Sony's Dig at Microsoft Thoughts ?

Show me the games. Yes, MS has made some mistakes, but they are rectifying them (BEFORE launch mind you) so I think Sony is bragging about things that won't really matter once these consoles are released. What matters to me the most is that Sony shows me some truly compelling AAA quality exclusive titles outside of the couple they continue to show repeatedly at every conference.

It was fine because everything House said it's 100% true.

It also gives confidence that Sony won't try to do the DRM stuff with the PS5. I won't be so sure about Microsoft....

I haven't watched it but Sony could stand to do some backtracking of their own. The only thing keeping me from buying PS4 is paid online play. Reverse your greedy plans Sony.

Except it's not greedy? They've said the PS+ fee for multiplayer will go towards network infrastructure improvements and features, and with Gaikai coming and everyone complaining about PSN speeds and stability for years don't you think people want a better service? Would it be less greedy if they took PS+ money and did nothing?

It was fine when MS was the "bad" guy but now it feels kind of petty.
Bad guy?

Good guy?

Are we talking about Joffrey and Ned or something?

I'm confused.

Only reason Sony is so full of themselves is because of the mistakes of others. They have yet to prove that they've accomplished anything significant with PS4.

Really?, really dude?

Microsoft won't try anything again any time soon. Not until Sony is out of the picture.

If you want to see Microsoft reveal their true colors again, just wait until Sony quits the gaming market...

That was exactly what I was trying to say.

If the PS4 wins this gen, nothing bad will happen. If the X1 wins, the nextbox will try to push again this Always Online stuff.

I don't like it when companies act with such childish manners. They're pros and should act as such. Also, some dignity in general never hurts, not only for pros.
Whether it was Sega, MS or Sony doing it, I always found it cringe-worthy. Now that I think about it, I don't remember Nintendo going this low and I appreciate that.

But who is to say that when that time comes that things won't have progressed to what MS was trying to present? I am neither for or against it but who is to say that in the next 5 to 10 years things won't have progressed to that? Tech is constantly evolving and things are always changing. But it is not at all unlikely that it couldn't be brought to MS and Sony putting DRM into the PS5 and the next Xbox.

Indifferent to it but he had a point from a PR point. I highly doubt this is their attempt to stay relevant and they do this because they can't prove themselves in other areas like others have said though because that'd be quite ironic to say that in this thread about needless jabs.

Come on, we all know what public opinion on MS DRM/Indie game policy was very negative.

As it should have been. Dude there is no conspiracy to make Microsoft look bad. Microsoft ducked up and gamers turned against them. And they deserve every bit of hate they got/are getting.

It was a much more subtle jab at Microsoft than what they did at E3.

And they are right. Sony has been very clear about their vision for the PS4 ever since the reveal in February, while "some other" company has stumbled again and again since May.

Good for the fans that only buy the PS4, feels weird for me as I will buy both consoles.
It's unnecessary a second time.

Goddamn it, this is all fanboy shit. Has Sony confirmed dedicated servers for CoD or not? I care about real information more than pissing contests. I have a PS4 preordered and am hoping for dedicated servers for CoD.

I think its quite petty at this point. I don't see anything wrong with a company who is trying to right their wrongs.

But its competition, so cant really blame them.

Clever.

Smiling while raising the multiplayer paywall.

People whined and complained that PSN doesn't even come close to Xbox Live and they want Sony to improve it. How do you expect them to reach Xbox Live levels without the money to put into it.

Can't have it both ways.

That's your opinion. I would say that MS's choices at the beginning were not as 'evil' as some of you have tried to make them out to be, and was more of a case of it being too early and them simply getting ahead of themselves.

To say they deserve 'hate', especially at this stage after they've fixed most of their mistakes, instead shows how damn fanboyish some of you guys are about all this, getting loads of pleasure out of the MS hate instead of it coming from any reasonable consumer standpoint.

Competitor jabs occurs in our advertisement (microsoft vs. apple), sports (Knicks vs. Celtics), political news (Romney vs Obama.), etc. etc.

This is somehow an issue of professionalism now?

Just play chopsticks, people.

I have no problem with it. If Sony fucked up the PS4 roll out as much as MS did with the Xbone's, a day wouldn't go by with MS not making sure you're reminded of it. When Sony screw up, I fully expect MS to take advantage of it, and I wouldn't blame them one bit.

