In what fucking universe is this even close to being GOTY material? It's not even a good game. You have a great setup to a story and 10 hours later you get a great ending to it. In between the game is a boring shooting gallery that looks pretty.
GOTY? It's not even top 10. It's fucking whack-a-mole that shows you half an episode of Fringe before it starts and the second half when you finish.
This is my favorite video on a subject: http://youtu.be/VdNhwb7iuI4
Its a pretty lengthy one, but it hits all the nails on the head in my opinion. A must watch for both "haters" and fans,
-People who justify horrible hardware strategies behind the word "fun" is stupid and deserves to play with an 8 bit console paid 1000$.
-Ouya could've become a great thing but the company behind it sucks ass
-Sony is forgetting the most important thing, the games.
-Microsoft it's a really sad company and not in the gaming side only.
-Nintendo has the mentality of a very tiny and territorial company and that is the reason of why it will remain healthy for a veeeeery long time and the reason of why it won't be a big player for long.
-Not having a console that crushes all the others is not a good thing, in the era of the nes, snes, ps1 and ps2 you knew what was the console to buy to have all the benefits now this sales balance hurts the customer like no other thing.
Here's one I've never had anyone agree with: I think Bioshock 2 is better than Bioshock 1.
Also I think the original Legend of Zelda is better than A Link To the Past, which I didn't enjoy all that much.

Also tried Alan Wake and that game seems to be a poor man's Deadly Premonition.
Nino kuni is a god damn's kid game the appeal is just crazy not good. I mean seriously I couldnt even make it past the point
after he's thrown into that world with that weird monster
Call of duty and all FPS games suck yes that includes killzone.
I loved Dirge of Cerberus it deserves a sequel on the PS4
Demon souls, dragon dogma are really crap i mean cmon man are you guys serious?
Teraway is not all that. It's at best a 10$ game.
Soul sacrifice is a shit game in my opinion tried the demo and it made me puke.
Monster Hunter wow man played them never got to finishing em, because they just sucked its the same thing over and over too repetitive
Assasin Creeds 3 liberation for Vita is a great fucking game, better than terraway.
Those batman games that been releasing on the ps3, never got to them played the first and 2nd one. when he's in a prison with the joker and when he's in a city and it just screamed poor open world game!
The Spiderman games made after the Tobey Mcguire Spidermans were the best spiderman games made wow just wow.
Persona 4 alone is better than all Final fantasy games or Chrono Trigger. P3 is close im still playing it tho.
Grand Turismo games, never liked em.
Need for Speed undeground is the best racer of all times(them modifications oohhh wee)
Final Fantasy XII>X by far miles.
Legend of Dragon never understood how this game was good, I had wild arms 2 as a kid that was lended to me by my half brother along with LOD. My half brother took Wild arms 2 and i was pissed off cuz I had LOD and tried playing it and never played that game again. I loved FFVII but I enjoyed Wild arms 2 more than FFVII
Dragonquest games? Man I don't get their appeal they are really bad in my opinion.
Breath of fire is seriously underrated.
The Monster Rancher GBA games is in that top best games of all times list.
Medabots as well on GBA both types the fighting one and the rpg like one.
I have two ones that are similar to each other:
I think 2d fighting games suck (haven't tried them all but the ones I did were atrocious. I'm looking at you street fighter...)
I also think 2d Mario games are mediocre
And a completely different one:
I think gamepads are a vastly better input than kbm for everything but strategy games
ActIon adventure games with RPG elements are far superior to RPGs. RPGs aren't fun games.
First person shooters aren't that fun. The latest Killzone was ok but the COD Battlefields of the world are awful. Also Bioshock is the most overrated FPS of all time, all of them.
Gears of War is one of the greatest games of all time
It'd be best for Nintendo to go third party at this point since the Wii became the biggest albatross in gaming history
Need for Speed on Ps2 is more fun than Gran Turismo
I loved Syndicate on pc, the reboot, althought the bloom effect can make your eyes bleed. But i loved the setting, the style and even the story. I have good memories of it and imho is a great game.
also i LOVED Remeber Me. The cyberpunk setting, the graphics and the story is what kept me hooked, literally, like Deus EX games.
