zbots were the bomb

Holy shit I completely forgot about yak baks and zbots!

Still my favorite album by them. Make Yourself was alright, and I liked Morning View quite a bit. After that, each album has had less songs I actually like. I really miss the sound they had on that album and their previous stuff.

I agree although there are a few gems on the others...

Adolescents on If not now, when?

Dig on Light Grenades

Rogues on Light Grenades

GAF doesn't seem to like this show, it's barely ever mentioned and whenever someone does that comment is ignored. Do a Google search for 3rd Rock on NeoGAF and you'll know what I mean.

I'm part of GAF and I liked the show. It was one of the few sitcoms I liked, just because of how different it was.

An Incubus related post in the first few posts? Hells yeah!

I really enjoyed the 90's... mainly because I was a kid growing up. I've been on a 90's music binge whenever I'm in a bar with friends. We try to play some classic 90's tunes to sing to or pump people full of nostalgia. We usually play stuff like:

Gin Blossoms
New Radicals - Only Get What You Give
Third Eye Blind
Europop Dance stuff (Ace of Base, La Bouche, Real McCoy, Snap!, Vengaboys, Robin S., Corona, etc... give me more ideas for this category)
Mariah Carey
Boyz II Men
N'Sync/Backstreet Boys/98 Degrees/Next/Mark Morrison

I think I had every Animorph book and VHS that they put on the market. Probably still have some toys back at my dads place.
I see Scholastic recently started re-releasing the books with awful lenticular covers.

That's a totally legitimate reason. Because I wasn't a kid then, I don't have nostalgia for the decade, which I think was below average, from a pop culture standpoint -- except maybe regarding movies.

A few TV shows still hold up (e.g., Seinfeld and some of the genre favorites: Twin Peaks, Buffy, Babylon 5, etc.). But scripted TV has gotten much better, since.

Books were... okay. Wonder Boys, The Virgin Suicides, and Game of Thrones came out, so that's good. Kurt Vonnegut released Hocus Pocus in 1990. But it's still the weakest decade of the last half of the 1900s -- and the 2000s have been better.

The music, though -- at least the music that was most popular -- it was really bad, unless you grew up hearing it. The dance pop was forgettable, and the whole wave of "alternative" rock (where every other band bent over backwards to sound as much like Nirvana and Pearl Jam as possible) is almost unlistenable now.

More than anything, though, I can't forgive the 90s for the band Live, whose horrific single "Lightning Crashes" had this line: "Her placenta falls to the floor." What the fuck.

During an internship job, a old 90's pop song played. I once told my superior (we were in the same car going back to the office) that I missed the 90's, reminisced on how great things where. She is around the same age as me, now probably late 20's. She simply said,

"I don't."

This is when I remember she and her family left Kosovo when she was a kid during the Bosnian War, and then all the other wars and such. I felted like such an idiot afterward but nothing really happened afterwards.

Thus, it was a great time to be a kid in North America, but not so much in Kosovo.

/pointless anecdote

90s was a pretty shit time in a lot of the world. Really only good for North America/Western Europe. Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa were not having a very good time until the 2000s.

i can't believe you forgot this guy

you suck.

this whole thread is just awful, and you should feel awful. >=[

i dont really consider Courage a 90s thing. It had like 2 episodes before 2000. <3 Courage though.

edit:

i remember during Desert Storm some kids did a walkout. One of my teachers about had a coronary because "this is nothing like Vietnam."

Like the 80s, i remember great music of all genres coming out constantly.

Remember him? i recall people swamping Kinkos printing out the report and then going off to sell outside bookstores for a lower price than the paperback.

Best videogaming decade
Best anime decade
Politicians that knew what the hell were doing (Helmut Khol, Bill Clinton, Felipe Gonzalez)
Spielberg on his prime
Sweet spot transition between playing in the backyard and the arrival of the Internet

Yup, these were our "roaring thirties"

I think the 80s are way more overrated than the 90s -- but also much better.

(As far as music, though, the 70s are so vastly superior to both that it's not even close.)

considering the 90s told the 80s that hair metal was fucking stupid it'll always be better

Anyone remember the Tomorrow People on Nickleodeon? Or Eerie Indiana?
200px-Eerie_Indiana_-_DVD.jpg

I miss those days so much. When only real nerds were on the internet lol.
You can't even have Home Alone today because Kevin could just text his mom or something.
Whole movie plots have been taken away due to the abundance of cell phones. It's a conspiracy!

edit for picture.

Ah, yes, the 90s. The decade where my brother got into a car wreck and couldn't let us know about it until he got home because my mom was on the Internet.

As someone said, you left out xfiles, as well as three star trek series, and also buffy. man, I miss the 90s. Also movies like jurrassic park and id4 that were gamechanging.

Total nostalgia from those images. Cool OP. Yeah, it is mostly material shit but who cares :P

Pre-internet times!
