Sony's Dig at Microsoft Thoughts ?

It was hilarious and not way over the top. They are just taking a dig here, a punch there, while keeping their cool and showing that they are moving with other stuff.

It would be annoying and childish if they were making a campaign out of it, but they aren't. It would be embarrassing if they were taking swings and not showing much for it.

Wish both would step it up. Love to see them go to war. Every change is great for the gamers.

I want MS of 2005 back. Dropping bombs all of the place and almost sinking the ps3. Roles have pulled a 180 since then..lol

I want MS to just throw money at rockstar and get GTAV as a launch title for xbone. That would have been awesome... but we get really nothing new. Maybe something at TGS...

Lots and lots of

Thanks for bringing me back to the day when rap was fun.

Completely appropriate given the circumstances. Microsoft ignored the core/early adopter and showed similar hubris to Sony at the ps3 launch. They should get verbal jabs aplenty Imo. Good on Microsoft to right the ship, but they only switched up when they ascertained nobody wanted to buy their box.

I thought it was ok, because by then Sony had shown the goods. If they had nothing to show for and all did was show the same 4 games over and over again, then take a shot at Microsoft for backtracking, that would have been desperation.

This was trolling after showing that they're not just sitting idle, and actually have a lot of momentum behind them (not just consumer support).

Let's get real: it was warranted because Microsoft has been being a bunch of butts lately. I still can't get over the fact that their controllers still take batteries.
But I mean... I gotta play dat Dead Rising 3 somehow! And Project Spark is actually really interesting to me... Fine! I'll let them slide but that doesn't mean Sony has to!

Whenever I read this, it makes me so sad... Is this how you want a company to win? Think of the mentality behind a monopolist company that buys markets like that and what that means to you as a consumer in the long term (i.e., once the competition is gone).

Maybe something at TGS...

Tier 2.

And FYI, MS *is* throwing money at a number of Japanese developers. Hope that makes you happy.

I haven't watched it but Sony could stand to do some backtracking of their own. The only thing keeping me from buying PS4 is paid online play. Reverse your greedy plans Sony.

Just Sony returning to form....arrogant and brash toward competition. They feel they have won already...its not a race but a marathon. How quickly people forget.

It was a desperate attempt to save a pathetic, god awful press conference. I'd rather go PC only instead of supporting one of those childish companies.
LOL at shit like this. It's a competition for marketshare, not some traditional debate society full of chivalry and honor. It was a single little milquetoast comment in a 90 minute presentation, anyway.

GAF is fucking nuts today.

It's exactly why I'm deciding to switch over to PS4 as my main console this generation. Microsoft can make all the changes they want, but they showed their true colors, and if they had it their way, wouldn't have made any of those changes. Sony was right in saying that they've had their vision set from day one, and I will support them, because it's a vision I've agreed with since day one.

They spoke the truth and it was kind of humorous in a dumb way.

It wasn't childish at all, xbone fans need to take a step back and calm down.

Because Microsoft has never done this.

Never. Especially ads against Apple. Nope. Nintendo has never done this as well.

OH WAIT

And that choice will pay off for sure

I thought it was kinda funny. Other industries do this all the time.

I'm actually impressed at the respect each manufacturer has for each other. It would take lots of resistance to literally compare every feature you have over the competition.

I think Microsoft wanted to let the people know their vision before get rid of it. When the time came, they weren't able to transmit the advantages of the ecosystem and the shitstorm began. Microsoft's only fault is to be out of touch with the gaming community, a mistake they are trying to correct. I really appreciate their efforts with the 180s, but it looks like i'm in the minority.

The 180's are not the result of "effort". They're the result of necessity. They had no choice. Their pre-order numbers had to be miserably low. So low they suddenly decided to include a copy of Fifa for Europe.

Also, their faults were plentiful, and ongoing. Their belief that Kinect is the next big thing is wildly misguided, and whoever is pushing it this hard behind the scenes is going to end up losing their job, because it's currently acting as an anchor around the neck of the entire Xbox division,

So perfect.

