Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Under 30 inches it's kind of hard to find a 1080p set. I think the reason is because at that size it's hard to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p

I'd check out dynex. I just upgraded from a 24'' 1080p dynex that wasn't too bad. It was under $200 so you can expect the quality but if you aren't that picky it should be fine. But it only comes with 1 hdmi port and like the poster above said, at that size 1080p v 720p won't be a huge difference. It's a solid set. Not the best you can get, but it seems like it'll do for your purposes

Maybe a PC monitor is better suited for you. Downside is that there aren't many which have multiple HDMI ports, so you'll be forced to either use the Xbox One as an HDMI port or switch cables.

That sounds so appealing to me. But I'm not going to lie, with a 1/30th second delay online becomeing 1/15th of a second (which I think is pretty noticeable) its hard for me to make the switch. I play a lot of fighters and FPS games with a mouse and keyboard and not having that instant responce might get the best of me. But black levels and motion clarity are pretty important to me too. I might have to take a trip to bestbuy and play with the plasmas for a bit this weekend.

You may still be able to track down the 27ms Panasonic (U50) at a Walmart. Based on Cnet's reviews, it appears to perform very similarly (if not identical) to the S60 (possibly both share the same 15th Gen panel?).
 
Getting my 900 tomorrow morning. Can't wait to get it set up! Will have it paired with a PS4/Bone/PS3 and a Sonos Playbar.

Next step getting a Sonos Sub and buying a new stand in the future :D

Set up my 55w900 this morning, good god. First off, feel like I won the lottery. Barely any noticeable clouding whatsoever, a nearly perfect set with excellent screen uniformity. Viewed several movies in 2.35 AR and the blacks were pitch black.

Tried gaming with my PS4 to test for input lag, put it in game mode and played AC4. On my previous set any time I would input a Jump command there was an insanely noticeable lag between the command taking place and me pressing X. Now the lag is virtually gone! The input lag hype on this set is no freaking joke. Can't wait to try out an FPS and feel the difference there

PQ for movies is stunning, set it to impulse and the motion rivals what I've seen on competing Panny plasmas. Incredibly smooth, filmic, and little to no motion blur. Coupled with amazing colors and rich blacks, this TV really feels like the best of both worlds :D

Also tried 3D with Shitformers 3, brightness was excellent, minimal crosstalk, really clear 3d image. Was using PS3 for 3D playback.
 
I'm in the market for a new t.v. working with a 46 inch now, and don't really want anything less than 55 inch going forward. I don't plan on buying tv for at least two years after the upgrade. question is, should I go 4k now to try and insulate myself from technological advances pertaining to 4k content releases (potential firmware updates to the ps4 unlocking 4k capabilities)? how bad do 1080p images look upscaled on 4k sets? what is the best 1080p screen to get now that would hold me over for two years+? thanks in advance.
 
I just got a Samsung UE65F9005 4k TV. I know it's not ideal for gaming, but I did fine with my panasonic plasma's THX mode (not gaming mode), so I hope this can match that with its 60ms input lag in game mode. It's glorious for other purposes, though :)

I wouldn't go 4K yet. By the time we actually get a decent amount of some good 4K content, 2 or 3 years from now, 4K TV's will be cheaper and more advanced. Since there isn't a 4K standard yet, if you buy an overpriced 4K set now, it may not be fully up to spec (ie 8bit or 10bit color).

If you're talking about the PS4 possibly being able to play games at 4K, there's no way in hell. It should be able to stream 4K movies and shows down the road though. Streaming hasn't even gotten to 1080p BluRay quality yet, so I'm not sure how 4K streaming is going to work out ?

If you want a TV right now, the Samsung 55" F7100 is very solid and is on sale. The best set is probably the Samsung F8500 plasma, but it is pricey. Panasonic Plasmas are almost impossible to get at this point. If not I would definetely wait for the Full Array sets coming later this year, or check out the new Samsung plasmas.
 
