Does anyone else not have sympathy for the X-Men?

Because they are bigots. They do not make sense by their very nature.

Right but I refuse to believe that someone who is so anti mutants is going to see Hulk fucking up a city and be like, well he got his powers in a freak radiation accident so I am totally ok with him.

Hahaha. Awesome stories. Why did Scarlet Witch turn off the powers? Didn't she know what would happen? Essentially she is (supposed to be) a good character right?

And yeah do tell me a story of parallax

Because she is a self hating bitch with daddy issues. I'm not even joking; that was the crux of the story. She was yelling at her father because he didn't love her and then she said he loved mutants more than her, so she said "no more mutants" and essentially committed the single greatest act of genocide in history.

I may need you to walk me through to the negative conclusions.

Are you saying you never had thoughts during sex you didn't want other people to know? Even just your mind wandering? Contemplating asking for something fo you or your partner to do?

Well, she was living off by herself and wasn't bothering anybody, but then the x-men and avengers decided that it was time to murder her, so her brother gave her the idea of creating a mutie utopia so that there would finally be peace for mutiekind.

anyway it turns out that if you make muties the dominant population of the planet, they treat humans exactly the same way the humans treat muties. perhaps worse. frustrated with how the muties had managed to balls up their utopia, Wanda decided that the simplest solution was to just turn all the muties into normal people. she was a bit distraught at the time so she didn't get a chance to think about the muties who were flying or swimming in lava or whatever. eventually spiderman talked her brother into trying to kill himself.

They don't hate mutants because they have powers. They hate mutants BECAUSE THEY ARE MUTANTS.

They hate Hulk because Hulk wrecked a city.

They hate Wolverine because he is a mutant.

They hate Storm because she is a mutant.

They hate Jubilee because she is a mutant.

They hate the morlocks, most of which have entirely innocuous powers, because they are mutants.

No it turns out when you create a mutant utopia with Magento as the head, humans get treated like shit. I can't see that if she had made it so Xavier was in charge there would have been much oppression.

Plus her being upset does not really mean that genocide is ok.

There is a sentient supervirus that infects all of humanity and causes them to irrationally hate muties because the virus is incapable of infecting muties.

...

no, really.

Considering it's the Xmen, I 'm not even sure if it's true or not...

The fear is because any kid can suddenly hit puberty and become a mutant. It's not the case of a scientist experimenting with gamma radiation or a freak accident involving radioactive spiders, cosmic rays or nuclear acid. It's just straight up normal shit and people are scared their kids could suddenly be "one of them" even if the kid doesn't have any inclination towards radical chemical experimentation.

Are you saying you never had thoughts during sex you didn't want other people to know? Even just your mind wandering? Contemplating asking for something fo you or your partner to do?

I'm down for mind-meld sex if that's what you're asking. And no, I don't generally have thoughts I want to hide during sex. And I think sex with a telepath would probably make asking a whole lot easier, because we'd both already know what the other would want.

- pats the seat -

a'iiegt, Story time. Let me tell you a few comic book stories some short some long.

Ahem , a long time ago there was a mercenary assassin man named Slade Wilson, this middle aged man had beef with a bunch of teen agers. To get these teenagers, he seduced one of them, a middle aged man. Seduced a teenager to get back at the group of teens, resulting in her switching sides.

You remember Terra from the teen titans cartoon, and she went evil. Its because he fucked her. absorb that.

Which he shouldn't care about, because he is a mercenary, and his job is where the money. So not only is he shitty at his job, he is a very petty human being who have sex with under aged women just to get back at you.

_____________

Next the story of scarlet witch, scarlet witches powers, are very powerful. She can change the world at a whim. And she did, eliminated a bunch of mutant powers at one time. But hey village isn't that what they wanted now they can be normal right? No. Let me throw some hypotheticals at you , how about those people who identified with their gifts, what about those people who were in bad scrapes at the time and now are dead because for some reason in the middle of whatever they were doing their power conked out. What about those who were known for their powers and had people already wanting to kill them, and their powers where their only defense mechanism. Scarlet witch is an effectively as mass murderer and a woman who took away the identities of millions of people.
Eventually during AvX they got it back , but look at all the crap that had to happen for that to happen.

