007 First Light State of Play announced for September 3 at 11am PT / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST

I felt like the mission stories provided that.
To some extent, yeah. Still felt pretty pointless and disjointed. I honestly don't remember a single character I encountered via mission stories. The narrative was all window dressing. So unless the gameplay completely hooked you, you get burnt out after a while.

I think a Bond universe could fix that if married with the right amount of their level design. Hopefully they don't go too linear and keep some of their DNA.

Got any links? Though we just had that trailer a few months ago. Game looked alright, Hitman blended with more action set pieces? What's not to like?

Maybe I made that last bit up, and im thinking of a different game?

Edit:: Nope that's exactly what it looks to be. Looks good, not seeing the hate.

Yep. Best looking action shooter gameplay preview I've seen in years. I don't know if these people are serious Bond fans who had some other type of game in mind, but when you contrast it with the Indiana Jones game, which could cure insomnia, I'm taking this Bond all day. We haven't gotten a game in this genre in a very long time. Equally pumped to see IO flex their chops outside of Hitman. I've got about a hundred hours in the Hitman Cinematic Universe and am ready for their next move. Pricing uber blunders are going to prevent that game from getting the credit it deserves. A master class on "delivering". I mean exactly what the fans wanted, in detail. Pricing aside - imagine any other old beloved IP getting handled with that level of care and quality.

The PS5 is basically a third party machine at this point. I mean they could have a regular State of Play, but not even sure they have a single unannounced Sony game to show.

You really think they don't have any game unannounced to show at all? Like really?.....

Meh, won't be tuning in but I'm curious about the game so I'll watch the new trailer afterwards.

IO Interactive don't seem to miss.

Looks like it targets younger audiences, that's cool, I get why they'd want to do that, IOI is a great fit for the franchise, their Hitman games are a little bit more mature and reserved, so it'll be interesting to see how well they pull off typical modern young adult goofy shit.

Not going to watch, want to go in spoilerfree. I love what IOI did with Hitman WoA and I do like spy thrillers so this is an easy, easy buy even if it turns out to be shit.

With the amount of cancelled live services games, I can't really see them announcing a new game this year, since they already announced Saros and Bald Lesbian Space Adventures.

Media Molecule is/was working on a live service game (probably cancelled by now), Bluepoint live service game was cancelled, it's too early for Santa Monica to show anything, it has only been 3 years since Ragnarok, by comparison, it took Sucker Punch 5 years to make a sequel that is impossible to tell apart from the original 90% of the time, so Santa Monica is probably still in the storyboard phase of their next game.
Fairgames and Marathon have already been announced (and either cancelled or a date to shutdown the servers have already been set).
Bend Studio live service game was cancelled.
Guerrilla was busy with helping in Lego Horizon and Death Stranding 2.
Insomniac already announced Wolverine, but it seems to be in development hell.
San Mateo only does MLB, so the only possible announcement is a new GT by Polyphony, but that wouldn't surprise anyone.

If they have anything new to announce, it will be a 3rd party under a marketing or publishing deal.

I just want to see if there is meat to the stealth systems and gadgets you can use, because that's the part that made me excited for IO Interactive being involved.

If it's just standard scripted "cinematic" gameplay where it's just straighforward cover shooter gameplay, and the stealth is throw distraction option to do takedowns Uncharted-level simple...I'll have to pass. I want it to be good though.

I hope this is good.

The problem with Hitman games is they are so wooden, everything is so stiff and flat. The textures in the game are almost non-existant, the game worlds feel so artifical, it's like your playing in a dome, nothing feels real.

Not sure how this game will compare but given they are using the same game engine i have doubts.

I think the game looks cool but dedicating a September State of Play for a multiplatform third-party game slated to release "sometime in 2026" is rather odd.

What is it with all these inflamatory "takes" on this thread based on deeply retarded console war rethorics?

Yeah, everything is bombing so bad that the console continues to break records, that GOTY-caliber releases continue to drop every year from PS Studios and that there is yet another tentpole PS5 exclusive game coming out 4 weeks from now
ND's Uncharted and TLOU are tentpoles; Sucker Punch's Ghosts are mediocre at best.

I don't get the hate for that State of Play, looks amazing to me
"Here is 30 minutes of a game we didn't make, aren't even publishing and is coming out to many other platforms at the same time!
IO could have showed this themselves on their YT channel but, because all we have coming in the near future is a low effort rehash of Ghost of Tsushima assets, we made a marketing deal to show this as a Sony game in hope it fools a few hundred casual gamers.
Please be excited and enjoy!"

It is a little weird, but maybe it's a Q1 or early Q2 game. If it's releasing around March or so, they won't want to wait until next year to give it a release date and they also won't want the release date announcement to get lost in the holiday rush, so now might be the best time.

And? they probably have a marketing deal in place as you said, they'll get many more eyes on their game on a State of Play than their own YouTube channel. But it also works both ways, Bond is still a huge franchise so if people associate the Bond game with PlayStation through marketing and helps boost sales then that's also good for Sony isn't it? That's how marketing deals work is it not?.

Also, its a YouTube video, you don't have to watch it if it doesn't interest you, they do State of Plays quite often and it will happen occasionally that something you aren't interested in is shown (in the case of some of you.... never and you'll let us know about that), it's ok to just not watch it instead of venting your apparent frustration on NeoGaf.

I'm saying that Sony should read the room.
After the failed Live service pursuit, players want assurance that Sony is back in the right direction and a showcase dedicated to a single 3rd party multiplatform game doesn't say that.
They could add a 1st party game to the SoP or announce that there will be another SoP soon with 1st party content.... but they didn't.

They'll do first party when they are ready to do first party, they aren't showing third party releases in place of first party.
And read the room? which room? NeoGaf? sorry, but I don't think NeoGaf is in Sony's thinking when they do State of Plays.

why the hate 007 Uncharted.

Honestly i can't really imagine from a gameplay perspective what genre it could be except a rd person shooter. Probably the biggest difference will be less exploration and more gadgets and probably some car sections (imagine a James Bond without a car section...i hope not)

Bond does not need "exploration" sections. Just make it Uncharted/Blacklist whizz bang fun game and everyone will be happy.

If there's more to it than being a simple Uncharted clone then opinions may change.
Well, the early descriptions implies it might be closer to recent Hitman game with its open-ended structure to fulfill the goals within each level, but will incorporate much more action segments like car chases, more dynamic combat, etc. So question remains what will be the balance of those segments and how much freedom players will actually have

Literally one day left to find out. If a 30 minute gameplay presentation doesn't address this, nothing will. I'm optimistic!