Hey guys, im a fairly newb when it comes to TV's.
I'm looking for something in the range of 400€-500€ and would use it mostly
for my consoles and PC (to watch Movies/Series, Big Picture etc).
I have only little knowledge of what to consider.
Are these good choices?

Yeah Avatar is the movie to show off Sony's W line. It looks crazy good on my W655. I suggest using Journey for PS3 if you have it as banding stress test. It's by far where it looks the worst on my TV. If you can't see any lines or weird dark spots while moving the camera around in that game then you really lucked out.

I'll give it a try. I've actually never played Journey!

I've yet to see any noticeable banding however so knock on wood.

Totally agree. Sony used to mean quality but not so much anymore. They don't even manufacture their own panels anymore, they mostly use LG made panels.

Nowadays you'd be better off buying a Vizio than a Sony. They both use the same panels, except Vizio's are nearly half the price of Sony's.
 
So I bought my first 1080p to go with my PS4. I've got an Panasonic TX-L39EM6B LED. 39 inches. Initially I was pleased with the jump from my previous 720p set, but there are some serious issues I've noticed. Any part of the scenery in a game that's beyond a certain distance and has thin or segmented parts, (trees or stairs etc) are just a jagged mess. I've calibrated the TV to the extent that I'm happy with brightness, contrast, black levels etc, but the jaggy scenery is really distracting.



Does anyone have experience with this particular TV? It was £350 so I'm aware its on the cheaper end of things but I thought a modern 1080p tv should look better.

Generally this years W series has been great for low input lag, so good for games. The W6 generally has good picture quality for the price, with good blacks.

However, I think the 32" W6 specifically (the one you are looking at) doesn't have such low input lag. I'll see if I can dig out the info on that. Still a good set though.

That's weird. I have a 60" HD CRT with 1080i and I've never noticed it before. I'm one to talk though, I'm gaming on a CRT, but, to be fair it was fucking awesome back in the day.
 
I'm still rocking a Sony 34XBR960 CRT; digital displays just don't do it for me. It weighs a ton, has imperfect geometry/corner convergence, 1080i and a smaller viewing area but DAMN IT ALL if it isn't the best gaming TV I will ever have.
 
I would buy the w900a only if it had passive 3D. So I guess I'll have to wait for the 950.

Also, got text burned in on my plasma from House of the Dead. Didn't even have it on the screen for more than like 10 minutes, but it's been a day and it's still there.
 
I am getting annoyed with the Vizio, because now that I have watched more dark stuff I can see more of the bright spots. The 2014 line is just around the corner with local dimming and backlights, but I have had this set a month so I don't think I can return it. And I don't know when the 60 is coming..

Maybe I can ride it on for awhile and go through Vizo directly to replace it. They will probably want to repair or send a refurb out because upgrading a 2013 to a 2014 set I'd be however.
Worst case I learn to deal with it and in another year or so the prices and PQ will be even better and I'll just upgrade again. This was $850, so I don't want to drop more for awhile, but I do want great PQ for games and movies.

What brand plasma? I play on a Panasonic S60 and haven't had an issue with static imagery getting burned in. Maybe turn the contrast down? I have mine at 60/100, cinema mode.

If the text was only onscreen for 10 minutes, it shouldn't be permanent. Though hopefully it goes away sooner rather than later. Just keep that part of the screen moving with full screen content.

I guarantee you it's not Burn In, you couldn't possibly get burn in from a 10min static image. It's just Image Retention. Some IR lasts seconds, some last minutes, some days, some even last months, but it will go away.

BTW, what's your contrast set at ? Do you have the pixel orbiter on ?

Define months. Got IR from the start screen of FM5 which won't have been on the screen for longer than a minute. 50 hours later I can still see the outline of the McLaren P1.

I am curious, are you using a PS4 on it? If so how are the results? Are PS4 games natively rendering in 1080i?

I am a 34XS955 owner.
 
Why do some of you people post screenshots of your TV?! You do realise that we're viewing them on our iPhone/iPad/PC monitor right? So your TV only looks as good as the screen we're viewing it on ;)
