VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

There are IPS LCD screens that are better than an OLED, at least certain ones like what the iPhone 5 uses. Also, not all OLEDs are equal.

Oled screens of equal ppi/resolution are better hands down than lcd screens, ips included. People shouldn't compare retina screens to vita screens without taking into account resolution.

hnnnng wat do wat do

that sounds too reasonable. I can't follow your advice.

The screen is terrible when you are outside or if there is any direct sunlight. That has more to do with how they positioned the screen inside than the OLED itself though.

It's not just resolution, it's colour accuracy, contrast, viewing angles, colour shifting, etc.

There are many kinds of LCD screens(IPS, MVA, TN) and OLEDs(AMOLED, SAMOLED, POLED). Even comparing top end mobile screens from both sides, IPS can be much better.

with that question I was referring to just the psvita screen. I'm asking this since I'm not really sure which version I should buy. I couldn't care less of the battery or the 1GB memory if the screen is worse.

oh crap I wonder if I should be in a rush to get the OLED one...?

I would try to find a white model. Dat OLED doe.

I still like the original PSP in terms of form factor, even though the screen was ass and all the moving parts broke in a matter of months. I'm kind of glad the OLED Vita stuck to a similar design.

It's probably a good thing that they're doing this though, for similar reasons. Soon everyone will forget the old model and jump on board if the games stop flowing and it'll be great, but I would definitely miss the build quality.

I still can't get over the 1GB internal memory. Why not just keep throwing in a 4GB card like they had been doing on all the other hardware bundles?

I like that they're using micro USB instead of that silly proprietary connector, but I rather have the OLED screen. I don't think the Vita would be the same without it, and pretty soon, you won't have a choice but to forget about the old model when they're no longer on the market.

Matte > gloss
It's not matte. The official images are very deceiving. Look at the photos on Engadget. The thing is a cheap glossy plastic, not the nice coated surface of the original Vita (that finish has be reduced to just the screen, marked out by that frame). The rest of the body is in a poorer quality glossy plastic, very much like the step down from the PSP-1000 to the 2000.

I'll probably get one for a different color. And to reserve my OLED one as much as I can and use the new one as my main playing system.

Usually the newer model becomes my collectors system and the older one becomes the main playing system. It's the other way around!

Considerably better design compared to the old PSVITA

What? The OG Vita has a one piece acrylic faceplate that seamlessly covers the entire front of the device. Looks premium as hell.

The new one is simple plastic on the sides of the screen and the screen itself has an awful, visible bezel. Plus it loses the chrome rings around the analog sticks, the textured areas around the buttons/Dpad, the chrome accent around the perimeter, the metallic iPhone 4 like buttons and the back touch pad appears to have dropped the cross, circle, square and triangle pattern. The new Vita almost reminds me of the PSP E1000.

onebthing i like is the nonproprietary charger. possibly you can use a usb charging brick now when u had to buy the official one before. also does that mean no more having to use the media content app to move files or is that still in effect?

Wasn't the Vita's OLED not even the cool upscale AMOLED or Super OLED or whatever, just like the basic plain kind? Was it a pentile screen? And how bright does that OLED get because I'll take my super bright quality IPS iPhone 5 type LCD screen over the much dimmer pentile S4 Galaxy AMOLED screen ANY day of the week all sizes being equal (which they are in this case). And my iPhone has better more natural colors to boot. OLED is vivid but not naturally so and not always better. So it's not bad just because its LCD.

That aside, it does look less premium. Not a surprise really. Sony tends to come out with the balls out premium launch hardware and then cheapen it for cost savings on the redesigns. Every redesign they have ever done except for the PSone seemed inferior to the premium originals. PS2. PS3. PS3 again. PS3 yet again. Now Vita. That said the regular Slim was my overall choice of the PS3 gen with the added consideration of noise. Plus this new Vita is certainly not the downgrade the PS3 super slim was by any means - Dat fisher price sliding door :-)

I would say I would take some real gorilla glass protecting that screen over any of the Vita's redesign points including the new LCD switch.

Are there any comparison shots out yet? If the price is considerably lower I'll probably pick up the re-design, but if it's not that big of a price difference then I'd get the OG, assuming I've decided whether or not I want a psvita yet.

This right here.

Dammit I may need to buy a second Original Vita to preserve my White one.

Well, damn I really am getting the OG model then. I got the PSP 2000 when I lost my 1000 model and it indeed felt like a downground in material build quality with it's cheaper lighter glossy plastic. The 1000 really felt elegant and expensive.

Too bad about losing OLED, but I bet the price point it allows will move units for the average consumer.

And lol at all the grieving over how few games can fit on 1 gig, that is not the intended use of that storage space. This was a big issue when the first one released, you needed a card for game saves. Not having at least a 4 gig in the box meant the device was worthless without that additional purchase.

Obviously for those that buy full DD games it is intended that you invest in a card.

I saw one post in this thread do just that already. Got to say the old one was better looking by far. My heart would want the original but my head says I won't be looking it up and down anyway. As the smaller size, longer lasting battery, and LCD might be better.

Thats another option.

But I feel like the Vita TV is cutting out ALOT of incompatible titles.

Right, I forgot about the touchscreen and rear touch pad. We should get a list going of touch required/heavy/recommended games. Just to see if a Vita TV is worth it.