Anyone who doesn't like it or are calling it petty must be the same people who loved the shows when the first 40 minutes were nothing but sales bar charts.

I thought it was pretty funny. MS had it coming but at least they are trying to make good now. End of the day it will be all about dem games! Competition is good!

According to MS just the other day, the PS4 is really just PS3.5.

Another way to look at it is: Sony competed by offering online multiplayer for free. People didn't care and happily paid the online tax to Microsoft.

Sony saw this and thought "oh, so they're ok with this, heh? If MS can get away with it, so can we! We want some moneys too!"

For those who complain now. It's too late, you should have complained when MS started the extortion practice.

Erm, yes ? Excessive sport supporters are usually despised, and most of the world is shaking its head at the carnival of smear campaigns that plague US elections.

I'm sorry to say this, but you're wrong. Those choices were extremely evil and designed to get an unavoidable grip on the gaming market.

If anything, consumers should *not* be so quick to forgive them.

If things progress to that point naturally that would be fine. MS/Sony will probably move people to digital throughout this gen. MS tried forcing to much change all at once, that is one of the reasons they failed.

Objectively it was also honest and quite reserved so fairplay to sony.

I dont see hiw highlighting just how passionate and unwavering your company is comparee to others can be seen as weak.

Fanboys.

It didn't have the same impact as E3 obviously, but I saw nothing wrong with it. It wasn't nasty or immature. It's competitive business, and companies have been comparing themselves to each other since the dawn of advertising. Look at Coke and Pepsi, Microsoft and Apple. Larry Hryb took a jab at Sony's decision to not show the console at their reveal. So MS was actually the first company to start taking pot shots. Big whoop. As others have said, Sony is reiterating their strong position of clarity and vision since the reveal, whereas the competition has done nothing but waver over the past few months, which may cause some people to be wary of that platform's future.

You don't think it's worth being proud (and bragging a bit) about how your vision has remained steadfast as opposed to the competitor who has been sadly flopping about and just might keep doing so in the future because they're playing catchup?

For those of you saying Sony's paid-online was somehow a U-turn, they never promised PS4 would have free online.

They promised it for PS3 and PSV & you know what? They're keeping that promise. Only PS4 is requiring paid-online, not their older consoles.

On the issue of Sony's jab, it was fine. I personally don't like it, but it's not a bad thing.

If anything, my only issue is that I feel like House is not the right person to do a jab at competitors. He has this homely uncle look to him, lacks the swagger that Jack and Kaz had on-stage, and seeing him throwing a shot at competitors just doesn't fit his image.

Should have gotten someone else to do it, but I guess Europe is his home-turf and he can't leave it to someone else.

The dig was an attempt to erode the trust that MS have slowly started to build over the past few weeks. Completely justified imo.

I think it was a sure bet that Sony were going down the DRM road with all the stuff they were working on prior to the reveal...MS were simply the ones who were left holding their dicks in their hands while EA quietly backed away like nothing happened when the shit hit the fan with the public..all Sony did was not announce it.

im still waiting to see what EA has come up with now they dont have project $10 and no DRM on consoles...you all know its coming..EA would never leave money on the table

Agreed. In fact, "Flopping" just reminded me of politics. Politicians are called out all the time for flip-flopping. It's a common debate tactic to expose your opponent's inconsistency. If a candidate was against gay marriage for his entire political career, then all of a sudden turns pro-gay marriage when he decides to run for office, should his opponent not call attention to his flip-flopping? Should people so easily believe he has truly changed his beliefs and won't simply reverse stance once he gets in office? Sony are planting that same doubt about Microsoft. We've all seen MS' true intentions, despite the 180s. They're doing what they must to secure lost mind share, and thus market share. But, what would MS do if they were to gain a dominant market position? Such questions justify Sony's dig, and to remind people that Microsoft have proven to be willing to change policies on a whim.

One thing is clear to me: people here forgives Sony's decision to take away features from the PS3, the two jobs joke, the PSN hack, the poor support for indie devs in the PS3 early days... but won't forgive MS for the Xbone policies.

you seem to live in the past. It is 2013 you know. Xbo shitty policies are just 2 months old. But i guess even with those policies you had already choosen your side, just like those spaniards you feel ashamed of
