Grand Theft Auto Online: Official Gameplay Video, launches October 1st

I love open world games. I love crime fiction. Rockstar has never disappointed IMO and GTA is my favorite game series. I still play IV to this day so I really can't see how I won't absolutely adore V

But TLOU was the first game ever to get me emotionally invested in the characters and story

Ok, maybe I'm being premature and overhyped. But still...it's the biggest GTA yet.

You stated TLoU is better than GTAV's story...how would you know?

TLOU story really isn't that great. It's a pretty simple story with some predictable twists.

But what sets it apart is the production value, the amount of detail in the world is insane, this is what solidifies the story and makes people take it more seriously, the world tells the story.

GTA V's story could be better, and the detail is definitely insane but the amount of crazy shit you can do in the world will make it harder to take as serious.

That's my view anyway...for now.

This is exactly where i thought GTA would go after seeing what was done with GTA4 Multiplayer.

im not big on online multiplayer anymore but I am looking forward to checking it out.

No fucking way that footage was PS3 or Xbox 360. At one point in the video the player is weaving through so much traffic with high detail at 60 frames per second. Current gen consoles can barely do 60 frames and at way less deatil that what was shown here. Nope this is PC footage. PC annoucement soon then. 😎

The cool smiley is a wink that this post isn't serious. I hope.

I'm interested to know how you confirmed it's 60fps! And there are going to be some shocked-as-fuck crow-eaters when they get this shit home, insert it gingerly into their PS3's disc tray, and are met with the same visuals they previously relegated to PC-only. 😃

No, seriously. Games will always look better in trailers. This game will probably run in sub-HD with aliasing and a framerate somewhere between 20-28 fps.
That's what I'm expecting. And I couldn't care less as long as GTA V is fun as hell.

They're clearly not even similar in tone anyway, so the comparison is a weird one.

Plus in response to what that other dude said, it's pretty obvious that it's PS3 footage being played. I don't know if you think they're simply masking PC footage with PS3 overlays or what. They're close enough to release that it makes sense for them to show off true console footage. Plus, no preview thus far (reportedly all demoed on PS3s) has mentioned any lesser performance in-person.

i'm hoping with the mandatory game install that the game runs fairly well with minimum slow down.

but, once chaos is started, i'm sure it'll chug a bit.

that's ok though, i played through all of state of decay and that game had like 1% of the funds that R* has.

If it's coming out on PC I will be double dipping, if it's not then it is the single thing that will get me 3 more months of live. What a fantastic way to end the generation... and is it just me or did that travel airplane shot suggest they might be adding a city later on... that would be insane.

i'm glad it's launching in october, gives time to enjoy singleplayer and learn the mechanics. also that passive mode is great.

I can't wait to start working my way up through the ranks to Kingpin of the Grand Theft Auto world, like some sort of Heisenberg figure. It will be glorious.

Was reading through the thread

On TLOU vs GTA V:
Story wise, narrative wise, TLOU is the clear winner IMO

But pure gameplay, overall fun, and enjoyment that I'm going to have, I can't think any game beating GTA V for a long time

Are you a kotaku journalist by any chance? Seriously, get real man.

Imagine this on PC...with mods...

O_O

Make it happen R*...PC...PC...PC...!!!

Someone over at the GTAforums posted something interesting. The time between the GTA V Gameplay Video and the Multiplayer Gameplay reveal is greater than the time left for the game to be released.

Factor in Gamescom, and how that will probably keep our minds off of GTA V, and we're looking at getting our hands on GTA V pretty soon.

Persistent world online with customizing and missions and all that? Geeeeeeez, they're packing everything into this game. It sounds like a dream. It kind of sounds like The Division and the world will prob be way bigger lol.

OMFG how is this all possible in a single game?
$100+ million budget and developers that are the best of the best. Thank god for AAA gaming. This is more like a quad-A I guess, maybe even a penta.

I just realized I'm helping out with a trial the week the game comes out. Fuck.

Who needs next gen when we got this gem :O.
With all the games I've been playing lately and games still to come I'm honestly considering dropping everything I've pre-ordered for next gen.

There's more than enough coming out to satisfy for a good while. Am currently hooked on Dragon's Crown, got a new Splinter Cell and Saints Row releasing next week, Diablo 3 and GTA5 on the way soon enough.

Is this a stand alone game or the multiplayer part of GTA 5?

It comes with GTA V.

The multiplayer part of GTA V

It's an entirely different game. Rockstar have used the GTA V engine to build the game but see it as seperate from the game itself.

Three replies, three totally different answers and all are mostly right.

GTA Online is built on GTA V, you get it if you buy GTA V. However, while GTAV launches on September 17, GTA Online does not become available until October 1, with a small download. You need GTA V to play this game, reportedly, you will always need the disc in + the 8GB mandatory install that is standard for standalone GTAV.

The CVG GTA 5 O'clock guys reveal that the GTA Online universe is set as a prequel / before the events of GTA5. (minute 8:26 of the long preview video)

That's good, prevents story dissonance with characters who we've seen in the Online reveal and also in the SP (like Franklin's idiot friend), who may end up dying or becoming something else.

There are no A's involved.

It's R*

Reallly looking forward to this!! It looks leaps and bounds better than 4.

For those saying the chances of running into someone else with just 16 players on the map are slim. I'm thinking one way R* may have overcome this is to have some form of global event system in place.

For example, when you switch to the 4th player slot and activate GTA online, you will roam the world with the other 16 players and would be asked every so often if you would like to opt in to a random event (race, deathmatch, whatever) taking place in various locations around the map. For those that opt in, the game could then teleport you to the event location with the other players to play in the event. Once the events over, players would still be in the same location to do whatever. As long as you dont enter the next event.

Am i the only one who fucking can't believe this thing is running so smooth on a ps3\x360?
this looks incredible to me, i really want to try this game

The CVG GTAVOClock video should be in the OP and summarized since it's got a shit ton of info and I'm only at the 25 minute mark of an hour preview. Stuff so far, and maybe not mentioned yet...
  • The cash you earn from missions, bets etc is carried on you unless you deposit it in your bank account. Don't deposit your cash and getting jacked or killed by other players means they steal your loot.
  • NPCs respond to your voice or voice commands? Example given is that the player holding the gun and holding up a store, using his mic, demands the clerk to move faster and put the money in the bag which clerk does reacting to your command.
  • If you do perform the hold up taking on the most risk then you get to decide who gets a piece of loot. Stiff your friends though and they can kill you right there and steal the money or maybe they'll put a contract on your head and hire a hitman...
  • Little details but when the player was using his headset and the in-game smartphone to call his buddy in singleplayer to hop online, his avatar's lips were moving as if it was talking on the phone too.

That's because most devs don't know how to get the most of out consoles. we're finally seeing the full power of these consoles realized as this is the end of these consoles lifespans.

that means, trevor and franklin are the only ones we can see in gta online that would make sense... since michael is in witness protection, and doesn't get back into the game until the events of V

I pre-ordered based on the previous full trailer gameplay reveal. If the game looks like that on PS3 when it's finally released I'll be truly shocked. It looks too good for it to come to fruition.

Footage seems to be from the PS3 version:

OP, you may want to make it a *little more clear* that when clicking on the second youtube link that there's going to be nudity.

Nothing like loading up boobs at work.... great.

Well it does have nsfw in the URL

Rewatching the IGN Live broadcast.

I'm surprised at how much Rockstar has packed into this game.

It's surreal.

I wanna play tennis.

Yep, it really is just amazing. The ambition is beyond anything imo.

Golf > tennis, fact.