I guess i'm a sucker for Cyberpunks games....now that i think of it, Blade Runner on PC is one of my all time favorite games ever.
Well, everyone bashes those two games, i know they arent the best around, but imho the press failed to capture the spirit of those 2 games, and describe it.
Also, i never liked any zelda game, and for my tastes, i always saw the franchise overrated. And i forced myself, god knows, to play the games. There i said it.
I did not enjoyed my time playing Mario 3D World. It was too easy for my taste and didn't match up to the hype. It's one of the few games this year I regret paying full price. This wouldn't be at the top of the list of Wii U games I would recommend to friends and family. That honor would go to The Wonderful 101. I would've shared this on the 3D World thread but I didn't want to deal with people telling me my opinion is "factually" wrong left and right. I just didn't find the game as good as the Galaxy games.
There are thousands of JRPGs and they are so diverse that it's insane, to think they are all crap is crazy and honestly, it means you haven't played many.
Online gaming is highly overrated. For some people, it's an absolute necessity. That's something I will never get. Sure, it's fun at times, but for the most part I prefer sitting down and enjoying the game on my own. It's possible. Not only that, but apparently EVERY game has to have an online mode nowadays or it will experience huge backlash - even if the game doesn't need it at all. That's why we see so many tacked on multiplayer modes that not only make the game more expensive to make but also results in a longer development cycle. It's unnecessary and shouldn't be considered a standard by any means.
I'm not saying this is the case with every game, but generally speaking we tend to forget that gaming can be enjoyed offline, just like in the old days.

I like SimCity (2013) far better than I liked SimCity 4.
I never, ever liked working underground (on subways, pipes, etc.) nor laying electrical infrastructure; it seemed redundant given that you wouldn't, under normal gameplay conditions, deliberately cut off power or water to a building. The new SimCity streamlines it by assuming that power and water run under the roads as soon as you lay said roads, which cuts down on a lot of pointless activity, and allows more time to be put into actually expanding the city.
I was also always disappointed in SimCity 4 by how cars disappeared at the ends of roads and the like, and U-Drive-It only made the issue more glaring. In the new SimCity, I very frequently pass the time as my city increases in density or gathers money in the bank by simply seeing what my city's traffic is doing, often following specific vehicles.
I find Chrono Trigger boring, like the music, but found everything else boring, perhaps its one of those games you have to play in its time as I only tried the DS version. Also note I am a fan of JRPGs, with Suikoden series being my favorite games, so it's nothing to do with the genre or old school 2D graphics.
I already said it once and it's fresh on my mind, so I'll say it again.
Metroid Fusion is the worst 2D Metroid game besides the original. It's probably the most boring Metroid game to replay besides Hunters and Other M, because every five seconds Adam forces you to wait in a data room and skip his text, or Samus goes on one of those elevators and has a poorly-written inner monologue. The final boss fight is awful and is a ripoff of Super Metroid's with none of the storytelling that made the Mother Brain fight matter. The story reads like a Metroid fanfic, with Samus glorifying this new character we've never seen and coincidentally meeting the Zebes animals that escaped at the end of Super Metroid. There's a lot of tedious "go here and do this" plotting that makes you feel like Adam's janitor, a far cry from the explorer of other Metroid games. There are some really good boss fights (BOX, Nightmare, Yakuza, Serris), but the level design has none of the mystery and discovery Metroid 2, Super Metroid, and Zero Mission had, so you feel bored between said boss fights. The changes to the Morph Ball bombs and wall jumping felt like a "fuck you" to people who experimented with those abilities in Super Metroid. The Fusion Suit is cool-looking until you get the yellow upgrade, at which point you vomit at the horrible clown-suit.
*Deep breath*
I dunno, this might be a popular opinion, but I replayed Fusion recently and it really doesn't feel as good as the other 2D Metroids. And then I go online and everybody wants a sequel to this insipid storyline because apparently it's just sooooo interesting having Samus fight the Weyland-Yutani Corp-I mean, the Galactic Federation while having five minute conversations with her computer.
