Mafia: The Old Country |OT| Chuck Berries grown in Sicily

Dude I am so all over this. Hot damn. I wonder if they added new trophies...

Don't think I'm reinstalling for this, but the first person driving and the black and white mode look awesome. Nice to see they delivered on the free ride mode they promised.

And the game now supports:
  • AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4)
  • NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling 4 (DLSS 4)
  • Intel Xe Super Sampling 2 (XeSS 2)

I am really enjoying the racing events in Free Ride and I am pretty sure they improved vehicle handling and smoothness of loading in environmental assets as it is all much smoother now.

Unfortunately, I cannot seem to beat the intro assassination mission. I dispatched all the enemies I could see and ran back to the start but I lost anyways after time ran out. Does anyone know how to beat it? I do not know where the supposed target is.

It's sad that this game and Hell Is Us didn't get any recognition from the game awards. They both broke out of the norm and delivered what gamers actually want.

Mafia went AAA linear, no damn Ubi bloat and at a lower price tag.

Hell Is Us went no waypoints, no hand holding, yet it was still intuitive and delivered also at the lower price tag.

If our award shows can't recognize games that actually listen to us, then they don't really represent us or the year entirely.

The new Free Ride unlockable car is better than any DLC or account linked vehicles. After painting it black I have nicknamed it the "Black Widow" and am loving that it made the checkpoint time trials manageable. The circuit races were still cool with weaker vehicles though. The salt flats race (with cool jump ramp shortcut) was probably my favorite.

Chapter 5 now, what a great game. Loving it so far. On one hand I'm like....why didn't you add some side quests but on the other hand it just doesn't seem very logical for Enzo to do busy work for others.

I do however dislike how ridiculously bright the night is in the game, after coming from games such as KCD1 it really stands out in a bad way. Too many games do this, unfortunately.

Glad to see people are still picking this up and enjoying it. It's a good, short linear adventure game -- the kind you don't see much of anymore.

It is usually too dark for me but then again the default day lighting is blinding so I set brightness pretty low.

That's weird, because I already got my TV brightness from default 50 to 46 because on the Sony A95K I find Xbox games looking washed out with default 50. I'll go have a look in the game's HDR settings. Yes, daytime is plenty bright but night time is weirdly bright too. I checked a video on YouTube of a playthrough and it's the same there.

Aight, I checked the HDR settings in the game. You mean the brightness slider there? Because I rather not touch the peak brightness.

At first, I thought it wasn't for me, as the reviews were very negative. But now that I've started playing it again, I think it's my favorite Mafia game, even though the story is very very predictable.

How nice. A game breaking bug in chapter 10. After the checkpoint I died, no problem. Except for when it was loading again it just kept loading and loading and nothing happened. I waited easily five minutes. So I closed the game. Now when I choose continue game it just crashes back to the dashboard on Xbox.

So I gotta replay chapter 9 again since I can't simply restart chapter 10.

This is why I fucking despise when games only have auto save and not manual.

Aw, bummer man. Hopefully it won't be too much of a slog to replay that section. I agree about autosaves.

Well I'm putting difficulty to easy for just this chapter and I skip the rides, so that should help a lot. There is some shooting and a knife fight in this chapter. It's annoying.

I will make sure not to die in chapter 10 though, just watch me getting the bug again. Hell no.

Oh this is really bad, unless I'm missing something.

I chose chapter replay for 9 because i can't select 10, it's not there. After having finished 9 again it just goes back to the main menu and chapter 10 has not been added.

So I can only choose continue game and that's when it crashes. So basically I gotta restart the whole story. Bro, what the fucking shit is this?

Ridiculous that something like this still happens today. The last time I had problems with a corrupted save game was with Assassin's Creed 2 on the Xbox 360. Because of that, I never managed to finish the game, even though I really liked it.

Uh oh. Game-ending bug. Damn, that sucks. :messenger_frowning_

Yeah this was the very last thing I was expecting to happen. I'm definitely not starting over with the story so YouTube here I come, I guess. FFS.

From google AI:

"Mafia: The Old Country players have reported significant, game-breaking bugs near the end, including soft-locks in Chapter 5 where weapons disappear, and final boss, cutscene, or animation freezes. Reported issues often cause infinite loops or require replaying the entire game to fix. Common fixes involve reloading checkpoints, restarting the system, or lowering graphics settings to reduce load."

Sorry that happened to you. Ruined a good game.

I'm not an Xbox guy no more, but are there cloudsaves which you could use, known good savegames?
Or will uninstall and reinstall the game help?

Not that I know of. You can choose to remove save files from the system and it will load the one in the cloud but that's it. I can try a complete reinstall, it can't hurt.

Maybe try both, when the local save file is corrupt, maybe the cloud save isn't.
Sadly deleting the save file from my console didn't do it. But I'm trying a reinstall now. I've also sent the devs a tweet with a video showing it. I'll also leave a review on Xbox because I've noticed how some devs actually respond there, or listen to it.

I decided to restart the story and just now I finished it. I'm glad I did because the stuff that happens is not something I wanted to see in a playthrough, that's stuff I want to experience and play myself.

I have been reading criticism about the bad ending and what not, but honestly....I'm not seeing it. I am very okay with this ending.

Excellent! I'm surprised you were willing to restart the game after getting that game-breaking bug in Chapter 10. Most people would've quit in frustration (and I wouldn't blame them). But you plowed through the whole game again. Good for you, and I'm glad you enjoyed the ending. You're right, it's not something you want to just watch passively on a video.

Yeah, I just couldn't stand that this shit was happening and knowing I could put the game at easy and skip cutscenes the decision was made fairly soon.

i'm playing the game now. It has no right to be as good as it is the graphics amazing. The acting voice acting is incredible. I'm really surprised by the story. I swear hopefully they will make a Las Vegas one next.
