I sort of am excited... I will pick it up at lunch on the 21st., I will probably buy a copy for my parents and my sister and brother-in-law... I am sick of seeing my 4 year old nephew play only with cars, time to get him into spaceships.

Anyways... I cannot wait to see a beautiful copy of Star Wars, I threw in the VHS tapes prior to the SE crap and they are starting to look aged... they were never opened until last month... so it is crazy how time screws up tapes.

I just wish that the Star Wars DVD's would have the ET type of treatment... the untouched version and the special edition version... I know it has been beat like a dead horse in the forums...

Reviews are starting to roll out; I think Ron Epstein from Hometheaterforum has his up (or rather the review from the Star Wars event in June.)

A couple of the changes in ANH are up too

Greedo and Han

New Jabba

EDIT: Okay, all set

Well my local Saturday Matinee have been playing the DVD's in order to get people to preorder it. So I have seen all the changes, and they are pretty good. Unfortunately not much was changed with the "HAN SHOOTS FIRST" scene, but oh well, Lucas is Lucas. I think the movies looks absolutely amazing in terms of the picture quality. I am definately gonna get this set, because unlike the prequels, these movies were good.

Okay, I am brain dead here but does this 4 disc trilogy contain just the SE versions or the originals, or both?

Gracias. :)

I need to get me some copies of the original laserdiscs ripped to DVD.

Only if I had a DVD burner...

Anyways, I'll be buying this and taking all the changes like a true Star Wars fan.

That'd be bent over the table with no vaseline.

Neither. This version is the PCE version. That's Prequel-Compliant Edition. :p

oh yeah, i've been looking for an excuse to post this...

For any Star Wars haters that come in here to troll, i have this to say to you. :)

I'm not overly excited, but it'll be good to watch them again in a super sweet transfer, even with some less-than-ideal changes. I haven't watched any of them in a few years, so that'll be nice.

Yea, I'll probably end up buying these. I have the SE VHS tapes, but no VCR anymore. Could care less about the changes to the old cooter in the Darth Vader costume and the Emperor or to see the 8 billion added blaster shots to give arguments on whether Han or Greedo shot first (as if the whole ordeal is on par with the JFK assassination).

Will be a hell of a lot of fun to watch all 3 again and see whatever special features are on the discs. The DVD menus should be a hoot too.

I'm starting to get excited about Star Wars again.

So close so close. Already have a set reserved, not it's just getting through the wait... lucky I have the originals on VHS to keep me company, and no added or cutscnes! Huzzah!. I can't wait to compare the two.

Do they really expect people to believe he could miss from that close of a range? lol

I don't really care, but it's just a new spin for people to bitch about.

Not so long before the Special Editions came out on theaters, the idea that Greedo was supposedly one of the clumsiest bounty hunters in the galaxy was getting sold hard to the fans via stories, and bios from the Star Wars Guide to Characters.

At first it was thought that it was merely just more indepth info about a character, but now it's clear that it was a pre-emptive damage control campaign, masterminded and orchestrated by George "Satan" Lucas himself for the SE changes.

I am not even remotely excited about the trilogy. I'm definitely not buying it and if one of my parental units even thinks about buying me a copy for Christmas, it'll be returned the very next day.

Damn, I did not know about that. It just adds to my feeling of how much of an asshat Lucas (Lickass) is.

I love how I know people who won't shut up about how Lucas has "ruined their childhoods" and the such, yet they'll be first in line to get these.

I for one am not going to pay a red cent and will proudly pirate them.

I already have seen the 'new' versions of ESB and ROTJ, so I'm not hyped to see any new changes. A lot of it is Bullshit, like Jango Fett doing all the stormtrooper voices, they don't sound anything like him. So they either modified his voice recordings or didn't do it.

They are the same fucking movies, Lucas just tweaks here and there. None have any impact on the movies whatsoever.

Quitchyobitchin.

But I have them preordered. Just because.

I would like to be in the same room as someone watching the new Jedi who hadn't heard about the Hayden swap. I can only imagine the reaction...

Yet all of the Clonetroopers sound like him. And the Clonetroopers are eventually transformed into Stormtroopers when the Empire takes over (just look at what the ROTS Clonetroopers look like), so why wouldn't the Stormtroopers sound like him if they are still clones?

Personally I like my spaceships without grey boxes around them and my moon size bases not exploding like someone tied a fire cracker to it....but that just may be me. I know other poeple might like the scene where leia shoot the rafter above the toopers head and he just falls over a couple of seconds later.

A couple of things I don't get people bitch about wanting Star Wars in it's orginal form but protest the additiona jabba scene which was orignally supposed to be in it!? Why do I have the feeling that people who are rabbling for the orginal are the same people who support the shitty modernised MTV remakes of great classic?

Oh I got your oringal Star Wars right HERE

Something that always pops in my head when I hear this argueement is the Maxim Interview with Lucas. They asked him if he could go back and change EP1 would he...his response was that he doesn't think that way.....hmmmm

Presonally some of the additions are a bit nnesicary like the new dioalogue between Vader and The Emperor, Haden Christiansen....they could have fixed some of the gapping plotholes instead of adding more.

There's probably like 20-22 years between Attack of the Clones & Episode III and A New Hope, and if you compare the behavior of the Clones to the Stormtrooper you can notice that they aren't docile, fearless and nearly flawless, in fact Stormtroopers are chicken shits, clumsy, easily fooled and they even socialize with eachother. Clonetroopers were basically emotionless human beings.

That and the fact that the Imperial Academy has been recluting troops for quite a while before A New Hope. The whole Jango/Stormtroopers voice is just another half assed thing Lucas threw together to tie the prequels into the old trilogy.

The Imperial Academy is for Imperial Navy officers. Not Stormtroopers. The only requirement is you have to be British.

Well, they have already replaced the stoned Yoda puppet in Episode I with the CG model from Episodes II and III.

And you shouldn't complain about gaping plot holes when there is still a movie that's not out yet.

There are so many mass media products competing for my precious few entertainment dollars right now that this will have to go on the backburner. I don't know if or when I'll pick it up.

I have original VHS widescreen editions (Dolby, not THX) that've been kept in a temperate environment and viewed, I think, four times each at the most--maybe I'll pull them out for a viewing.

Damn, all this time and no one else besides me has contributed to Princess Leia cosplay pics. I'm disappointed in you, GAF. :(

hell, they have already replaced the stoned Yoda puppet in Episode I with the CG model from Episodes II and III.

I've heard rumors of a rerelease of Episode 1, but have seen nothing concrete, i.e. a date. I think its BS.

I really only want to own Empire on widescreen DVD. Will single DVDs be released as well, or will I have to buy the complete set?

The Episode I DVD is out of print right now. They probably won't release the updated version until the Saga Collection DVD set (I-VI) in 2007/2008.

I'm not excited and don't know why anyone would be. Everyone has seen these shitty films a dozen times. They've been released a countless number of times.

I recently watched my old VHS copies of the original trilogy pre-Lucased. It was the first time I'd watched a VHS tape in about 6 years. Within 3 seconds of firing up ANH I knew I was going to buy this new DVD: VHS picture quality could suck a monkey through ten feet of garden hose.

Oh God I'm spoilt...

I'm going to head over to my friend who designs home theater systems. His house rocks. Weee!
