RUMOUR: Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p, PS4 version is 1080p?

I think CoD Ghosts looks damn good, and I personally prefer 720p over 1080p.

That comment is silly.

The only way I prefer a lower resolution over a higher resolution is if I can't get smooth gameplay with the higher resolution. But certain NOT because of the visual aspects.

I see no evidence the ps4 game is 1080p. Is there?
IGN tweet I guess.

Edit - I found it.

They ALL do it. Ever read the responses from both Sony and Nintendo when the results come in for NPD sales?

Nonsense.

Sony, nor Nintendo, have ever had a clear case of bullshit that this Xbone release/DRM/180 fiasco has been. All while saying every single thing that was an issue, was a good thing, and that consumers didn't know what they were talking about.

2 jobs to buy a ps3 is one thing, hyperbolic even, and its on a very very short list. The entire launch has been lol worthy. From all the Major Nelson dodges, to this. God is it gloriously hilarious.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
I only play about the same amount of titles per year myself.

The sting will be in the 3rd party and 1st party Sony games being considerably better than XBone's considering the 50% performance difference. However if your preferences are for MS exclusives then your decision is made.

yeah, they are, kind of. again, i could swap forza for gt fairly painlessly, but will have to wait and see how titanfall (cod with parkor and mechs?) and destiny (halo MP but with weapons you have to grind solo for?) turn out.

wish i could predict the future. if x1 can match a ps4 game, say a 3rd party like dirt 4, in virtually every way but resolution (720p vs 1080p) i'm ok with that as i'm not as eagle eyed at spotting that. though if the games in addition to or instead of lower res ALSO drop key graphical features (frame rate, lighting, shadows, etc) i might regret this choice.

You don't have to defend your preferences at all here Ivy. I completely understand where your coming from. Halo is my favorite fps as well but I think I am going to wait to pick up a X1 till 5 comes out.

thanks. sometimes i feel like with my tage (earned way back before gears 1 launched AND for calling it out for being downgraded from tech demos!) i get unfairly singled out as being a mindless xbot. i am an xbot, but its for the games i love. i recognize the obvious when there are power differences (and now price differences too!)

That is...an opinion, I guess.

I sort of know what you mean, as I used to stick with Nintendo so tight I refused to buy a PS2 and instead went GameCube. It was a big mistake. You live and learn.

That doesn't make much sense at all. You are acting like the same exact experience will be shared with the PS4 and XBox One, that won't be the case and neither will all the games be the same titles.

Nonsense.

What's nonsense is suggesting any of the big 3 don't spin things into a positive. Microsoft has just had a lot more spinning to do over the XBox One.

IGN said it was, and they've been hands on with the game capturing footage from it. They could be wrong, lord knows they have been before, but they got to see their footage before they compressed the shit out of it, so I'd hope they wouldn't make such a huge error if it isn't 1080p on PS4.

That's the point I'm trying to make. I want to get an Xbox One because that's what I want. That's it. If I got a PS4 instead, I wouldn't see it as saving myself $100. I'd see it as not getting what I want.

That's awesome then. Who cares what anyone else thinks. It's your money man. If you get enjoyment out of what you buy that's all that matters. For me personally, first party titles and exclusives aren't released enough for me to decide a system based on that. I go where third party titles perform the best. I happen to love both systems first party titles though, so there is that.

I imagine if someone hates Sony's first party titles it would be a different perspective. Anyways, much respect on your choice.

Man, if Xbone can't even push this game at 720P with the PS4 1080P footage looking like crumpled ass, that'll be some serious shit. Word travels so fast.

That non answer posted a little while back is kinda leading me to believe that the rumor is true.

Is the COD fanbase honestly going to care?

A lot of the people buying the console at launch will be hardcore gamers and quite a few of them will probably care and their friends(including the CoD fanbase) will follow them to whatever console they buy in a year or two.

Did you like Halo 4? Do you like the direction 343 is taking that series?

Because I thought multiplayer was pretty naff...

I'm curious how many gaffers will genuinely be switching from XB1 to PS4 because of this. Really can't underestimate how many people this could piss off.

Wow, just days ago he wants a list of 1080p launch games, he asks on twitter ffs. Now he doesn't want to talk about resolutions and wants you to judge for yourself.

