This game looks spectacular, and I know that I'm going to get hate for this...but, thank god for ADS on the left trigger. Lack of ADS for many weapons in Halo sucked.

No, it didn't. Go play CoD or something like that if that's the sort of shooter mechanic you enjoy. Not saying there's much inherently wrong with it, though its current implementation in most shooters renders games less skillful/more campy & slow.

You got the hate you expected, I suppose.
You deserve way more for insinuating Halo specifically needed ADS. ;)

Isn't one of the reasonings why many fans don't want ADS in Halo is due to 'slowing down the game' or something akin to that? COD is probably the fastest shooter on the market currently though.

Why does it have to be like Halo?

I know it was never Bungie's goal to have Destiny be like Halo or the next Halo. That said I definitely understand where people are coming from being bummed if that is what they were hoping for out of the game. The problem is there aren't any MP shooters like Halo 2 or 3 left. I miss those games too.

ADS can make singleplayer shooters such a fucking bore. Being able to move around while still being accurate is what made Halo so great. We've already got a billion shooters with ADS anyway.

If we're talking singleplayer CoD really isn't fast.

When you're talking about actually moving around a map, yes, it's pretty fast. When you're talking about the combat, it's "fast" in the sense that it takes little to no time to kill people, which permits you to get kills more rapidly. When you're talking about one-on-one gunplay, it's a different story because a player is forced to become practically immobile (ineffective strafing) by going ADS in order to get an accurate shot at a certain distance. Even close up - with hipfiring and jumping/drop-shotting - your weapons are inconsistent to the point where it doesn't matter that ADS isn't necessary... the encounters are still too random.

Halo is an arena shooter based on a balanced weapon sandbox and consistent gunplay. Your movement allowances (strafing and jumping) make encounters last longer but require more dedication and focus from players. ADS is unnecessary here because the kill times are long enough that it would just make the combat boring, repetitive, and static if everyone was strafing circles around each other, moving more slowly for some reason, and unaware of their surroundings because of the FOV decrease.

CoD is nowhere near as fast as UT or Quake, and neither have ADS in the vein we've become accustomed to.

edit: It's not like I'm not going to play Destiny because of ADS. It'd be fine if your weapon/character attributes didn't change as a result of going ADS (really the only advantage of ADS, imo, should be that the player can "zoom in" a little bit). I don't see why it has to be much more complicated than that for most shooters.

Thanks for the clarification. I think there's room for both types of shooters in the market. I enjoy both anyway.

Exact opposite feeling here... I'm hoping ADS isn't a focal point of the game and that firing from the hip is at least reasonably accurate.

Same here. I'm a big fan of Battlefield and don't mind the mechanic in that game. It's supposed to be a lot more realistic than, say, Halo or Destiny.

That's the thing, the vast majority of shooters already leans towards CoD style gameplay.

Dude, your comment on that YT video about how much money that guy spent on his avatar was hilarious. Probably more funny because I recognized you (at least I think it was you), but still.

watching the DBO interview atm.

Chris mentions you can bring all of the player customization into competitive multiplayer. So it's going to come down to who has found the better weapons and abilities. Heavily disappointed by that. Was hoping for a more fair and equal multiplayer (Combat Evolved) instead of who plays more (Call of Duty). sigh

This exactly. People are either leaning in towards Halo or CoD, which is ridiculous. Bungie has been making Shooters for twenty years now and they sure as hell didn't start with Halo. Pathways Into Darkness, Marathon, Halo, ect. They all kind of yielded something from the last. While Bungie learned a lot from Halo (and Marathon and PiD) they are making a brand new game full of new elements and new worlds and new characters and even a new engine, which is something they haven't done in almost 10 years. It's gonna be separate. It's gonna be good. It's gonna be Destiny,

Why people want to make every other frakking game out there more like Halo i'll never understand - hey fanboys, you do know that a new Halo game is coming your way, in the not too distant future, right?

Stop decrying it for something it's not and let Destiny find it's own identity. The pissing and whining that it's "not enough like Halo" has gotten real old already.

It's actually more akin to the type of competitive gameplay you get from WoW Arena. Time spent in CoD only has an effect on access to certain weapons. An argument can be made for Perks, I suppose, but even those aren't that much of a game changer tbh.

In any case, I'm sure it won't be that big of a deal in Destiny.

Because as shooters go, not that many games come close to the stuff Halo pulls off.

And Halo 4 just wasn't that good (my pet theory being on account of some higher-ups working on it having worked on Killzone).

If they can do the open world loot stuff, the in and out of SP and Co-op stuff, plus the competitive stuff Halo is known for, it could be an awesome game. I know Bungie can do it but I am also interested to see what 343i do after Halo 4. Great game, just not what fans wanted.

You guys would probably hate this, but i really wish this game would have this full single-player/co-op/MMO campaign, but then, in addition to that, have a full competitive multiplayer component, a'la Halo, set in the Destiny universe. Just the thought of playing essentially a new Halo on my PS4 sounds amazing.

I don't know. Still really excited for this game either way.

Can I just state the obvious again and say this game has unequaled art design for nextgen titles.

It very well could have some PVP arenas, which would effectively be a deathmatch type game. Or a public event that pitches groups against each other, including bots that are everyone's enemy.

Yeah I think they said something to that effect, having some sort of competitive aspect integrated into the "campaign". I would just Luke it where, if I want to play competitive multiplayer, I could just go into a separate component on the game without having to go into the main campaign. But again, game still looks amazing and its not really a huge deal. I just love the idea of playing a Bungie-made Halo-like multiplayer on PS4.

I imagine the campaign will have a story that at some point "runs out", similar to many MMOs. And while on that story it introduces you to all the elements of gameplay. After that story you continue playing/replaying for loot, stats and personal fun. And you can continue playing in a PVE or PVP or co-op or whatever you like mode. It is the best way of keeping people's attention for the long term.

Re: the multiplayer approach, I'd honesty be surprised if Bungie didn't consider implementing arenas or rule-sets that negate the effect of gear, given their pedigree.

I, for one, don't mind the effect of gear: there is something unique and special about being aided by a higher-level player, especially given the theme of this world. But they didn't become the "kings" of the arena shooter genre without some good fellows pointing out the best way to plot things out.
