*sigh*
I was born in the 90s, so I don't know what any of these are:

I'll just stop there. There are 2000-era stuff I do recognize. I just want a 2000s circlejerk thread because I'll be all over it.

2000's? We don't even know what that means yet. You need at least six years to process and define the culture of a decade.

ah yes the 90's! I'm very fond of that decade but I wouldn't say it's "the best" or "better than now". I'm sure a lot of people think their decades are the best whilst others hate it so it's really mostly opinion.

Still though. Very fond memories :) So many great shows and games.

90s was also the greatest era for Comic books. It has been a sharp decline since then in terms of quality storytelling:

90s comics will NEVER be topped

Dunno about that, the 90's were a very polarizing decade for comic books. There were a lot of some stories but there were a ton of really shitty ones too. The Clone Saga anyone? What about the Death and Return of Superman story arc? Or Batman breaking his back and then entrusting his legacy to some random dude he found off the street? Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) killing everyone and just going nuts and becoming evil?

2000's has been a lot better IMO.

Nothing wrong with any of these stories. Death of Superman was like an EVENT back in the 90s it was a big deal like on the news and stuff and the story it self was very memorable. Green Lantern going crazy was kind of tied to that and while it was dumb to get rid of hal and the corps most people now seem to prefer Kyle Rayner so I guess theres that. Batman breaking his back was another iconic story and Bane went on to become one of Batman's top villians. Even being featured in Dark Knight Rising. I don't really consider any of those shitty.

90s for me were all about Darkwing Duck, DBZ, Power Rangers... I lived for Saturday mornings, man.

I had all the original Mighty Morphin' zords that you could transform and fit together to make the Megazord. Shit was off the chain.

Great decade...

Best decade. Yes, it wasn't the technological marvel we all live in today, but it was a great decade to be a kid in. I wish there was a TV channel that only showed 90s shows, with 90s commercials.

obviously it's not the technological marvel of today, we're 20 years ahead. but the technology that came was more world shaking. the penetration of internet and cell phones for one. cheaper PCs. advent of 3D in video games. today we get prettier 3D but it's really been there, done that. can you remember the first time you played a 3D game in your PlayStation, Saturn, N64 or home PC? it was life changing.

I remember being quite fascinated by all the avenues for exploration in the 90's. Technology and science in general really felt like it was going somewhere.

I couldn't get enough of science as a kid.

Anyone remember the Tomorrow People on Nickleodeon? Or Eerie Indiana?
200px-Eerie_Indiana_-_DVD.jpg

I miss those days so much. When only real nerds were on the internet lol.
You can't even have Home Alone today because Kevin could just text his mom or something.
Whole movie plots have been taken away due to the abundance of cell phones. It's a conspiracy!

edit for picture.
Ohhh damn, I used to watch Eerie Indiana.

I'm sure it'll look like ass now, but as a kid it was fun.

It actually stands up surprisingly well for a show aimed at kids. I bought the complete DVD set from Amazon a couple of years back (UK link) and had no trouble blasting through the whole thing. I'm sure I couldn't say the same for most TV shows mentioned in this thread.

I may have to do this now. Watched it for the first time when it was rerun in the mid-90s on Fox Kids and really enjoyed it. Glad to hear it still holds up well.

The amount of 90s nostalgia here at NeoGaf is astounding sometimes. I am 27, so I fit right into the crowd that should be nostalgic for the 90s (and I am!), but sometimes it gets to be a bit much. We have threads like these so frequently.

I guess I'm being a party pooper, so I'll contribute.

zbots were the bomb

ZBOTS!!! Omg I got those as a kind on base in Germany right before we came back to the US to visit. Wow..forgot about those

The forum desperately, desperately needs a consolidating mechanism for these 90's nostalgia threads. We have over a dozen of them in just the past year, everything from cartoons, music, snacks, to movies and more. Perhaps a general 1990's nexus thread with links to smaller subsections dedicated to pop/indie music, art, cartoons, movies, way of life, etc. As more of the early to mid millenails age, the demand will only grow for this.

Though the main question continues to be, will such pent up 90's nostalgia be transferable to mainstream and indie music a la the 80's retro movement in the last 4-5 years (originating around 10 years ago).

A weird fever dream decade where the west got drunk on its conviction that history had ended and it had won, before reality hit and things returned to normal.

I just realized something. Anyone else remember those Digivice toys from Digimon? Just think for a moment about the hand motion that we had to do as kids just to play with those damn things.

'92 here...
there's some stuff in op that i don't recognize, that's probably because i'm not from the US but i have to say that that op really throws me back.

This right here man. I remember having to beg pops to turn on the net so I could surf or play on MSN Zone, or i'd make up some reason why I needed to get online like, " Dad our encyclopedias don't have the information."

Seeing this screen always meant I was about to have a good time.
