Daryl doesn't really have any kind of comic component. He never really has, and Aaron never got anyone from Rick's group to help him with recruiting.

(comics)
In the comic, Rick's first badass right hand man was Tyreese, who was then killed off to make way for badass right hand man #2 Abraham, who was then killed off to make way for badass right hand man #3 Jesus. They like to rotate a new one in every so often.

On the show, Daryl plays Rick's first (and only) badass right hand man, and they're evidently not willing to kill him off (yet), so that's why they changed show Tyreese into a completely new character. That's also why Abraham isn't a total badass and probably why Jesus will also be different when they eventually introduce him (unless Daryl is dead at that point).

My sister likes Carol, but I don't.

She is far too quick to kill people and scare kids than I am comfortable with.

You must not have seen her character arc(s). She was an abused housewife and is no a strong independent white woman that don't need no man (or kids).

So apparently Steven Yeun clocked the fuck outta Michael Traynor (guy who plays Nicholas). Just completely blindsided him as they were prepping for a scene.

EW Interview with Josh McDermitt said:
As much as Eugene stepped up in this episode, dude, he was still a little slow on the draw with pulling out that gun.

Hey! If I can defend him for a little bit, he has like a six-foot silencer on that thing. He’s trying to pull it out of the holster and it’s just getting caught. The really cool thing is that he really stepped up in that moment and decided once he saw that Nicholas was trying to pull a fast one, that Eugene shuts the engine off on the van, he gets out, and he realizes okay, this guy is trying to screw us over and I’m not going to let that happen. It’s such a great moment for Eugene, after he’s already stepped up as a hero. I’m hoping this is going to be a pattern in his life because I do think you need to do that to survive. You can’t just hide in the back of Alexandria behind the walls because that’s how you become people like Aiden and Nicholas where you just ditch people to survive on your own. You need to step up and pull your weight. But him pulling that gun out was ridiculous. He got his butt kicked and thrown to the ground. Did Steven talk to you about actually punching the actor?

No!

Oh, this was awesome. So in that scene where Nicholas throws Eugene to the ground, I’m literally lying right next to Michael Traynor who plays Nicholas and we’re just doing the rehearsal and Steven comes in. And Steven is, like, hot, and ready to go. And he takes the first punch and just connects right with his jaw. It made my stomach hurt because I was literally like a foot-and-a-half from that. And they were like, “Whoa, Whoa, this is just a rehearsal!” Not even just a rehearsal, you’re just never supposed to connect with someone. But Steven was just so embarrassed and “I’m so sorry.” And you see Michael’s face starting to swell up and they had to ice pack it down and everything, It was so sad, It was like, “Welcome to the show, let me beat the crap out of you.” But Michael is a tough dude. He’s a lot of fun to work with and I know Steven felt really bad. But that’s not the first time. That stuff happens all the time. I heard stories like Michael Rooker, who played Merle, would clock people all the time.

git fucked Nicholas

If they did kill Morgan like that I'd be pissed. Would be such a waste of a character. I'm not one of those guys who cares about who they kill. Some of these characters are throwaway characters and need to die because they're hardly advancing the script or story anymore. They're just there. But I'm hoping this is all a red herring. But this show has never been good with subtlety. You can see things coming a mile away at times, everything is just too convenient and staged.

It will actually be disappointing if Carol is the one to go in the finale. She's had one of the most consistent arcs over the course of the show.

Dayum that episode! Can't wait to see the season finale.

Oh and people are speculating that Morgan got killed by the Wolves and they will reveal it in the season finale. Rick and Co. about to f up the Wolves!

RIP Morgan

Didn't he throw away his ring?

I'm rewatching season 1.

I wonder what happened to the crew and the old people at the Nursing home in Atlanta.
Didn't work out for them

Here's the deleted scene:

Initially, the episode [Season 2 premiere] would have started exactly where they finished after the last episode. Rick and his group would travel to the city to return to Home Hospice of Atlanta, where he would find it completely destroyed and massacred by zombies. After recovering the weapons they had shared, they decide to leave the city heading to Fort Benning.

Frank Durabrant (?) back when he was the show runner was apparently going to make an episode in season 2 of the group going back to the nursing home to find it was overrun by walkers already.

Also apparently the show wasn't gonna be all about Ricks group. An episode was going to be about the soldiers that had that tank in Atlanta.

I cant remember where I heard it from but that was a few years ago

The show was still was going to be about Rick's group, but would have occasionally dedicated an episode to showing the stories of random people like the soldier in the tank, etc.

this is ... awkward

How DARE Michonne disrupt Ricktator's coup d'etat attempt?!