If we ever get another Metroid, I want it to be somewhere remote. I don't want it on a fucking space station or military base or whatever. Leave the Galactic Federation alone and explore the wilderness.
Nintendo are guilty of doing everything that the Call of Duty series do. They rehash, re-use and lazily throw the same crap in all their games. I love playing Zelda, but Nintendo isn't exempt from this obvious milking of the series.
Nintendo fans are worse than the Call of Duty fanbase..
Square-enix have no idea what they're doing.
Sonic '06 isn't anywhere near as bad as people claim. Most people are riding the dick of JonTron/Game Grumps/[insert other famous YouTube/video] and then using that as their opinion.
Another reason why I think Sonic'06 isn't that bad is because the Sonic series in general is pretty shit. Play Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and tell me that those games don't suffer from the same problems as Sonic '06. But, because of that constant cheesefest of Sonic, I like the series.
The entire Devil May Cry series is pretty poor aside from the combat of DMC4.
Wind Waker is the best 3D Zelda.
Mass Effect 2 is a thoroughly mediocre game and didn't deserve any GoTY's
Bioshock is average to poor in every area but presentation, also didn't deserve it's GoTY's
edit:
Sonic Adventure 2 is fucking awesome
Naughty Dog has one of the most insufferable fanbases

Everyone has long decided that Sonic 06 was an unplayable mess before even the LP of it happened. I played it blind and thought it was the worst Sonic game ever.
So really, you don't get to decide what motivate another's opinion. That's just a fucking obnoxious thing to do.
Oh and SA1/SA2 are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better than Sonic 06. And yes, this is coming from replaying them recently.
I don't know if my opinion is controversial or not . . .
The Last Of Us disappointed me. After going through the game and expecting some great dialogue and characterization and interaction, I was unsatisfied.
The game starts out fine, and in fact I think my favorite part was the start. The interaction between Tess, Joel, and Ellie felt natural and worked great. However, after Tess, the conversations between Joel and Ellie were always straight to the point. There were a few nice ones, such as their conversation about universities and having goals when growing up, but it leaves more to be desired. I really wanted some deep emotional connections, but I felt those only happened when the game cut to black to the next chapter. In other words, their back stories are only sparingly and cursorily delved into during the game, and I wish that through conversation they would get to some of that.
That missing component left me wanting something that the game did not thoroughly deliver.
I hated bayonetta. Played through several levels hated the character and game design, thought the combat was generic and resulted in button mashing. Not fun at all
I can see next gen being, on the home console front, Sony only.
I'd not be surprised if Nintendo call it a day and focus on handheld, where they absolutely dominate, and slowly bring Mario to Playstation, starting with Galaxy.
I think MS will pull out, recent revelations about XBox always losing money, even after their most successful machine.... I just can't see them staying in the game with a new CEO, UNLESS something big happens on the media front / their TV production front. They're not making money on the console front, despite all the Live subs and most people buying the 360 version of multiplatform titles. If they couldn't make money last gen, I can't see how they'll make any this gen with less console sales, and significantly less multiplatform sales (given the superior PS4 version - though this may take a few years for the masses to catch on, they will eventually).
And my real controversial opinion - I think this may all be a good thing. Microsoft are, in my not too humble opinion, toxic to gaming and the sooner they leave MY hobby alone, the better. Nintendo will be around forever, but a break from home consoles would do them some good.
Besides, wouldn't it be great to have a 5 year stretch where there's literally only one console and devs can concentrate on that, not spreading their resources. No console wars, none of that bollocks, we could all live in harmony where the only thing that matters is the games, not the colour of the tribal war paint on your face.
Mine is that the ratio of crap to good is the same in indies as it is in larger games. Some news outlets stroke the egos of the indie crowd without acknowledging that not all their games are the second coming. For every AAA game that substitutes flash for substance, there is an indie game that uses terrible mechanics and says it's "old school challenge". Sorry, guys, sometimes your game just sucks.
