Battlefield 4 PS4 runs at 720p native [DICE: Incorrect]

As long as a game is 720+, I dont think it matters at all, assuming its a console game, with a viewing distance of about 9ft or greater, because you cant freaking tell.

Find one of the many side by side 720p v 1080p pics on the web, and then back up an additional foot, then another, soon, you cant tell.

For most 'couch' gamers, 1080p is a waste of your consoles power, 720p @60fps should be standard, and target.

It matters on PC cause you are usually 2ft from the screen.

Ok, continue with your lynching of DICE. ;)
You have no idea what you are talking about. Really, you don't.

I game from a 40" LCD and I sit a few feet away from the screen.

The difference between 1080p and 720p is clear as day.

Dude, your eyes still cant see 1080p vs 720p from where most people play console games.

We didn't all get new improved eyes in 2013. Dude.

Edit, try it, go to google images, search 720p v 1080p, take a couple steps back from your PC, the differences are nearly imperceptible. Then imagine it in motion, you can't tell.

I'm about 1.5 meters away from my 46" TV. The difference between 720p and 1080p is glaringly obvious.

I don't care whether people with tiny screens can't tell the difference, I can.

I imagine there's more to compute for the CPU than just the player models themselves.

Yeah, my point is that that load isn't going up and down linearly (or at all) with resolution.

Pointing at the CPU if the game is 60fps is pointing at the wrong place. Turning down resolution wouldn't affect the CPU load/improve its frame time.

What's the big fucking deal? People are too hung up on resolutions and graphics these days.

One is displayed pixel-perfect on a 1080p display while the other has blurry upscaled graphics. For me it's not even that much about the resolution itself but about the added scaling - I prefer my graphics sharp and I really expect the new generation of consoles to do away with sub-1080p output.

Thanks to this games resolution, I have lost all interest I had in this game.

I was really looking forward to BF4 - moreso than any other 'next-gen' game. But if they can't get something as simple as the resolution right then there is no way I will part with my money with this company.

Hmmm what company Sony ?

Cause if you mean EA, they are forced to work with what they are given, it's like whining about the wii u not being able to play crysis 3 at max settings.

It was pretty damn obvious it would be 720p when Killzone was announced to be 1080p 30FPS. People just jumped to conclusions unfortunately.

Click on the source. I'm just delivering a message. Nothing more, nothing less.

I only defended consoles against users who said that PS4 will be using low-end hardware. I never claimed that PS4 will beat high-end PCs. I did the contrary by saying that PC will always be ahead of consoles and always was ahead of consoles.

I agree that 720p is not acceptable in 2013, but this decision was made by DICE. There are many other next gen games that choose decent image quality over eye candy.

Fair enough.

This doesn't affect me directly since I don't play FPS's on consoles, but I still think it sucks big time. The difference between 720p and 1080p is really large, especially for games like Battlefield with big maps and large draw distances. Using such a low resolution makes games really blurry and thus prevents from seeing things in the distance clearly.

On another note, how do you people manage to play games comfortably from 3+ metres away? Do you all own projectors/50+" screens? If I sit more than 1/1.5m away from my 37" tv I always feel like moving closer because I can't concentrate at all on what I'm doing.

Oh well, does not really bother me, the AA will be better then last gen plus all the other smoothing out tricks, it will still look great .

I dont know how much difference 1080p makes on my tv I remember switching between 720p and 1080p on resi 5 on my 360 to avoid screen tearing and it look exactly the same.Although wipeout HD is one of the best games this gen for me because there is not a jaggie in sight, maybe this is showing me the true power of 1080p?

7870 can do V.High BF3 @ 1080p60 without MSAA, and lightweight PS4 API will give its GPU even more power.

I really dont see the reason for 720p on consoles. Forcing "ultra" present that cuts framerate in half only to be mudded with low res&upscaling makes no sense to me.