" oh yeah you can have your powers back and new people can get powers, but the world hates you at the moment. so yeah"

______

I have another story the story of parallax if you want to hear, its pretty long though. But it funny and ends on a good note.

These stories are good keep going

OP your opinion is basically the premise for the Civil War storyline. Basically an F-tier superhero team is fighting an F-tier supervillain team, and one of the baddies apparently has the power to explode and nukes a school. This brings out a whole thing about whether or not people should know who is a superhero/mutant and who isn't.

But really everyone is overthinking it. X-Men is supposed to be symbolic of prejudices people face and how people deal with them.

Things we not bad when mutant rules the world

But the metaphor doesn't hold because there are very real reasons to at the very least fear mutants. I mean, logically, many mutants are easily capable of not only murder but also theft, or for example intimidating a regular non-mutant human with their powers. A non-mutant human has some very really reasons he would not want mutants around him, his fear is 100% justified.

Right but I refuse to believe that someone who is so anti mutants is going to see Hulk fucking up a city and be like, well he got his powers in a freak radiation accident so I am totally ok with him.

Didn't the Xmen originally put costumes so they could pretend they where superheroes and gain the trust of people, and then boom switch-a-roo

What I never understood is how the general public in the Marvel U can differentiate between a mutant and someone with accident/intentional super powers. For example, Spider-Man never gets anti-mutant hate, yet given his powers, the average person can be easily misunderstood that he's a mutant.

He always get falsely accused as a mutant.

This is why you shouldn't look too closely at trying to 1:1 the superhero comic mutant's fear and hatred vs say, fear and hatred against black people. Black people aren't born with super weapons that pop out of their hand, or have the ability to read the minds of the entire opposite team of players and know their every move. If mutants exists, I'd be genuinely scared of them mothafuckas, and I wouldn't want to go to school with them, either.

The mutants refused to take a side during the Registration Civil War. They obviously don't care for the world at large!
IIRC, Civil War was just after M-Day. The global mutant population had just been dropped to 198, and several died almost immediately in that arc. I think they had bigger things to worry about!

There is a sentient supervirus that infects all of humanity and causes them to irrationally hate muties because the virus is incapable of infecting muties.

...

no, really.
But Sublime infects Beast! I thought it was just Wolverine he couldn't infect. Well, anyone with a healing factor at least.

Anyway, to the topic at hand. Typical hate response: focusing on the negatives of every group. What about all the mutants that do good things? There are mutants out there that can cure diseases modern medicine can't fight. There are mutants out there that can put an end to natural disasters like wildfires, earthquakes, tidal waves and everything else. Do you focus on those? No, you only focus on "zomg, that mutant might read my dirty thoughts!" like the governments aren't spying on you already. Sad really.

And yeah do tell me a story of parallax

Don't question already dumb x-men logic.

Ok story time. This story is one the most well known screw ups in comic book (s)history. There are plenty of people who have done videos and news columns about this so if you want more in depth info there is some out there. I believe movie bob as a good few videos about it on the escapist. There are plenty of comic book nerds who have gone over on this on youtube and stuff.

I should just make this a weekly thread, Village's weird comic book story time.

Ok kids the story, of parallax.

Alright, a long time ago in a far off forgotten era called the 90's, comic books were edgy. You know that buzz word people use when people bring up cloud , or shadow the hedgehog or anything that may not be happy. Ya know that buzz word people use to try and piss people off because they like something like that. Yeah that isnt edgy 90's comic books were edgy. 90's comic books are what video games are right now, everything had a gun( even the hulk at one point), everything had muscles. Everything needed a super gritty reboot, and everything was some weird shade of orange brown, well a lot of it. And they let rob leifeld draw everything,
9.jpg

