Destiny Gameplay Premiere

Wait, so can we play this game (shoot) in third person at will?

Nope. Probably. Third person is in use in the hub area, based on previous info.

The system seems to be working like Armor Abilities in Reach, depending what you use, the camera moves to third person for a moment. Doesn't seem to be applying to all abilities.

This makes me wonder... where Armor Abilities in Reach a test for Destiny?
Wondering the same about ODST mission structure, hub-world with more linear missions.

Fucking brilliant, that music.
Indeed
Do we know how Space Travel works?

The idea of being able to fly from space port to space port makes me very excited.

During the Demo we saw Jason drop in from his ship, but there was no way he was in control of that thing, so at the very least we're not allowed to fly in atmos.

Trying to not let the hype get out of control.
Don't think they've said anything about space travel. I assume/hope it's in, Bungie did do space combat in Reach after all.
I believe Sony has said that they want to launch every PS4 game at 1080p and 60FPS
What they want and what they'll get are two different things. Like someone posted above, Killzone is 30 FPS, and that's one of their first party games.

Does this game have an ending? Like can you finish the game in one sitting? How about offline?

It is a pseudo-MMO, with RPG-like progression and loot, and the zones (planets) are not small. No offline play (confirmed by Bungie around the reveal).
Unlike that you can finish the game on one sitting.

EDIT actual ending.. the game probably doesn't have ending as such. Storyline, sure, one that will be (at least i assume it will be) continued in so called "Comet" DLCs (expansion packs? Assuming the old contract and the plans in it are still in effect).

Looks really interesting and I plan on buying...but its comedic how it looks like halo reskinned. Really hope there is not too much corridor shooting...be nice to have a change.

How are they planning to commercialize this? With DLC packs or are there going to be some kind of expansions and micro transactions similar to classic MMOs?

All of the above.

From the leaked contract, they're going to come out with a yearly major expansion.

They'll also have DLC (confirmed since Sony gets exclusive DLC, implying there's also non-exclusive DLC for everyone).

Micro-transactions are the only thing I haven't really heard anything about, however it wouldn't surprise me if they were there in some fashion. I can imagine things like buying a $2 booster pack which increased your loot find rate, or XP gain rate for X days and things like that.

Interesting. So, they're planning to evolve the game and the game world through content expansions? Or are they going to release sequels in the near future?

Destiny, Comet (expansion), Destiny 2, Comet 2, Destiny 3, Comet 3, Destiny 4, Comet 4...
Comet 1 would be in 2015 probably, Destiny 2 in 2016, and so on.

expansion/DLC based. in that contract (which might have changed) it said that between each major release in the series there would be a sizable dlc expansion labelled "comet". if there are competitive maps (which i don't think there are in the traditional sense) expect map packs similar to COD as well.

Sounds like a plan. I'll keep an eye on this game.

That was based on the old contract, no idea if it is still correct.
I'll note that the original plan was to release Destiny in 2013, i think... anyone remember for sure?

To me, it looked like Activision was planning to replace (or perhaps complement?) COD with Destiny and its tight release schedule.

I think they showed 9 people in the demo, im sure there will be times when there are lots of people. I wouldnt be surprised if its instanced like in Guild Wars.

That's my thought. Some public areas/cities that are safe and have tons of players. Then you port to a small instance with few friends like they showed. Then that can reach a public play area where you can see more players at once. But this second transition was seamless and seemingly not reversible (he dropped off into the battlefield area).

Very good interview.

Some highlights:
-Individual loot, not fighting over loot.
-Public and private areas. Can't meet random people in private areas.
-All items have some gameplay impact.
-Race is purely cosmetic, as is gender. Class doesn't have big impact, more like fine-tuning.

The bold sucks. Whats the point of creating alts and/or multiple characters if the classes are all the same?

They're not all the same. For example, the Warlock has space magic unlike the other two... they meant that you don't lose out if you don't play class X (EDIT they don't want you to regret your class choice). The game is a shooter, the class abilities are just extra.

I want to know how they are going to keep this interesting and fresh for the 10 years they plan for it to exist. I'm just not seeing anything that draws me in to this franchise.

You and me and everybody else, if i have to guess. Expect for hardcore Bungie fans.

But... what keeps people playing WoW from year to year? COD?
I reckon they're trying to do a game that keeps one playing, if you like it in the first place.

Original contract also outlined a PC version as well, I hope that portion is still honored.

I'm not 100%, but I don't think it said anything about a PC version for Destiny 1 (although it didn't say anything about a PS4 version for Destiny 1 either). I know it definitely said PC for Destiny 2.

Why? Triggers are meant for pressure sensitive actions and aiming isn't like that. I never understood the idea behind using them as actual triggers. Especially the Dualshock's

Anyway the game looks decent. It's a mix of Halo, Borderlands and Mass Effect with a little Star Wars on top. It sure is pretty but I don't know if it's a 10 year game

It will make it easier for the legions of former xbox peoples to acclimate to their new PS4s? ;)

EDIT: do we have a Bungie or Destiny community manager posting at GAF anymore?

One thing I think Bungie have missed a trick on so far is that we are supposedly playing a guardian, a protector of earth, but we haven't seen anything or anyone to protect. Are we protecting a lavish, rich civilisation or are we protecting thousands of weak humans, cowering under the shadow of the traveller.

I think they could play on the peril and the hope of the people the guardians are protecting a bit more.

Well, the Guardians seem to be kind of adventuring knights as well. They protect by attacking enemies... and looting them

But yeah, i get what you mean.
Halo: Reach had the same issue: we were supposed to care about the planet, protect its people and importance to the UNSC... Meh is all i have to say about the place.

In Destiny, if you fly to Mars and just plant yourself in one of the public areas, you'll see people streaming in. You'll see monsters dropping from the sky. You'll maybe even see a monster that shows up once a month, that people have only told you rumors about on forums. But that stuff just happens in our world, and it's pretty magical."

That sounds fucking cool.

Wait, there are different races? Sweet. Also, is there armor customization as well or is it the same from Hour 1?

3 but its only a cosmetic choice. Human (duh), Awoken, which are white skinned elf-like people with glowing eyes, and Exos, which are robots.

Tons of armor customization, saw 6 different slots and the armor can be found in loot drops. not just cosmetic, armor will have game-play effects.

EDIT: damn you woorloog, always one step ahead. ;)

Perhaps i should collect all the information about Destiny to one thread?
Or someone else should. Complete info-thread would be nice.

Cool, you can blind your enemies?

So will you be able to customize your characters appearance under the helmet? Like the face and hair etc. I'm assuming no but it would be cool.
I think you can... or at least the character has face. I mean, you can choose your race, but all 3 are quite human-like, and for that to be visible, i reckon you can leave your face visible. And in the trailer, there's a moment where someone is talking to the player character, who doesn't have his helmet on. At least, that's my interpretation.
Cool, you can blind your enemies?

What makes you to ask that?

Also is it just me or is having both Solar Flare and Nova Bomb redundant?

Edit: Derp, my friend just pointed out that Solar Flare is probably a stun/flashbang type thing.

Hell yeah, R2/L2 are default shooting/aiming. Nice!

Definitely going with Guardian, such a neat design.

EDIT: By Guardian I mean Warlock. Pretty sure being a Guardian is implied. Fail.