I really love some indie games, but only if they are good games, not because they are indie.
Feeling this way makes me feel like I would get beat to death if I ever attended PAX or something.

-We need more games that are MP-only like Titanfall, and SP games that don't include tacked-on MP. Spend all your resources on what you do best. A couple extra levels are worth losing crappy MP that will have a dead community in weeks.`
-Dragon's Dogma had some good ideas but was dragged down by the downright awfulness of everything else. It is a 6/10 game, at best.
-If Xbox One could have turned out like Steam, it's a shame they 180'd on everything before it even started. And as a consumer, I would have liked to see the competing philosophies in action before buying a new console. If it failed, so be it.
-I want new exclusive IPs for new generations. I have no excitement for Uncharted and only a little for InFamous. Meanwhile, I am fascinated by The Order and Deep Down.
Just because you have stats and can level up does not mean your game is an RPG.
Final Fantasy is just a squad based tactical game.
Mass Effect is an action game.
The Witcher 2 and Deus Ex are RPGs because they have consequences on your decisions. Even better, they both have meaningful consequences!

Hotline Miami is the first one that comes to mind. I played hours of it. I get that it oozes style. I get that it is brutal in a totally pared-down way. I get that people love the soundtrack.
But the gameplay was abysmal to me. The speed meant that skill was virtually out for me, and the randomness of the guard's patterns (as well as weapon placement) past the first few chapters meant that developing a plan was out, too. Essentially, winning later levels seemed like luck was as big a factor as anything else.
Old school challenge for me was like the original Ninja Gaiden. Sure, Ryu's dad was hard as hell to fight, but he had predictable patterns that you could learn, and improve on. If he had had a different attack every time, or if you started with a different secondary (there were shuriken, big shuriken, and...err, I can't remember), it would have just felt unfair.
Super Meat Boy, on the other hand, gets it right. I'm not good enough to beat the game, but I could improve and get there, because the game provides me the same skill challenge every time, and even though it's twitch-based to an extreme and sometimes so fast-paced it's crazy, I feel like skill+planning=success.
- RE6 is pretty good. It represents massive squandered potential, but even for what it is, it is worth playing with a lot of production and content.
- Halo games have *all* been bad, not just 3 (3 is comically bad, but they're all bad).
- I hate Grand Theft Auto 5 profoundly, on every level.
- Mario games are getting tired.
- Goldeneye on N64 was fucking terrible then and terrible now. Rare has never made a good game or a pretty game. Rare categorically *sucks*.
- Half-Life games are overrated, and the story/characters impossible to take seriously. Gordon's an emotionless mute, yet characters form bonds with him. It's absurd and I could never suspend my disbelief.
- Everything really should be more like Dark Souls. I say these words without irony or sarcasm.
I find this curious. I think Dogma, despite its flaws, was so ambitious and fresh and exciting that it was either my GOTY the year it came out or close to it. I'd like to see a bigger overworld with more itemization and more challenge, but really, it's amazing, and the experience was utterly novel.
It's basically what GTA4 should have been. GTA4 represented some graphical improvements over San Andreas, but regressed in many other areas.
It took us years to get to GTA5, which is basically taking things back to the level of San Andreas. Only now -- That's not good enough. The combat remains deeply flawed and unsatisfying, with that "Rockstar" trademark feel where they're just incapable of designing gunplay that looks or feels satisfying.
The characters are all despicable and profoundly unlikeable, and you can't even try and ignore them because they yell the entire game.
The game's tone is unrelentingly dark and angry, and portrays women very negatively.
I can appreciate the technical achievement of the world design, but in nearly every other way possible I despise the game and am ashamed that I fell for the hype and bought yet another bad GTA game.
Resident Evil 4 is a boring snooze fest. It was seriously fun for the first few hours, then it was just simply, go in this room, kill dudes, progress to next room, kill more dudes and so on. And it lasted far to long. It felt like a very bland dungeon crawler to me. And the "Puzzles" were awful... DON'T HURT ME
