Unbelievable that you're attempting to defend this. This is extremely fucking unreasonable. Just look at the fan reaction. Look how bad it makes Nintendo look compared to the other Japanese(!) companies that are there and have no problems with supporting the efforts of their fans. Because that's what this all amounts to.I disagree. The entire Smash fanbase isn't that way. This isn't even addressing my question.
I'm speculating that Nintendo doesn't want the Smash brand to be associated with the possible (likely) shenanigans of Evolution, which isn't an unreasonable position to take. The vast majority of people who play this game aren't playing it in a setting like this.
I also think you're overestimating Nintendo's awareness of the whole issue. Nintendo is a lumbering giant with many cogs working, often against each other. This is most likely in the wake of them trying to shut down every LP and YT channel reproducing their content on a general order from some of their over-70, retirement-age Japanese execs who can't possible grasp the consequences of their reactionary decisions.
wtf are you even on about.Further, if they were doing what you're suggesting, they'd cancel the entire tournament all together, wouldn't they? They just don't want it streamed.
They have no legal grounds to prevent people from fucking playing their game. Contrary to their current behaviour, Nintendo does not have the powers of a fascist dictator when it comes to their games - however, what they can do is shit all over their fans and prevent a their fans from streaming the game because EVO makes some money off the stream and Melee.
It's fucking disgusting, that's what it is.Isn't what way? Those are the most dedicated, passionate fans they have. They're saying that they don't want to be associated with them to the extent that they're using legal force to prevent them from streaming what they came together to raise $100,000 to pull off.
