Why am I watching a video of a video
That would be a cool idea if Masterson were healthy. But, you don't throw a guy with an oblique issue out there in the fire.
In the end, you have to ride the horse that got you there. The Indians have managed to do okay with bad closers in the past (Borowski and Wickman (late in his career) when they came in during crunch time.
It's a shame Pestano turned into a broken toy. Would have been awesome to have the 2011-2012 version of him right now.
Saying your healthy and being healthy are two different things (see: RGIII)
Oblique issues for pitchers traditionally take 4-8 weeks to heal. Masterson hasn't even been out a full month yet.
After much talking, Nats done: Until the Braves finally wrested the division title from the 2012 champion Washington, the Nats wouldnt stop talking about how they believed they were better than the Braves, even though Atlanta went 13-6 with a 2.22 ERA against them this season. Seriously, they wouldnt stop talking.
-- Mid-April and Braves sweep Nationals in D.C. to go 3 ½ up in NL East:
Infielder Danny Espinosa on April 13 after a 3-1 Braves victory: "Theyre good, I dont think theyre better than us. Theyre a good ballclub, they have talent. Theyre hot right now, they only lost one game, but theyre hot. It all evens out."
Espinosa after 9-0 Braves victory on April 14 to sweep the series: "I still dont think that theyre better than us. Theyre hot right now. Theyve come back on some people, theyre playing well, it doesnt last forever so Im not worried about it."
Before Nationals come to Atlanta on April 28 for three-game series, with Braves up by 2 ½ games:
Pitcher Jordan Zimmermann: "Obviously, we want to go in there and take care of business. They came [to Nationals Park] and pretty much embarrassed us. We didn't play very well that series. We feel we are playing pretty good ball right now. We'll go down there and try to win as many ballgames as we can and win the series down there. We can try to sweep them at their place and send a message that we are a lot better than we showed [at Nationals Park]."
Outfielder Jayson Werth: "They were hot. They were on a roll. We weren't playing real well. That happens sometimes. That's why you play each other 18 times in the division. At the end of the year, whoever has the best record wins the division. We have a long way to go, a lot of games to play and we'll be all right."
May 2 after teams split four games at Turner Field and Braves remain 2 ½ games up:
Pitcher Gio Gonzalez: Were off to a slow start. Once we turn it around its going to be a big change.
On Tuesday July 9, before All-Star game, Braves lead by 6:
Outfielder Bryce Harper: Its going to go down to the wire. The Phillies are playing good and the Braves have played well all year. Were playing pretty good, too. Were lucky to be at .500 right now, but weve got a great team and were expecting to be right there at the end.
On Wednesday July 31, the Braves lead by 11 with 54 games to go:
Harper: We need to get going and play better, hit better, have better ABs in certain situations and pitch better also. Its just something we need to do. We play the Braves nine games. This [expletive] aint over. I really dont think its over. We just got to keep going, keep grinding and turn into the family that we were last year.
On Sept. 15 with Braves up 10 games and 13 to play before Braves visit for final series:
Manager Davey Johnson: We played them a lot of close games, but we didnt hold our own with em. And we need to at least send a message to them these next three days that were better than them.