It was an important detail. My main point was that Sony wasn't acting like a real competitor by taking such an obvious, dare I say amateur, jab at the competition instead of letting their product and track record to speak for itself.

yeah... I got that the first time when you said they" should focus on the hardware and games and driving themselves to improve" instead of having a schoolyard fight. Your comment saying" neither was impressive" doesn't give your post any more additional meaning that i am missing
The rest of your post seems to be criticizing Sony for not mentioning that they don't have a clean record either, which I think is kinda silly and naive

When presenting to a consumer, its important that a company at least mentions their direct competitor....people love when companies pull small punches....remember the PC/Mac ads from apple.... or whatever Samsung is doing with their Ipad thing

i think its fine...especially since they arent too harsh about it

Here is the way I see it. They are basically telling MS to step it up. At least that's what it seems like to me. They have a good console and are willing to do what it takes to make it succeed. As for the policies? In my opinion they can say well we decided this since day one. I say BS. I don't think they had anything set day 1. If they did why not just say it day 1 instead of remaining quiet? I think they waited for MS to drop the hammer and to see what consumer reaction would be before they made a final decision. It's what I would do. As for MS I think they have gone past the point of no return on policies etc. They shot themselves in the foot with bad PR, backtracking, and just plain out doing it wrong. Whoever their PR guy is should be fired. As for the pot shots being given to them they are all well deserved.

Please leave out the condescending attitude and remarks, we'll get places without the taste of vile you're injecting into the conversation when you call someone's thought silly and naive.

When I said my point was, this was a preamble for the entire paragraph not the single sentence. May want to think about that when you read.

Again, they are acting like children in a schoolyard fight. Not like the top competitors in their field. Sony is bragging about something that is clearly not true (never 180ing, always having consumer choice first). I don't consider things that happened in this or previous generation to be irrelevant. My point about them not being impressive is directly tied to that point. This is what you missed. You think I am criticizing sony for not mentioning that they don't have a clean record. I assure you I am not and I don't know how you got that idea. I am criticizing them for bragging about something that is not true. "Bragging about track records when in reality you don't have a clean record yourself shouldn't be praised and shouldn't be done", is what I said.

I am in a profession where professionalism matters. It's important. So excuse me if I expect multi-billion dollar companies to consider it important as well. It muddies the bigger more important picture that should actually matter to consumers - which device is for them.

MS is taking pot-shots as well, how do you feel about that?

For Gamescom they should have just left it alone, felt like Andy was trying to get a repeat of that E3 magic back up there. Microsoft seems totally lost though, its like they thought the 360 would just be relevant forever, and they forgot how to make a console.

13 page thread on this? LOL

It was a small little dig at MS probably made in desperation. They saw how great the One is shaping up and they wanted to try to take the piss out of MS.

Unnecessary today. It was fun at E3 but the fact that Sony feels the need to make digs at their direct competition stinks of desperation - when they have no need to feel desperate. It's like Sega back at the PS2 launch. It just felt forced today and lacked the class I'd expect from Sony.

Sony has a strong offering - so why?

i don't see how is desperation if anything, the 180s are desperation and makes MSFT LOOK LIKE TOOLS.

if that is your direct competitor, you don't want people to forget what they tried to do " untrusty" microsoft.

IS BUSINESS BRO.. YOU SHOULDN'T GET EMOTIONS TOWARDS COPORATIONS.

MS had it coming. We knew it was coming as well.

They know they haven't won shit yet. You don't become arrogant unless you've won the most recent generation. Sony wont regenerate their arrogance meter until PS5's console reveal.

The ironic thing is that they helped cause all the policy reversals that made MS backtrack.

So they're basically laughing at having a stronger competitor than before who where forced to change in tune to the market. So MS now have a better product for it.

If MS doesn't go into 2nd place in US/UK as some predict considering pre-orders and keeps no.1 spot, then the last laugh will be on. . .

You don't become arrogant unless you've won the most recent generation.

I thought Sony and fans said they have won this gen (worldwide).

I think it was Idle Thumbs who first said this gen is starting to feel like a political race and I agree, and I have absolutely no interest in it.

I thought Sony and fans said they have won this gen (worldwide).

Well their library of first party titles ended up stronger (IMO) and they ended up maybe barely outselling 360 worldwide, but they didn't profit and they basically blew through all their PS1 and PS2 profit cash to ensure a blu-ray victory when most consumers are happy with DVD's or streaming movies. I don't think anyone at Sony sees the PS3 as an overall victorious console. They turned it around and it was a great system, but financially it was a disaster for Sony and nothing deserving of corporate arrogance.