( Call on MEEE~)
it wasn't the best time for comics

Anyways in the 90's DC though they needed some fresh green lantern blood, ok alright cool idea. The more the merrier, GL was always pretty popular why not make more. Except the issue is the way they went about it, they Itachi Uchiha'd the green lanterns. Since Naruto wasnt out at the time a more apt comparison is that they "Nova'd" the green lanterns. Let me explain, so something happened that caused Hal Jordans home town to be destroyed , or something happened and he needed the green lantern core's help. They were like " dude no were are like space god cops we cant just fucking abuse power like that" Hal gets mad and murders the entire green lantern core and calls himself Parallax( this is important) leaving one ring left to be found by Kyle Rayner.

parallax ( hal)
( Kyle)

At the moment his replacement. It eventually gets resolved him and the universes hero's fight its a large event, he realizes what he has done and tried to reverse it and blah blah blah. Usual comic book stuff.

But this story isn't one that just lies in the pages of these comic books, but the reactions people had to them. Now trying to replace or introduce new super heroes is something comic do at the time sometimes they work, like how hal replaced Alan Scott, sometimes it doesn't work like well this . The issue here is that they turned one of the most golden heated, down to earth old school guy - ass super heroes into an evil cosmic entity. And then had him MURDER all his friends ( in some cases family because they were so close) just to replace the guy. Ya wanna know how they replaced alan ( who has the coolest green lantern outfit)

They just replaced him, that was it. Anyways people were no pleased, and this started a decade long campaign called H.E.A.T ( Halls Emerald Attack Team) of fans pissed off about what happened to the green lanturn. These people took out adds in the newspaper, bill boards I have heard, because they were pissed the fuck off. For over a decade these people were angry. That is impressive anger, what is even more impressive is that they did this IN THE 90's before the internet got popularized they didn't have reddit, they didn't have you tube. They didn't have #XboxonenoDRM, these people found each other got organized and showed that to DC.

So later a guy who's name I forget but this guy is awesome, congrats to that guy. Turns the whole green lantern situation around. He brings back, Hal and the lanterns to where they once where and explained like this. Each color is represented by a cosmic spirit animal.

The Green Lanturn:Ion

And the yellow lanterns the green lanterns weakness: Parallax ( see i told ya)

They also used this to introduce a bunch of other color lanterns, Blue for Hope, Red for Rage, Orange for Avarice ( greed), Indigo for compassion, and Violet for love housing the star sapphires who not only have redonklous outfits,

250px-StarSapphires01.jpg

houses Hal jordans vengeful x girlfriend.

And later introducing the black lanterns, who was a whole event by themselves. But that is another story for another time if you wish to hear it

And that kids is the heavily summarized and paraphrased story of parallax.

Aren't they also from the "punch dimension" or something?

Isn't this a meme or something? I don't think there is a punch dimension haha. You never know though. Since I found out about Sublime (an hour ago) I believe anything is possible.

For every mutation that gets healing or psychic powers, statistically speaking there would also be millions with various non-benefical cancers.

lol. two pages and nobody mentions this was a sentient alien (the phoenix force) that caused this?

There's a "what if" version of AVX that has the PF posessing the (not mutant) avengers instead. things don't really go much better.

Part of the reason why the Mutant vs. Everyone else conflict IS a valid comparison is because historically heroes who gained their powers accidentally or through scientific means (or in some cases were even aliens) were celebrities, not monsters. (There are exceptions like Hulk- but that guy caused a TON of damage wherever he went and couldn't be reasoned with).

90% of the avengers lineup (Cap, Thor, Wasp, Ms Marvel, Photon, Hercules, etc) could walk around like anyone else and be swarmed with people looking for autographs. The Xmen were all pariahs from day 1- not because they had powers and were dangerous, but because humanity thought mutants would eventually "replace" them and turn them into a minority. That's not a concern with "accidental" heroes, since those were one off incidents that could happen to anyone.

