GOG's #NoDRM Summer Sale [UP: Last day]

Bullfrog pack and the Telltale games are today's daily deals.

I've never played the Sam & Max games. How good are they? Are the puzzles really obtuse or are they fairly manageable? Interesting story, characters, good writing, lots of humor? Should I pick up all of the episodes or just one of them?

Lots of humour, for sure, although the second season beats the first by a massive margin and I hear Devil's Playhouse is even better. Puzzles are on the purple monkey dishwasher side of things in my experience, but your mileage may vary on that count. All the packs here are full seasons, of which I'd recommend downloading the free episode, Abe Lincoln Must Die, and if you enjoyed that picking up Beyond Time and Space & Devil's Playhouse.

Returning for more wallet punishment...

Is Unepic worth it at 50% off? Did they ever do a 66% or 75%?

Also, SotS II: EE is discounted on GMG. Is it truly cleansed of (at least the) major bugs? Can you apply the weekend coupon to it?

Edited to add: Treasure Adventure Game and Warsow are free on GOG right now.

They've always been free on GOG.

I do recommend Treasure Adventure Game. I really liked that one, except for the ending, which was way too abrupt and felt woefully incomplete.

do deals (namely, that one collection with all the BGs, IDs, P:T, NWNs, etc.) ever repeat? I'm in no hurry to buy them and the sale goes until the 5th (?), but I don't really know what gog's policy is on that kind of thing. otherwise, I'll just pick up the ones I want a la carte now.... though it'd obviously be a bit pricier.

The sale goes for two weeks, and each day there are typically two bundles (or in a few cases a random assortment of individual games).

Last Friday they ran all the deals at once. It's very likely they do the same thing on the last day, which will be July 4. So if you missed anything that was a daily promo ( > 50% off), you will probably get one more chance.

They already repeated them, because they had every daily deal up at the same time on June 21st. I don't know if they will again, but it seems unlikely.

Soo... trying again today, maybe someone knowledgeable can help me out.

Is UnEpic worth the $4.99? Or should I wait for a bundle deal/75% off?

Has anyone played Sword of the Stars II: Enhanced Edition? Is it worth the 50% GMG discount? Does the extra 25% rebate coupon apply to it?

The special offers' siren call beckons...

I've never played the Legacy of Kain games, do they still hold up?
I haven't played them in awhile but for the most part, yes. Soul Reaver 1 might be a little hard on the eyes. Lots of fog and draw distance but otherwise, a great game. Defiance should hold up the best, obviously. I would also highly recommend the original Blood Omen, but it's not currently available.

Is Blood Omen 2 worth getting? I have all LoK games from a previous sale...
Blood Omen 2 is okay but it controls differently than the rest of the series, except for the original Blood Omen. It's kind of janky but I had a lot of fun with it nonetheless.

IIRC Blood Omen 2 was supposed to be a sequel to Chakan at first - a completely different series - and it shows, heavily. Doesn't really feel like a Legacy of Kain game.

So when's the sale after this one? Winter? Or does GOG do a Fall sale? I need to pick up Freespace 2 and pay attention next time to its duration in the sale.

Yes, I am a moron for not reading and understanding that $5 was as low as it was going.

They do have a year end sale, or at least did in the last few years. No idea if they do another major sale in between though.

Are you playing Gothic 3 with the fan patch and mods? Cuz I was told it's the weakest Gothic games but the patches and mosd improve it.

GoG version comes with all the fan patches pre-installed, so yes :)

Riddick is Riddick. Escape from Butcher Bay remains very good, Assult on Dark Athena less so. Still worth $7.49, mind, especially considering the GOG version is the only TAGES-free version out there.

Yep, Dark Athena was a bit weaker, but still fun. Butcher Bay was great, however, and the remade graphics look great.

Riddick was a mess technically, at least the version that launches from Dark Athena. Getting it to work with widescreen without getting weird distortions was difficult/impossible.

Not far into system shock 2 and I already regret it. I've never played any of the system shock games, so maybe you just had to be there when it came out. Playing it today for the first time... I have better things to do.

Good to support GOG though.

Defender's Quest is a great game, especially if you like a bit of RPG goodness with your retro-styled tower defence. Very entertaining.

Gotta remember to make all my final purchases on the 4th XD

Speaking of Defender's Quest, I'll have it installed on my sister's lappy so she can try it out.

Defender's Quest is a solid non-maze-building tower defense game with RPG elements. Recommended if you like TD. Also, anyone who doesn't have FTL should buy FTL, unless you get very frustrated from random elements in games.

DAY 16

RPG Open Worlds (Avadon + Geneforge 1-5 + Avernum: The Complete Saga + Eschalon: Book 1+2): $13.20

The Unwritten Saga (The Book of Unwritten Tales + The Book of Unwritten Tales: Critter Chronicles): $9.98

Getting close to the final deadline for mopping up on remaining deals, folks. Don't miss it if you're after anything that's not appearing in the bundles!

I procrastinated so long that I tried to make my purchase on my cellphone on the bus, but I had some problems filling in the payment numbers so the time ran out.

I'll grab Baldur's Gate 2 instead (will skip the first one) and be done with this sale.

Because $1,49 matters.

This fucking game, must be all the fan patches, because it's not nearly as janky as I expected. It plays exactly like Risen :)

Gothic 3 comes highly recommended. Only five dollars! (And alot of messing around in the .ini to get proper draw distances and make the game use 2gB of ram instead of 1)

Edit: For some reason the AA is gone in the shot, odd.

FINAL DAY

Everything's back! (Except the ones that vanished halfway through?)

I don't think I need list it, do I?

It's decent, yea. For comparison: When it came out, boars were nigh on invincible. You could kite them to a location and the NPCs would all get slaughtered by them. There are probably a few videos on Youtube that show it off.

Tempted to grab Riddick. I own it on Steam but it wont launch and I dont know why. Ive been told it was because it doesnt like 64 bit Windows 7 but I was also told it was the DRM. Is 7.49 worth that risk. Hmmm.

I can confirm that the GOG version of Riddick works on 64 bit Windows 8, to the best of my knowledge. And yeah, the DRM is TAGES, which IMO is worse that SecuROM ever was.

Nope, both the Fair & Square pack and the ArmA pack are present and correct (although sans any individual discount).

Ah, excellent. I had to be elsewhere so I couldn't pore through the full list, but it's good to see those back as well. I did wonder, actually, given the ArmA pack appeared after the individual discounts were removed.
