PS4 Has Fifty Percent Lead Over Microsoft's Xbox One, Says Strategy Analytics Survey

"Our survey suggests that consumers believe the PS4 will win the early phase of the next generation console war," says Jia Wu, Director, Connected Home Devices (CHD). "Sony's performance at E3 was widely accepted as superior to Microsoft's, and the survey evidence suggests this has already fed through to the wider consumer market."

The report notes that the PS4 leads in both the US and Europe, in spite of the fact that Xbox 360 currently has a lead over the PS3 in the US. In the key 20-35 age group nearly 30 percent of respondents are very or somewhat likely to buy a PS4 compared to under 20 percent for Xbox One.

Methodology: Strategy Analytics conducted an online survey, the ConsumerMetrix Survey fielded in June 2013. The sample consisted of n=2062 individuals in the US and n=4118 in Europe ages 15-74. Strategy Analytics weighted the data by country, age, gender and internet use to represent the US and European populations of internet users, respectively.

Just like when Rick Perry had a huge lead over other candidates with months to go before the people decided for themselves nationwide, right?

Note that I'm a huge fan of the PS4, as well, before jumping on your conclusions mat.

B-b-but I thought the Wii U was going to win!

...I'm sorry.

EDIT: For real, I'm not surprised. MS will have to do some work to recover from that really bad PR.

Nice.

Getting an Xbox One along with my PS4, but I would like to see the PS4 "Win" this gen by a small amount, if only because I want more friends to play with and I want games to be made for the superior hardware.

And analysts also said the PS3 was going to crush the 360, where's that chart again. Also according to everyone, the Wii was going to be a total flop.

I think i'll wait and see.

Europe is hardly a surprise, but if PS4 beats Xbone in the US?

Ooooh boy...

That would hardly be a surprise either considering ps4 is $100 cheaper and releasing the same season. Theres nothing oooooh boy about it.

Right. As long as it costed $500 to vote for Romney and $400 to vote for Perry, this analogy works.

Sounds pretty reasonable.

PS4's lead would have been much bigger if they didn't change some of their policies. MS will have a loooong process to recover from those wounds.

I expect it to, unless Sony drops the ball.

But, ya know, Tachyons.

I actually expect XBone to be ahead in the US. They have gained a really big market share with the 360 and I don't see it being taken away from MS that easily.

EU however will be a much different story.

The only market Xbox one has a chance to put up good numbers in is NA. I'm betting UK will shift to PS4. The rest of the world? Forget about it.

It's not an unreasonable number. It means a 33% overall shift from the current 77 million that both companies sold this gen resulting in 100 mil PS4, 50 mil XBO. It's actually close to what I predict. 50 mil is still a strong console.

A survey doesn't mean much honestly.

Impressions and opinions can change dramatically from month to month.

One good show or bad show either can radically alter the current status of the market.

PS4 will probably end up leading early on, but that will have more to do with supply and price.

According to Amazon, Watch Dog PS4 bundles are up by 19,280% on Amazon since coming back in stock. That would seem to at least somewhat support these numbers.

Not surprising. I honestly don't think MS will win the next console war. The crazy part? I kind of don't think they care. It would be nice but they're after something that they feel is more important than total boxes sold, even if they lose some customers along the way.

Good good! This industry needs competition so hopefully all sides will pull out the stops and make this next-gen memorable.

I want Ps4 to outsell the Xbox 1 3 - 1 or 4 - 1 it could be amazing.

NOT ..... GONNA ....... HAPPEN!

I don't even think they have the supply to even outsell them by that much. Plus, you can bet MS is gonna pull out all the stops to make XB1 at least partially successful with massive marketing.

2-1 is feasible, but even that isn't incredibly likely.
