FH already had a 500k poly model with fully modeled interiors, absolutely READY for next gen.

Did they really halve the number to allow me to open the damn doors ?
Because i sure don't expect to be able to open the trunk and see the engine modeled in Forzavista accuracy for 300 + cars, i don't expect to and that would be a (cool, admittedly) waste of resources.
The game better feature 50 unique tracks if that's the case :P

Porsche apparently confirmed out with no plans to add them according to fm.net forums.

Anyone got a more solid source?

Mascot forgot this part, 25 minutes in

I'll patch it in

I wonder if every car model made before Forza 3 has been given the boot then? You cannot showcase that tat under any lighting solution and paint shader.

That would be bonkers but T10 are on a roll here so who knows.

Year Zero jobbie, GT3 did it too didn't it?

So..

No night
No weather
300-ish cars
No Fanatec wheel support
No Auction House
No Storefront
No Porsche
No offroad
No tyre sidewall markings

I wonder what other good news is in store..

No Bathurst.
No V8 Supercars.

Calling it now.

It's their brand, of course they're at fault. EA not sharing is just a side story.

EA has complete control over the Porsche license in videogames.

This reminds me of the MS saga. Negatives after negatives.

I'm starting to wonder, what is going to draw the masses here..?

It's not shocking really. Forza 2 was basically Forza 1 HD.

MS obviously rushed them to get it finished for the release of the console. Which is a shame. Should have given them another year.

Forza 2 was delayed for a year (seemed like MS believed it needed one year :P ), but gave us new physics (for reals), 100 more cars, painting with ten times more layers, proper performance ratings, engine swaps and 60FPS. Could be much more as I never played Forza 1.
Forza 5 hasn't shown any big new feature so far IMO.

What I'm saying is Porsche should be dissatisfied with their arrangement with EA. It's not in their best interest to be excluded from the biggest racing games in the world, and just about every other lesser one as well. It's not beneficial to the Porsche brand, and I wish they'd realise this.

They can be dissatisfied all they like (Protip: They are), EA has control.

Laser scanned tracks are pretty fucking big in sim circles.

Fm2 also removed
long p2p tracks
night racing (fm1 had it)
Stuff like paint staying on guardrails after a crash, debris staying on the road etc.
Few more things.

I hope they carry over more than 300 car models, otherwise it would be a huge waste of resources and a serious hit to the games longevity.

No Porsche?

When it rains, it fucking pours. Hate to say it, but I'm getting numb to the disappointments at this point. Nowhere to go but up now, right?

After looking at blims vid the idea of the xbox not keeping up with the ps4 is a joke. Everyone talking about the specs of both machines yet when the games are shown, you can't pick a clear winner between them, funny that.

I missed the part of the Gamespot stage demo where Dan was briefly talking tracks, and Turn 10's new <6mm laser-scanner, noting that they've recaptured existing tracks, as well as scanning new ones.

This is a huge development for the series, and it's borderline criminal Turn 10 hasn't been talking it up more. Earlier, I was skeptical that they'd go back and rescan the older GPS-sourced tracks, despite SatansReverence's valiant efforts to convince me otherwise. I stand corrected, SR; from the sound of things, you seem to have been right.

This a game seller to me, and ultimately probably a system seller.

Number of cars don't dictate the longevity of a game, not by a long shot.

True enough I suppose, I'm just a little concerned that a lot of the more esoteric interesting cars will be dropped in favour of the more exotic hypercars. The supercars don't seem to have as much scope for tuning within the game, and I'm afraid that will see a lot of the tuners drift from the game sooner.

The number and variety of tracks are also hugely important ( Turn10's record in this regard being patchy at best.) Multiplayer functionality also comes into play, and Turn10 has done this well in the past, apart from Forza3 in my opinion.

Writing from a painter's point of view I'll have to wait and see if the replacement of the Auction House and storefront with their cloud based system will keep interest and user generated content at the same levels as previous games. I do so love painting virtual jigsaws, it's like digital crack.lol.

p.s. Doesn't Prague have a certain PGR vibe to it?lol

You just have to keep digging that knife in, don't you? :(

I'm still confident :D

So, Jalopnik played some FM5 and posted this shot of some of the career mode (?) racing leagues:

Notice anything? Neither did I.

Then MatthijsMcLaren on Forzacentral pointed out the background of the Racing league:

Still got nothing? David_911 of FC posted this image of a certain uphill corner of a certain Belgian circuit:

You are doing this thing that the Internet loves to do which is collect and list only those thing perceived negative while ignore the positives....like eye bleeding graphics at 1080/60 and other things badass about a new Forza on new hardware.

You are just looking for things to say no to. Like the Auction House and Storefront obviously they aren't scrapping the system but changing how tunes, liveries, and graphics are shared. We no nothing more and this is a game with 6 months of development left and a long feature rollout plan.

Everyone relax. The game will be awesome.

No offense to anyone who uses it, but really hate watching videos of people who use the driving line. It just screams VIDEO GAME.

He's just being Saladine. He's a good guy and a fan at heart, so we put up with his endless whining about audio and Australian cars and whatever else his drama queen ass is upset about at any given time. He's pretty much cemented as a part of the Forza landscape at this point.

Eh, similar signs have been seen in the past which lead to nothing.

GT has been doing that for a while. So has NFS Shift 2 I believe.

LOL No and No...

Haha, it was because their press release thing said they did it across all tracks. Don't worry, I'm expecting some form of disappointment from it :P

I've got nothing nice to say at the moment about this game.

I could rationalize nixing weather and night effects....but I won't. There's no excuse.

I could rationalize the decision to use resources to make Autovista versions of all cars....but I won't. Like Seanspeed, I've MAYBE spend 10 minutes in Autovista and it was just to get the achievement.

What I can't rationalize is this idea of a lower car count. If anyone has raced with me then you'd know I use the most oddball cars to beat the shit out of online players....so if this iteration takes the "most popular" approach.....fuck the graphics. Fuck the courses. Fuck Microsoft, and most of all fuck Turn10.

I'll officially be out.

You're starting to sound like me and PGR5. Just give it up, man... save your sanity while you still can!

So I've been watching some Forza 5 interviews and I'm really starting to get intrigued with the new Drivetar thing. It seems like the game will be constantly evolving as new player based AIs are created to race against. Then I watched this interview with Indycar racer Tony Kanaan at some MS E3 party where he's saying that he plays Forza so you might end up racing against his and other real professional driver's AIs. That sounds awesome depending on how good those AI simulations will end up being in terms of mimicking people's real driving styles and decisions.

You could do some amazing things with Drivatar in Forza 1. It's a solid technology.

You disappoint me, Shaneus. I would have thought that you, of all people, would understand that true foresight is seldom appreciated in its own time. Those of limited vision, the pitiful fools whose imaginations are wanting, may dismiss those of us who believe as deluded or insane, but they are wrong.

If you, my friend, have joined their ranks, if the mightiest among us can be made to fall, then this community is lost.
