VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

From recent memory, Nexus S was updated to SC-LCD from SAMOLED in some markets. Here is a video comparing the two in action. It might help as a reference:

Now, LCD technology has improved since then so the differences might be less pronounced.

In any case, I will be at TGS this year so I will get to check the new Vita in action. I need to find an OG Vita for reference. I don't think there is a need to rush since the new Vita will be released on October 10 in Japan. Wonder if they will do discounts on the OG Vita...

wonder who is supplying the screen.

This entire thread cracks me up. First you have everyone complaining about the splotching and burn-in on OLED screens, then they switch to LCD and everyone begins to throw a shitfit saying the OLED is the only reason to have a Vita.

I don't even know what to think of all that.

Holy generalization Batman

I have a sneaking suspicion those were 2 separate groups of people.

I love the oled but am afraid of splotching and burn-in.

Does that make sense?

So you're saying that since the OG Vita is still for sale, both sides should be happy? Yet the vast majority of what you see from reading this thread are complaints.

No, I'm pretty sure the overlap between the two groups is high. This is GAF. If there wasn't a huge amount of nitpicking over the tiniest of issues, it wouldn't be GAF (or the internet).

wonder who is supplying the screen.

In the case of Nexus S, I believe both the SAMOLED (Pentile) and SC-LCD were by Samsung.

In the case of Vita, the AMOLED screen was supplied by Samsung.

But yeah, wonder who would do the new LCD. Wonder if they would use IGZO or just Super LCD.

From Wikipedia:

Some manufactures had moved back to SLCD displays because of the expense and lack of production capacity of AMOLED displays. SLCD screens have remained popular as power consumption is comparably lower when displaying lighter colours such as the white background found on most internet pages. While AMOLED technology generally displays darker blacks and truer colours making videos and images appear clearer and more vibrant, SLCD technology avoids the need for pentile subpixel formations (which use a larger shared blue subpixel to avoid fading over time) and thus creates sharper detail making text appear clearer.

I'd kill for the 2000 model redesign with OLED. It looks a lot nicer than the OG layout.

But that'll never happen.

Maybe you'll be able to hack it in there like the GBA SP 101 backlit screen into the original unlit GBA shell.

man not sure if anyone posted this but Vita 2.0 has a smaller rear touchpad?
someone on Reddit posted comparisons!
Looks like the rear touch area has become smaller to accommodate the wider finger grips - no longer properly representing the size of the screen... could be a problem with Tearaway?
:P

But I guess it makes sense. There have been occasions there the natural grip on the back of my Vita interferes with some kind of rear touch input.

Sign me up for the blue or green model. They all look gorgeous.

In regards to the 1GB of memory included, would you lose access to that once you add a memory card?

The 12GB PS3 deactivates that memory once you put in your own HDD.

I really like that the new models seem to be matt instead of glossy. having fingerprints all over the vita after every gaming session sucks.
other than that I don't see a real benefit to the original vita, so I will stick with that.

It's not matte.

This needs to be the thread title.

Too many LCD haters here. Has anybody seen an LCD screen on an HTC One? That screen destroys the Vita OLED. If Sony puts a nice LCD in there, I don't think it will affect quality at all. Plus LCD won't have the long term issues OLED will have.
No, it does not "destroy" the Vita OLED, unless you mean burn-in and longevity only.
And also, you see, the thing is that you won't a good LCD like that on the Vita 2000. All the PSP screens were pretty much shit, as were the screens of most recent Xperia phones (including the flagship Z/ZL).

if the new vita is smaller rear pad, then I think it's a good decision, give more space to hold Vita without accidentally triggering the rear pad

Some shots with the dock, $20:

I love that tiny dock, though it doesn't look as premium as the OG Vita dock. Which I guess mirrors that of the difference between the systems themselves. I mean, the Vita looks pretty decent in that picture there, but all of the real shots we've seen look pretty bad. Doesn't have the nice full acrylic overlay the OG Vita has over the front of the device.

Someone needs to get up in that shop's display kiosk and take some nice video so we can see what the hell is going on with the new screen. Anyone with the know how find anything on japanese video sites?

The only thing wrong with the OG vita is the select and start buttons, too hard to press being flush with the front face. LCD is a huge step down.

I don't even know what to think of all that.

The solution is a Vita with an HDMI port and no screen, so people can plug whatever they want... oh wait.

A little off topic but I posted this question in another Vita thread but no response. I just received a Vita today and the previous owner still has his account tied to it. Is there anyway to factory reset the Vita so it can unlink the user's account or do I need to get his username & password to factory reset it via menu?

check his messages and photos first.

You are kidding, right?

Personally, while the Vita TV I think is a great Idea, the Vita 2.0 is truly something dreamt up in the buttocks of sony. Who exactly is going to buy this thing at exactly the same price as the superior model? Not to mention it's phasing out the better model. Ok so it's not worse in every way, but it's certainly on average going to be no more (an probably less) enticing than the current Vita to the average consumer.

What makes you sure about that? Photos and videos show that this LCD is well above recent Xperia phones.

Open up the settings menu (green+white toolbox icon) and thumb down to format. 2nd to last option.

Depends on your definition of superior. Inaccurate colors, Mura, Burn in, with a much more finite life span. I'm not saying I don't love my OG Vita, but I'm definitely debating picking up a new one. Something about a screen that will last 20 years+ vs a screen that will last 8-10. I think the half life of the blue color will drop out around 5~ years of constant use but I could be wrong. 1GB of storage, slimmer, lighter, and better start/select buttons. The screen does not look as bad as people were making it out to be, and I will make a final determination once these come overseas and I can see them in person.

Doubt the average consumer will even notice. They just want games and a low price. Sony gets higher margins.