*Awesome post*

Ok at this point make a topic I'll be there reading all day!
The parallax story is kinda interesting in how it's kinda like how they tried to make edgy stuffs and blew it to high even.
Heck Nintendo is probably too afraid to even mention Metroid after how people reacted to the reboot of Other M (seriously in 10 years we'll talk about it in the same way people talk about this or Cry for Justice or something).
It's horrible what they did to a character people liked so much and it's so fucking dumb too.
Also impressive what hate can do, I fear to think what would happen if somethng like these would happen today (the whole "Cyclops is bad now" is turning me off Xmen so bad it's hilarious)

There is a fatguy from boston named movie bob who explains this far better than I do , so if you want a bit more

Here ya go. He also goes over some of the green lanterns history.

Because she is a self hating bitch with daddy issues. I'm not even joking; that was the crux of the story. Awesome summary!

On a more serious not, she had a extreme psychic meltdown that destroyed the Avengers. The fact that neither Xavier nor Magneto could keep her in check and the X-men and Avengers were out of options at this point.

Wanda was and is a huge risk to the whole world and it is not like "everything is solved" - a few month back Jean Grey to a peak into Scarlett Witchs mind and was frightended beyond measure by her. So no she had not been a hero in ten years and even now it is a huge issue, as many people in-universe are questioning her and why some people hunt Cyclops (who get's more and more followers and public support while the other side of the X-men is not of as good)

I think the built up to House of M and the later escalation into Civil War was one of the best things Bendis has done during his Avengers run.

One thing I don't understand is why humans in the Marvel Universe are okay with normal superhumans, but those are born with them are hated.

I love how X-Men fanboys never mention the fact Wanda was basically possessed during all this.

Possessed by what?

She said the same damn thing just a few months ago in Uncanny Avengers. Her exactly phrase was "why should mutants exist?"

Face it, this bitch hates mutants and is a bigger threat to mutantdom than Bolivar Trask and William Stryker combined!

Don't question already dumb x-men logic.

Damn it - now I will go off-topic, but as a two decades long GL fan and reader I want to comment on this.

The thing is: GL was not popular at that point. They had tried everything to make GL popular, but the writing was a mess when the point came to start thinking about ET. The writers had nearly ruined all of Hal's supporting cast (Alien Rape/Saphire pregnancy of Carol), did not know what to do with Guy Gardner, Hal had very boring stories playing out and the only GL having some kind of a good book was John Stewart.

As Gerad Jones - the writer that had to script the original ET - proposed a GL civil war that would destroy the corps and make Hal even stronger it was green lit at first. The design that would later on become Parallax was associated with the name "Protector" and would have been Hal's new codename. But Jones produced a very complicated and convulted storyline and DC hit the full stop (the outline is online - search for it). They hired another writer - Ron Marz - to do the announced storyline with the imperative to have a fully functional GL by the end of a three issue arc, that was more in tune with current societal trends of the 90ties.

The resulting Parallax itself was it great idea. A hero fallen from grace trying to regain his sanity and place among the heroes. In the three years after his fall from grace we would see Hal regain more and more of his sanity and then GL writer Marz even proposed a series for him, but DC needed a hero to sacrifce himself in the 1996 crossover Final Night. Which has one of the best GL moments ever as Jordan recites the oath of the GL to beat the light absorbing monster.

And the rest is a Geoff-con... ah retcon? And now Parallax is a not a troubled anti-hero or fallen hero but a yellow spacebug.

I love how X-Men fanboys never mention the fact Wanda was basically possessed during all this.

Sorry, but this is highly debateable as their are tons of problems with the "Children's crusade" story that make it's status as "truth" questionable, especially since the current Uncanny Avengers and X-Men writers put her innocence and sanity to question. Heinberg is the only writer that tried to absolve her, the rest of the writers is more or less trying to show a long and hard road to redemption. One that in-universe the character does not even want.

And in-universe she is protected because she was an Avenger and the Avengers feel like the own up to her. But at the same time they hunt down and blame Cyclops, who was possesed by a galactic entity because of an Avengers fuck-up. Which is causing friction in the MU too.

Gotta be honest, the yellow space bug became far better ideas than parallax. And lead the way the blackest night. Which if you all like my stories, I can definitely do a weird story time on that too, more specifically batman. But anyways blackest night other lantern cores, all good stuff

Look at this, this is a cat.

if it wasn't for parallax messing everything up I wouldn't have gotten this.