Yay native HD ready resolution...
Is this nextgen or what?
Whatever, kz will be full HD and 60fps, so it is possible(if you're good...)
Shameful for the monstrously big company ea

You mean that 30-40 fps footage they've released that has 5 characters on screen in small environments without almost any environmental physics?

BF 4 is doing everything KZ:SF is doing technologically except for screen space reflection on every surface, but they have dynamic GI instead [which is cheaper though]. And thats on much greater scale, with much more particles and much more players and from the tweet in rock solid 60fps, so i wouldnt call DICE bad developer by any means.

Still i hoped at least for 1280x1080 on PS4 in similar fashion to GT 5/6. It also means that BF 4 will have higher requirements than BF 3 by quite a notch on ultra/high settings [not counting MSAA] on PC.

If a few = 3-4 ft as it should, then yes, its going to show, most people are 9-10ft away...you got dat robot eyezzzzz i guess.

Maybe your LCD tv sucks? My 1080 lcd always looks worse to me than my 720p panny plasma...all hail the old school Viera.

well, Im done in this thread, and Driveclub threads, cause I value my sanity. enjoy playing PC games on your cross fired titans at 3 inch viewing yall :) (I kid, this isn't an emotional topic for me like some of you)

I am still surprised why the hell people still buy EA and Activision games. They can sell you whatever the hell they want. Their games were never groundbreaking. (Unless you are the kind of gamer that only cares about multiplayer, which I am not)

Sure it does.

http://chipreviews.com/main-feature/main-news/battlefield-3-revisited/

Shows that the game is able to use a ton of CPU power even with the more powerful, overclocked CPU's. Not only is it a bottleneck for the lesser CPU's, but the resolution played at still matters plenty. Higher resolutions might not be capable of the 60fps, while lowering the resolution makes the bottleneck less of an issue.

Child, please.

We know the specs of the PS4. We draw a rough comparison with a PC. If the PC version can run it, then the 'closed box' PS4 should run it too.

Besides, every other game seems to be confirmed at 1080p. It's a shame really. Also, it appears the resolution is not CPU dependent - it's the GPU which is wholly responsible for this task.

I have my gaming setup in my bedroom on a 46" 1080p TV.

I sit 4-5' from the screen so I can easily tell the difference between 1080p and 720p.
I thought I was done with the blurry age of gaming.

Thanks EA.

I'm amazed that the people who keep shouting all the '60 FPS' nonsense are ok with a game running at 720p. A resolution that low on a large 1080p TV is far more detrimental to the gaming experience than 30FPS.

This is something DICE could change very quickly if they wanted to.

Maybe they'll just turn some of the effects down and up the resolution. Or not.

First The order 1886 skipping 1080p
Now BF4 hope cod:Ghost is 1080p.

Mad respect for Guerrilla if they can hit the fixed 60fps target..

Yes, I could get this game on PC and enjoy it at 1080p, but I hate playing games with a mouse and keyboard. This sucks.

I think I'm done getting angry at this shit and accept that I've official stepped over into the twilight zone. Instead of getting angry I'm just gonna laugh, laugh, laugh away at folks like this because I might lose my sanity if I don't.

No other game looks nearly as good and is doing as many things at the same time.

Do you not get headache that close to the TV? I play like 4 meters away from mine. Anything less than 2 and my eyes and head start to hurt after a while.

Yeah. Some months ago I was a vocal supporter of the "720p is enough and that's all next gen will give us" movement. Then I got back into PC gaming. Bioshock Infinite at 720p vs. 1080p opened my eyes. 720p is shit, no matter what. Not only for big screens, for every single one. Cause there are no 720p panels. It's either 1280x768 or x766 or x1024 but it's never truly 1:1. And it shows. After experiencing the clarity of a 1080p signal on a 1080p display I don't want to go back ever again. Games already become blurry because of AA and upscaling just makes it worse. And to think most people have overscan on their TV, making it even worse ...

I expected more after they said 1080p but 720p still looks sharp enough on a TV.

If it's going to be 720 then it better be a stable 60.
