The Heat beating the Jazz in Utah was a really good win even if was ref assisted and the Jazz were pretty tired.
I know the Magic catch a lot of shit here, but we did beat them big early in the year (despite losing big to them too, and playing them while they were injured)

In the midst of all the Laker doom-and-gloom, I just noticed Orlando Magic is 16-12? 4-game losing streak? Tied with New York Knicks? What's going on here?

The Magic have one good player and teams have finally figured that out. And they've lost 8 of their last 9.

I give LA a pass for last night. Their only focus is not becoming the Heat's first "statement" win.

LA will not become the Heat's first "statement" win.
just give them a pass until the all-star break.
this is a phil jackson-led lakers team where they can give two shits about the first half of the season.
you would think after 7 championship runs, people would be more coolheaded about the current state of this laker squad.

Apparently not.

But whatever, so far this is par for the course.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers lose on Christmas. Their recent record for Christmas day games haven't been stellar.

That's not an excuse, they should use this opportunity to erase any doubt about which team is the real contender. If they don't show up for this game, they don't deserve shit. I don't care how early in the season we are in, it's a statement game. This is if they don't 'show up' for the game, not necessarily if they lose.

Too bad both teams can't lose. I think I may have to do the unthinkable and root for the Pond because I'm still too disgusted with the Miami transaction.

you'd be nuts not to want it to happen
If he extends, sure. But I don't want to give up anything of value for a Melo who's pining for NY.

It's nice of them to take a dive to make Christmas that much nicer.

there are plenty of american figure of speech phrases.
what really bugs the shit out of me is when norcal folks use the word "hecka"
its "hella", you dumbasses.

I think TCB is more pointing out that the phrase is, can't give two shits. As in, can't be bothered with effort. You're saying, they can be.

Also, whilst heck isn't interchangeable in most places with hell, it certainly does exist as an expression on its own.

Jazz only one game out of the #3 seed. Really need that seed to get home court over the Lakers and to avoid the Thunder/Lakers in round one. They really needed it last year as well (Would have given them the Blazers in round one and the Spurs in round two) and they missed it by one game. Hopefully they get it this time around.

I guess when you've never won anything, statement games are in December and not June.

Nope, troll all you want. Just don't expect an "OMG WE ARE IN TROUBLE!". Yea, I'll get pissed over some losses, but it's hard to complain because that's just how we roll. We know it works.

Now, if it was a team that was still trying to find itself, had Joel Anthony, and had been curbstomped by their main Eastern rival twice, that'd be different.

No, F getting a pass, this time. This is bigger than the Lakers, and it's not about LA needing to make a statement. This is about the balance of Heat coverage going forward in to 2011.

If LA loses on the 25th, we will have to hear about it until the end of a regular season. Your bros in yellow need to do us ALL a big favor.

For the Greater Good, please murder that team!

Since when did Phil Jackson become such a fucking whiner?

Phil Jackson Dislikes Expanded Christmas Day Schedule

RealGM said:
Phil Jackson is tired of having to coach on Christmas Day and also dislikes the NBA's expanded holiday schedule.

"It used to be two teams," Jackson said. "It used to be Phoenix and L.A. and New York and Boston or New York and Philly or somebody on the East coast. Now I see that they have like six games on Christmas."

There are actually five games schedule this season, including the Heat at the Lakers.

"I don't think anybody should play on Christmas Day," Jackson said. "Soccer teams don't play this time of year, they take a break. I don't understand it.

Kobe Bryant has played on Christmas Day 13 times in his 15-year career.

"It's like Christian holidays don't mean anything to them anymore," said Jackson. "We just go out and play and entertain the TV. It's really weird."

Got a point there. It would be nice to see this Lakers team actually motivated.

He's been this way forever. Easily the most annoying person in sports especially since you can't say he's annoying without some Laker slurping ESPN people saying that he's getting in your head.

Award time for 1/3 through the season!

MVP: Dirk
CotY: Pops
General Manager of the Year: Kevin O'Connor (Utah Jazz)
MIP: CJ Miles
6MotY: Jason Terry
DPotY: Bogut

Jazz get two awards and are close in three others: Hopefully they finally get some awards after all the robbing they've gotten recently. AK47 losing DPotY and MIP in 2004 was shameful not even mentioning the robbing that Sloan and Deron have gotten over the years.

12.3PPG on 41FG% won't get you MIP.

Check the advanced $tat$

NET PER: +4
+/-: +17
Simple rating: +8.4

His shooting/scoring are terrible because he can only shoot and finish 2 out of every 4 games so he'll score 20, 4, 20, 4 while still shooting 13 times a game. His PER is up 50% YoY. And he just looks completely different. Before I'd scream for him not to shoot and now (In half the games anyway) I want him to shoot all the time. His rebounding, defense, and passing is also way better this year. He's easily the most improved player in the NBA.

Also, no way Riley isn't the front-runner for Executive of the Year, especially in this media climate.

He's on a major upswing though. If he continues like this, his numbers will be noticeably better by the time they actually award these things.
Then in that case, Wesley Matthews will get it. He's been on a tear as a starter (20PPG, 48.5FG%, 3.8RPG, 40.7-3PT%) which is double from his games as a starter on the Jazz last year.

Jeff-DSA said:
Just when he's had his stacked teams though. Never has anybody done more with more though, I'll give you that.
I'll disagree. That 2006 LA team had no business winning 45 games. Their starters were...

Smush Parker, Kobe Bryant, Brian Cook, Lamar Odom, Chris Mihm (when not injured, otherwise Kwame started).

Is it just me or is ESPN's basketball coverage becoming more and more INsider only? They never used to put those articles on the front page but now it happens more and more often and usually for basketball. Football? Not so much. MLB? Sometimes, but not as frequently.

But when it comes to the NBA and either statistical breakdowns or comparisons, its usually INsider only. Kind of makes me sad. Now I can't get commentary from them even if I look for it. Sad. :lol

Wes has always been really good. CJ went from being a scrub to being a third or fourth option on a fringe championship contender in one season. He's been horrible throughout his entire career and now he's to the point where he can drop 20-5-5-2-2 on every other night. And I'm not choosing who will win, but who should.

edit: Though CJ's improvement did start last season in the playoffs, but that was after the award for the 2009-2010 MIP was given out.

Yeah, I'd actually buy your Wes Matthews argument as he's had to step up and play really well through adversity. That dude is proving he didn't just have a lucky rookie season. He can ball.

Eh?

Miles averaged 10PPG on 43FG%, 2.7RPG, and 1.8APG last season in 63 games.

I know you're choosing who should win, but Miles should not win.

Sounds like a perfect match for the Mavs, since they both always quit when they're ahead.