Does he even realize how ridiculous those two tweets sound back to back?

Shocking news. Yet people defend him.

Wow, two threads that go on endlessly for a CoD sequel? What nonsen--

"Call of Duty: Ghosts is 720p on Xbox One."

...How do you drop that ball? Like, really; CoD? The game that's STILL running on an enhanced IdTech engine?! Pleaaaaaase.

Shame for X1; CoD's their smoking gun. Though, I really doubt the demographic of X1/CoD cares about resolution.

I don't think it'll have a large impact unless Sony pushes their multiplatform games as the superior version. Although differences in resolution, framerate, etc will definitely influence the hardcore crowd.

I think they are already pushing their hardware potential for multiplatform games. I think Yoshida even said on twitter not all devs would hold back their games for XBO.

But I don't think they can say "CALL OF DUTY: 1080P ONLY ON PS4." Marketing deals with Microsoft and whatnot.

The game will sell best on the 360, PS3, PS4 and XB1 in that order I imagine. The latter two, because I currently expect the PS4 to outsell the XB1 due to price and availability.

Regarding hardware, I think it speaks to the relative difficulty of the XB1's memory subsystem. Given more time I'm sure they could get a 1080p60 XB1 SKU.

Yeah, I have no doubt they could get it to 1080p. Just not in as timely a fashion as a launch window demands. I expect a few launch games on XBO will be like this, actually (and perhaps even a few on PS4).

You make good points and I actually agree with all of them. Especially considering how COD is typically a game casuals pick up. The main problem I have with this is about future third party games. If COD, a launch title that doesn't even look good, can only run at 720p than I fear for what the next few years holds for us. On the other hand, as time goes on, developers will gain a better understanding of the system and learn how to use the resources in a more efficient way.

I wouldn't be as concerned about that... I'm sure this is about the amount of time the dev can have to optimize this thing when it's only weeks out from release now. Since XBO environment is more complex and causes issues due to its memory set up, games will require more development time to reach parity with PS4 version or even to run more stable in general.

Ok let me try to get something like a non-gif conversation going here.

What WOULD be the implications of Call of Duty: Ghosts being 720p on Xbox One, but 1080p on PS4?

Things to discuss ->

● Would there be any long term effect in sales? I personally don't think so - the cards are already set for which system will do better in the first half dozen months. It's what happens when the truly big guns start coming that will matter, not a cross gen game like this.

● Would most potential consumers even care or notice? I don't believe if they walked up into a store and saw the Xbox One version and PS4 version side by side (if the resolution stuff is true) that they would notice. However, systems and games in this industry sell on word-of-mouth more than any other factor. So they may not personally notice it, but they WOULD notice all their gamer friends saying the XBO version is markedly inferior to the PS4 version. Ergo, a boulder starts rolling down a hill...

● What does this say about Xbox One's hardware? Is it not capable of running games that look better than this @ 1080p? Of course not! As we see from Forza 5, it runs at 1080p and 60fps. But, what it may mean is that the added complexity of the system architecture - owing primarily to the ESRam memory set up - is causing hurdles in development, forcing games which are on tight deadlines to have to make concessions on the Xbox One. It has been said that PS4's dev environment was much further ahead in tools, that it is much quicker "to triangle" on the environment than its competitor. This is exactly the type of situation that would play out if true... it's not that Call of Duty is doing things too hard for the Xbox One, it's that the added complexity of the system (and thus the added dev time) is forcing launch window games to have to make more cuts in order to get within that deadline.

● I'll get Call of Duty: Ghosts on PS4 then! But you shouldn't because that shit looks fucking grotesque too.

Discuss!

Now that's a legit post.

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
Why did you waste money on a TV? I can clearly make out aliasing in 1080p games on my 65" TV from 8 or 9 feet away. I can very clearly see the difference in 720p scaled to fit my TV and native 1080p... and no I don't need side by side to tell.

And I don't even have two perfectly functioning eyes.

Well I'm sure at 65 inches the difference is more noticeable. Also I think Plasma's hide artifacts more than LCD's.

The fact that a game that I'm confident was rushed like a motherfucker to make it in time for launch can run so much faster on a system that is cheaper is amazing. SOny better give me my launch unit on time damn it!!