She has to go, along with Sasha and every other idiot that wants to make believe. That little girl that said "it's their world now" has more wisdom that these suburbanite losers.

So with a 90 minute episode and no Morgan appearance for a while, anyone think we'll finally get a lot of movement on this front?

Aaron could be all look at this guy we recruited...and then him and Rick lock eyes and share in the most epicest of bro embraces.

Or we get a post credit scene of him coming up to Alexandria's gates. I honestly cannot even guess what will happen in these 90 mins and how it will end. Nervous and excited.

Maintain hype levels! Set the bar low or you're bound to be disappointed in some way...

...is what I keep telling myself. HYPE!!!

I'm hoping for a hopeful ending rather than a cliffhanger. Rather than someone dying (haven't enough died already?!) it ends on a happy rick/morgan note.

But alas, the odds aren't on my side.

Nobody died in the previous season finale, did they?

2 characters died just in the second half of this current season, so I don't see the need to kill anyone else in the finale.

Finale deaths:

Season One - 2: Jacqui and Dr. Jenner
Season Two - 2: Jimmy and Patricia
Season Three - 1: Andrea
Season Four - 0

Damn, never realized TWD season finales were such weak sauce.

Although, in Season 5 we've had 4 major character deaths. That's gotta be a record. I think this time around the finale won't disappoint in terms of deaths. Overall, all seasons have had pretty strong finales except for Season 3 which I'm sure many if not all fans would agree with me.

Rick's rant at the end was awesome. Michonne was total shit in this episode. She couldn't hold that Beretta to save her life and she hit Rick. That bitch.

I think the problem is that death is too predictable for season finales, and they are trying to mix it up or go in different directions to give people the sense that a character could be killed at any time.....not just at the end of a season.

I also think it helps them kick the new season into gear more quickly if they don't have to have the characters regroup and mourn somebody right off the bat in the season opener.

If anyone dies in the Season 5 finale, it means they will have killed 4 or 5 major characters in the course of a single season. That's a pace they really can't keep up with realistically, and it's probably already setting a bad precedent for the show.

Not including the finale, lets do some season ranking!

5(Evolution of Carol and Rick)>4=3>1....................2(Loud/obxious Shane and Lori the instigator ruined it for me)

Yeah, The Walking Dead is, actually, pretty surprising when it comes to character deaths. Most of the major ones (Dale, Shane, Lori, T-Dog, Bob, Tyreese) have happened in a non finale episode.

Given all the teasing the cast and crew have been doing, I would be really surprised if we went two years in a row without a major death in the season finale. I just hope mah gurl Carol makes it out alive.

Considering we have 13 characters making up the main cast at the moment (with more surely to come in Season 6), I'm perfectly fine if they maintain this death rate. For me, it would be ideal to have the number of major characters that are given dedicated screen time and development anywhere below the double digit mark. Anything less than 10 would be preferable. Maybe then some characters wouldn't have to disappear for multiple episodes at a time without a line of dialogue.

Not counting season finales:

5 > 4 ≥ 3 = 2 > 1

Season 5 has easily had the best pacing, best plot progression, best character development, etc. A damn fine season for Gimple after not having to do any cleanup work from previous seasons.

Season 4 gets a lot of credit from me for Gimple trying out a lot of new elements in the first half and working on character development in the back half, even though some of it fell sort of flat (Daryl and Beth to some degree and anything with Glenn and Maggie). Because of that, it's probably just a little bit ahead of Season 3/2 for me. If you throw in the finales, then Season 4 pulls ahead by a larger margin. Episode 416 has absolutely been my favorite finale of all of them so far.

Season 2 and 3 were all over the damn place but they still had some of my definite favorite episodes of the entire show. These include episode 207 (finally sold me on the show), 208, 212, 301, 302, 312, 315. In the end, they're pretty much equal to me with or without their finales.

And outside of a solid first two episodes, Season 1 just never gave us enough to stand together with the other seasons.

Given all the teasing the cast and crew have been doing, I would be really surprised if we went two years in a row without a major death in the season finale. I just hope mah gurl Carol makes it out alive.

Yeah, looking at everything that's been said by the cast and crew...
I predict an OG member of the cast to bite it this weekend. Specifically, somebody who's been around since Season 1/2. Considering Reedus and McBride have been announced to be on Talking Dead, my bets are they are both safe. So for me the only remaining candidates are Glenn and Maggie... ;_;
