To think this was the station that balked at
Carl finishing off Shane ala the comic.
and now we got increased gore.

Because damnit the people wanted it.

Also not sure why the throat cutting is getting to so many.

Seems like it's becoming increasing popular in famous shows.

this show has never made me feel uneasy but that throat cutting was quite uncomfortable to watch. not sure if they're stepping up their gore game or its specifically something to do with a knife slicing open a throat
Have you not watched anything else in your life? I just do not understand how anyone thought the season opener was at all uncomfortable. Who is gareth?

Yep humans being lined up and slaughtered like cattle isn't at all disturbing.

And as a father I found the scene with Judith's life being threatened really uncomfortable.

That was the most unsettling part of the premiere for me and I'm not a father.
Creepy dude threatening to snap a baby girl's neck was more chilling to me than a bunch of anonymous redshirts being lined up to get a bat to the skull and their throats slit open.

I wasn't that 'impressed' by it. A cable(?) show isn't gonna show a baby getting her neck snapped, there was no real threat for me.

Not sure if this point got raised last week in all of the hooplah but I just picked up on one clear point of contention between Rick and Carol now that the gang is all back together.

In Season 2, Carol pleaded with Rick to go bring her daughter back to her, he said he would, he left the group to find her only to return empty-handed, Carol's daughter wound up undead and Rick had to put a bullet in her skull.

In Seasons 4-5, Rick banished Carol from the group, lost his daughter believing her to be dead only for Carol to return to rescue Rick from sure death AND she returned HIS daughter to him alive and well without being asked at all.

BOTH resolution episodes were written by Scott Gimple.

It's going to be fascinating to see how they interact with one another now that Carol has succeeded at doing the one thing Rick spectacularly failed at.
Actually it was Ty who found and save Judith, but I get what you are saying.

Battlestar galactica did.
Thought the same thing. Might not show it but they could've audio'd the snap.

So I no longer have cable, and am trying to watch the first episode of S5 on amctv, but it won't load at all. Anyone else have issues?

I thought you could watch episodes for a period of time the day after they air without a cable sub. Their site itself says no log in required to watch it and that there are 25 days left.

Am I just misunderstanding it? I can't actually get any of their videos to load, now that I try the others.

EDIT: And of course, right after I post this I go to look at my settings on chrome://plugins and see that one of the two shockwave plugins is disabled. Nevermind! All is working now.

For the comic book crowd, how does Rick and Co. escape from the baseball bat to the head in the comics? I want to ask this in the spoiler thread but I don't want to get spoiled on other stuff.

I don't even know if this happens. My memory could be fuzzy but a lot of events are very out of place compared to the comics.

They are well past the point where they are just taking major plot points and changing it around a little including who dies.

Comic Spoilers:
Terminus isn't a thing in the comic. Lots of similar things do happen though (meeting Abraham and co, Morgan, arc with a cannibal group)

So this whole "compound of cannibals who were wronged earlier now lure in unsuspecting travelers/food" never happened in comics?

Comic Spoilers:
In the comics there was a small cannibal group called 'the hunters' that preyed on other small groups. They become desperate and target Rick's group. They certainly weren't good though, they ate their own children in the comic. They also didn't have some organized command center with radio going out.

Also

I like how Rick handled the hunters in the comics as opposed to how the show handled Terminus. I'm all about that cold cold revenge though

The part that really disturbed me about it was that Tyrese didn't blow his head off immediately.

Yeah wth. He got bitched out of the room. I mean its nice he went full limitbreak on the zombies and came back for the guy but it pretty much would have been for naught if the guy didnt decide to wait.

In the comic post Governor Rick becomes a total bad ass just like in the show.

Also for comic fans
anybody else get giddy at Ty and Abe getting to team up on the show? This duo never met

The group is stacked now with alpha males. Rick, Abe, Ty and Daryl.

so will we get the usual tedium where nothing really happens until mid season finale starting tonight?

Probably

I dont have much experience with tv shows aside from sitcoms....

...but it seems it works this way to all of em, right? The pilot/first episode every season is a blow out, full of action, interesting things, production values and the works

Then the rest of the season drags itself until the explosive season finale.

Is it always like this?

It's pretty much never like that. For any show.

The way the scene was set up and edited added to that tension. The close-up of the spotless steel trough made me feel really uneasy, it added this sort of cold, clinical feel to the carnage.

Season 4 made my girlfriend a fan. In particular, the back half of season 4, which really develops a few characters in a way that they weren't before. She was just watching for my sake before then, we'd watch and she'd basically do something else.

We don't have cable so it might be a while before I get to see more of Season 5, but I wanted to chime in and say S4 Part 2 is good. Hope we get to see more stuff like that, which means that the group really needs to thin out.
