Wii U Firmware Update is live everywhere. Everyone calm down.

People complain about the ps3 updates, this is taking forever. Over an hour to download, going on 40 minutes for install.

It's completely doable. If the system can in any way act/react to the buttons pressed on the system (and it does, it pulls up a warning about the games requiring a controller) it would be very easy to hook those calls to a CC equivalent button.

This was done intentionally, but who knows for what reason. Maybe lack of testing? Unforeseen compatibility issue? Or maybe they are waiting to enable it for some reason. Who knows?
Who says that the console produces the warning screen? Pretty sure it's the GamePad itself. Because it isn't just a dumb terminal at all - it does have its own CPU, graphics chip (with overlay function), RAM and firmware. The Wii U most likely doesn't even know the warning is pulled up.

You must have horrible connection, most people talked about how quick it was for them to install

Wii games look really nice on the pad but Nintendo's going to have to add an option in a future update to have separate remote profiles for the Wii U and Wii. My sensor bar is below my TV and switching back and forth is not a painless process >_<

A Wonderful 101 picture. I don't think I'll be posting images in Miiverse anymore.

I still like miiverse to help others and it's quicker to post images, so if I'm notsomuch concerned with the quality of the image, more of the content, I'll probably still use Miiverse.

Alternatively the system can update automatically when it is turned off (provided you enabled the option) and you could just open it up in the morning already downloaded.

wii mode also outputs as normal 2 channel through hdmi as opposed to an hdmi amp recognising it as 5.1 lock so Dolby pro logic 2 should now be back a thing for Wii games

Ugh, stop posting WWHD screens. I don't play Zelda games, but you guys are going to force me to get it.

Edit: OS speed is definitely improved for me, especially the Friends List.

I'm not sure I understand the whole Wii-soft on Gamepad thingy...

So Xenoblade on my Gamepad is getting closer but not yet? They didn't managed to emulate the Gamepad to a CCP yet, but I can play with a Wiimote+CCP with the Gamepad as the screen only, right?

Sorry for the questions, I'm at my job and can't test anything atm. :(

wii mode seems to be fullscreen now too, before there was a slight border allowing for overscan

This is great, great news btw. Them black bars were so noticeable for me.

for playing wii games, you can use your gamepad as a tiny portable tv with a built in sensor bar. That is all. You can't use the gamepad controls as a classic controller or anything like that.

Awesome, haven't seen anyone mention that yet so I was unsure if we did get any speed improvements or not. Currently at 80% of install, so I can soon find out for myself. The wii games is pretty cool although somewhat limited. I think I may still find a use for it though.

I'm a fan of the screenshot mechanic. Very modern.

if you wanted to wii sports, yea, it is a hassle. the games where you can control while resting your hands (which are the ones that people would care about anyways) wouldn't require much more work to someone with a setup wii u besides having to rest the controller while playing.

It's good that you can make it work; I would rather not, unfortunately. I hope Nintendo finds a way to make the Gamepad controls emulate the classic controller by the time I purchase a Wii U.

Yes. It's not about not managing it, it would be a really simple task to hook the gamepad's input and flip a couple spots in the Wii's memory to say "CC pad is connected on controller 1". This seems intentional for some reason.

What's this split audio/video thing?

It used to be that if you used HDMI out for video, you had to use HDMI out for audio. This update allows you to use HDMI out for video and use one of the other cables for audio.

YES.

It doesnt allow for gamepad controls, but it works like a TV with inbuilt IR sensor.

Launching the browser now seems to launch a cached version of the page you were on previously, so it makes launch speed even faster (browser was already one of the fastest programs on the Wii U).

My browser always loaded all the tabs I had up the last time I used it. I don't think this is a new feature unless I'm misunderstanding (very possible lol).

So it's really getting closer, alright!

Nice improvements from Nintendo. I'll download this update as soon as I get home! :D

For those curious and haven't tried it yet, yes you can post images directly to facebook from the Wii U now as well. In fact, it should literally work anywhere that allows for file uploads.

But that's the thing. How much better would this all be if they just had some type of online imagehosting/pinterest/tumblr that you just uploaded your pictures to at the system level. Even with the original Wii, Nitendo seemed to embrace picttures with the Photo Channel. All I'm saying that it'd be forward thinking of them to do something like Steam's solution, get more people using the feature, and maybe even get them some extra buzz on Social media sites.

Well... They had trouble with their servers when they released Flipnote 3D in Japan... A service like this would need a contract with another company or something, because Nintendo don't have the server for this...

This game, this feature is so damn good *.*

Am I the only one thinking it's very funny that a game from the GC era with just modern shaders added looks as beautiful (or even more in many cases) as the vast majority of current and near release games (all platforms, not just Nintendo ones) :O

The update is finally installed and all that good stuff. Loading games and apps is much snappier now; Even more so, returning to the Wii U Menu is a breeze. Settings still drags a bit, but it's not the snooze fest that it was previously.

I read people noticing new eShop music, but it sounds the same to me.
Only Europe get the new snazzy musak. :(

Two other small details I've noticed:

- Downloads have a small, fancy "x MB / y MB" status thingy now.
- Icons for newly downloaded software have a flashing blue border.
That border was always there for newly downloaded software. :S

Confirmed! The friend list does not require friend code-like registering of each other anymore and lets you send real friend requests.
That is really something I thought they wouldn't change. o-o Color me surprised. (I'm really wondering what is that color...)

Best thing about this for me is the ability to view PDFs with the browser. I've got loads of them on my PC I've been meaning to get through for a while. Nice!

Ohh.

I'll have to try this out for the U then. PS3 allows this and it doesn't work as well as it should. Pretty disappointed when I got some HDMI cables on that thing.

I was playing with the OS a lot earlier. It's definitely much faster. The longest load screen was when I exited Netflix; otherwise it was down to under 8 seconds which is much better. Quitting out of the friends list was near instanteous which was a surprise. I'm just now reading this thread finding about the screenshot function working outside of Miiverse and a chat function. Sounds good. I'm glad Nintendo is doing this stuff.

People with problems on netflix: just open the wii u menu and delete your netflix app and save data. Actually, you just need to delete netflix save data and redownload the app or start it over.

It works!

I hope this update makes firmware updates download faster, mine has been going for almost 20 minutes now :/
