GOG's #NoDRM Summer Sale [UP: Last day]

Bummed that the Interplay stuff (specifically FS2) didn't go back on sale.

Oh well, I'm waiting until the next sale and then I will pull the trigger on the first day!

Tempted to grab Riddick. I own it on Steam but it wont launch and I dont know why. Ive been told it was because it doesnt like 64 bit Windows 7 but I was also told it was the DRM. Is 7.49 worth that risk. Hmmm.

I played and beat the GoG version a few days ago on my 64 bit Windows 7 desktop. Everything worked fine. From the looks of it, the steam version sucks and the GoG version works great. I love the Riddick games.

Too bad System Shock 2 didn't get any cheaper. Oh well, 5 USD is still an awesome bargain!

Bought System Shock 2 and Clive Barker's Undying now.

If I were to choose one, which pack would provide me the most value and/or entertainment. I play anything whether its an rpg or fps:

Indie RPG Invasion
Fair & Square Eidos games
Definitive Dungeons and Dragons

Which of the Tex Murphy games are worth getting? Gonna make my final purchases soon but want some info about the games in the series first ^^;

Forget what I asked. So I went and bought the Wadjet collection as I got most of the games except the new release which gives me a nice discount! and the Heroes bundle.
Hmm I just noticed I have Giana Sisters which I don't remember remember that.

I always liked Under a Killing Moon best, but I never played Overseer, which was the newest one.

Under a Killing Moon is probably the most iconic, The Pandora Directive is more polished but still charming. They both have a lot of the same characters and locations. Martian Memorandum is also a pretty decent point and click, but the FMV games are where it's at with that series.

Wow, had no idea Street Fighter Alpha 2 was on there. If it had online, I'd already be playing it. Does have the best soundtrack in the series though.

Probably getting FTL and Alpha Centauri(I own it on disc, but why not).

Also need to get Sam and Max Season 3 at some point.

You should get all three, but Under a Killing Moon and The Pandora Directive are superior to Overseer.

Not counting the "older" ones (1 and 2), for me the order would be Pandora Directive > Under a Killing Moon > Overseer. Moon was incredible at the time, but Pandora is the more refined version.

All three of them are great though.

Is there any reason not to play the Tex games in the release order (UAKM -> Pandora -> Overseer)?

Playing them order is probably the right way to go.

I will say this though, I think UAKM is better than pandora as a game. Pandora has way too many puzzles. Still a good game, but i really enjoyed the balance UAKM had when it came to puzzles. Pandora has a better story, and has interesting world moments. UAKM, while basic, is very fun to play. Pandora just goes apeshit with the puzzles by the end.

It's decent, yea. For comparison: When it came out, boars were nigh on invincible. You could kite them to a location and the NPCs would all get slaughtered by them. There are probably a few videos on Youtube that show it off.

Well you still need to kite them early on if you want to survive outside of running away, but they are nowhere as dangerous as the boars in Risen. I feared them more than the ogres. Other than a few kinks like FALLING DOWN every time you fight anything that isn't human it's really fun, manages to keep my attention much better than Oblivion or Fallout NV. I'm a sucker for atmosphere and the game has just the right dosage.

Ended up getting the D&D pack as well as System Shock 2. Already had most of those games, but none of what I have was updated for Windows 7. System Shock 2 was an especially good buy for being able to play it on a modern system as well as 1080p finally (since the texture pack mods never seemed to get finished). I also noticed that they had Star Control 2; which was probably my favorite game for the 3DO aside from SSF2:Turbo. Couldn't bring myself to buy it though, because it would be extremely hard to look at.

Oh I know, I've had the physical discs of Freespace 2 from when it initially released. I'm just getting sick and tired of having to go hunting for them whenever I want to re-install the game!

Freespace 2 was on sale during the first half of the overall GOG sale. I kept waiting for it to go lower than $5 (which admittedly was a stupid thing to do) and then it popped back to $10 midway through. Apparently the Interplay titles were on sale for only a limited time (which I would have known had I read the OP more carefully).

Oh well, there'll be another sale later in the year.

if you have nothing in that D&D pack, i would say thats your best Value + Entertainment.

Do you guys recommend me the original Baldur's Gate over the Enhanced Edition?

If you're willing to go through the effort of modding BG1, then yes playing BG1 via easytutu or BG Trilogy would be the best way to go. Check the GOG forums for guides. If you don't want to have to worry about modding (which is a bit of work), then I think BG Enhanced Edition is the better way to go, especially now that it's only $5.

I can confirm that the GOG version of Riddick works on 64 bit Windows 8, to the best of my knowledge. And yeah, the DRM is TAGES, which IMO is worse that SecuROM ever was.
Honestly SecuROM was one of the most mild solutions out there, its biggest problems being if they didn't include a deactivation tool and if they actually used some of the crappier options. Well, I'm not digging into how invasive of a solution they may be, but TAGES having a hard limit that requires calling in and hoping for the best is... yeah, fuck that. Glad Riddick dumped that via GOG, and same for Witcher 1 through patches even though it never had a system activation limit.

Bought Sam & Max season 2 (Beyond Time and Space) this morning, and noticed on Steam that Walking Dead works on mac, too. On a whim, I checked this too, and that works on mac, but the GOG version is PC only. Is there a way to get this working on Mac, too or do I have to get off my lazy ass and boot into the PC side of my Macbook to play it?

i has a spare GOG key for Multiwinia after buying their Introversion bundle subsequent to a kind GAFer gifting me the game.

Is that any use to anyone here?

I can just tell you the key and you can own the game, yes?

Sorry, pc gaming noob here so I'm still getting used to the non console quirks :).

Disappointed that the Interplay stuff didn't get bundled, but oh well. Next sale I guess.

Still pretty damn happy with my purchases. Got the Dungeons and Dragons bundle, System Shock 2 and Chronicles of Riddick.

Now only if I had time to play them... :(

I bought Heroes of Might and Magic 3 for $5 and The Last Express for $3. Only -50% discounts, but I'm not willing to buy any silly bundles at the moment. :p

Huh, guess Telltale never submitted their Mac versions to GOG. Might be worthwhile sending Telltale an e-mail about it.

Now only if I had time to play them... :(

Yeah, that's the biggest problem. Sure, super cheap games and a lot of them interest me. But I have PLENTY of games to play already and I never play them to begin with.

I think my haul will look like this in the end:
Alan Wake
King of Dragon Pass
FTL (not sure about this one)
Baldur's Gate 2 (I'll skip the first one becuase of well, time.)

Faster than Light is an awesome game. Skipping the first Baldur's Gate is probably wise. I played a few years ago and I wasn't very impressed by it.

Just picked up Tiny & Big which makes my haul:

Alan Wake (not the bundle)
Witcher 2
FTL
Hotline Miami
Tiny & Big

There may be slightly cheaper deals on Steam in the near future, but I'd rather pay a few more pence and be DRM free.

Given the timing it strikes me that they might segue directly into their weekend deal after this. Which'll be a bit weird.

What a fantastic sale. My $28 haul was:

Bullfrog Classics Bundle (already owned the rest):
Magic Carpet 2: The Netherworlds
Syndicate Wars

RPG Open Worlds:
Eschalon: Book I
Eschalon: Book II
Avernum: The Complete Saga
Avadon: The Black Fortress

Fair and Square Selection (already owned the rest):
Daikatana (Don't even ask. I wanted to finally try it after all these years.)

Strike Commander
Clive Barker's Undying
Great Battles Collector's Edition
System Shock 2

Only ended up grabbing Miasmata, and didn't grab a lot of the EA games I had my eye on. I can hold off on the Wing Commanders until later on me thinks.
