Indie Games [August] Now Voting - Post 937!

Yay Assault Android Cactus was selected for the Eurogamer Expo Indie Game Arcade, along with a bunch of awesome games http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-08-eurogamer-expo-2013-indie-games-arcade-line-up

If you're going to the event make sure you give it a go :) Pretty thrilled about this!
Congrats on that! Strife was trying to get Freedom Planet in, but apparently narrowly missed the cut. Competition for that spot you got must've been fierce.

Speaking of FP, apparently that's finally in the Top 100 of Greenlight - or at least, was about two weeks ago (I'm just gonna assume it still is).

Finally tried the QUBE demo, really enjoyed it. Number 2 on Wishlist behind Spelunky now. Does the game get more complex/challenging? I know it's just the demo, but it did seem a bit simple

Plus some creature designs:

So Papers, Please, Spelunky and Guacamelee were released today on Steam. If you had to take only one, what would it be?

Honestly it would probably be Papers, Please. Mostly because it's something different and not another sidescroller. Not to diminish the other two but I personally tend to go for something that doesn't feel like a game I've played before.

I've also played the original Spelunky quite a bit as well as this remake last year on XBLA so I guess I'm a bit burnt out on it. Didn't stop me from buying it today though, lol.

^^Hard to choose between Papers, Please and Spelunky but I love roguelikes so Spelunky

Also, voted for this game on Greenlight:
Teslagrad
Greenlight | Trailer

Teslagrad is a puzzle platformer with action elements. Magnetism and other electromagnetic powers are gained throughout the game and must be used to overcome the game's challenges and explore the long abandoned Tesla Tower. The game is set in a steampunk-inspired vision of old Europe, and through voiceless storytelling we intend to tell the story of the fall of the king of Electropia and the rise of a new (and not necessarily better) order.

You will have the more immediate fun with Guacamelee. As a roguelike, Spelunky can be pretty frustrating. I have not tried Papers Please yet.

Just played the EU4 demo for 4 hours and only stopped because my ally england was fucking me over in a peace agreement and gave away one of my regions without my consent.

...goodbye world.

I can lose an entire day without noticing playing Crusader Kings II, and now that you can bring your Crusader Kings II save game to EU4 I must say I'm afraid of it.

I spent 5 hours in the demo before it took 3 other people to drag me kicking and screaming away from my bustling empire in Venice to to play Payday 2.

It's that good.

Playing Inverto 0.50 Alpha on Desura. I had learned of this game last week and I was sold by the freeware version.

It's a great improvement over the freeware version IMO. That was nothing but a warmup!

More levels, larger more expansive levels, more challenging, stats that track completion time, collectibles that require extra puzzling to collect.

Definitely worth $3.99. Overall the game is great. The art style is nice and the gravity switching mechanic provides challenging spatial puzzles that actually made me pause and think

I cancelled my pledge to 7 days to die, you will all think I am being a little pathectic, but in their latest blog post, they are talking about a site doing some Alpha reviews, with the notable mention that this site will be giving away keys!!

Well that is my pet hate on KS, as you are effectively charging people more to play the Alpha $35 vs $15

so if you are going to be giving away keys it should be to your "private" backers, not random people of the net!!

Pledge cancelled

That is not cool. Haven't followed this that closely, but has anything interesting popped up?

Wait, you can actually buy that game now? That's very tempting and honestly a price that's a lot lower then I would have expected

Yeah just released.

I've only made it to Stage 3 so far. 16 levels total and they're much longer than in the freeware version. And even if you played the freeware, the levels are changed around, have entire sections added to them, etc

And if you do buy, it's not in the game but easy = checkpoints and ability to orient towards exit, normal = no checkpoints, hard = no checkpoints or orientation

How come there are checkpoints? Can you die in the game? I don't remember any enemies or fall damage in my limited time with the free version although all that could have been added of course.

You could die in the free version as well. Lasers and being crushed by moving objects. Still no fall damage

I didn't even ask to make it the |OT|, duckroll just liked the game enough I guess to change it :P

Its not really an honor considering the OT tag for Indie threads is really quite useless and just leads to the thread being starved to death after a month.

Yeah I see that, I think there should be an exception of indie game |OT| to stay in Gaming section rather than relegated to Community.

I suggested a mod a few months ago to do a site requirement + the month. Something like OT's go to community after 1 month AND 20 pages. If a thread doesnt even make it to page 20, it hardly has any community to live from anyway and new bumps in the Gaming section usually deserve it.

Hey, Toma's still alive! A refresher: The year is 2013, America is an independent nation, England is our ally...

What are you talking about? MADNESS! The year is 1520 and Portugal is ruling over Brazil, while also having a foothold in Italy. And I dont see any fancy American country. (The demo ended. Otherwise, I'd still be playing :p)

Also: France are dicks.

Our biggest struggle right now is trying to find someone to do an OT for Unholy Heights. The demo is up now, and the game launches on the 16th, yet we can't get an OT done!

I'd love to post one myself but I can't! :(

As I said before:
To be honest a pre-release OT probably wouldnt do the game many favors due to the rather weak demo. I'll create a thread for it once it releases if no one else does by then, but everyone who'd be interested in the game for the demo thread, would also buy it once it releases fully and you'd get more impulse purchases. No need to believe me of course, but thats my humble advice after creating countless Indie threads here.

Just be patient :p Indies usually dont get prerelease OTs, and if they do, they more often than not die horribly so that no one is interested when the game actually launches.

That's a fair point. I'll keep that in mind. Budokai is in a meeting right now, but I'll chat with him when he's out and see what he thinks.

Finally got to listen to the MetaVendetta episode. Thanks for the shoutout guys :)

Great tracks, as always, but why have I not heard of Cosmic DJ yet?

That looks incredible and I was JUST thinking about wanting to play something like it on PC yesterday. :-o
They are apparently trying to hit a november/december release date.

Due to lack of time lately I made a small research to keep abreast and I have to say that upcoming weeks are gonna be hectic, with all those soon to be released titles, like Papers, Brothers, Gone Home, Skipping Stones, MirrorMoon, The Novelist, Dream, next KR0 and probably lots of others that will emerge out of the blue in the near future. Definitely the best time of the year for indies.

Dont really get the impression that there was ever a bad time for Indies in the past 1-2 years.

Agreed. But I'm not sure when the next episode of Kentucky Route Zero is actually going to be released. They originally said one episode every three months so that would mean we'd get the third one some time this month. But I checked their Twitter and someone asked about the third episode and they said, "in a few months." It was at the end of July when they said that so it may be awhile longer. :-(

Another awesome Desura game to recommend (and it hasn't even been Greenlit yet, that's why Desura rocks):

Constant C
Trailer | Site | Desura | Greenlight

Precision platforming and timing plus gravity and time manipulation and conversion of momentum = a lot of challenging brain bending puzzles

Gravity switching + time suspended = momentum manipulation
Over 100 mind-twisting levels. ***Warning*** May cause brain damage.
Light-hearted story with intriguing developments and an epic ending.
Cute characters with 2D skeleton animation
Mysterious atmosphere with beautiful lighting
Kickass soundtracks
Will be on MAC and Linux in near future.

What a bummer, I was expecting it to be released by the end of the month. Well, still tons of games on the horizon to fill the void.

Agreed. There are so many smaller releases that I am looking forward to this month alone.

Have to feel for the Guncraft guys...

firstly launching after yesterdays big hitters was a mistake IMO, then their page did not go live at release time, then they posted that Steam had a big server crash their end...

now their page has been pulled completely
