I really didn't care for it. There was nothing to make the characters engaging, interesting in the first episode (well, maybe the supernatural stuff, but that's just dumb). But what was the main reason I think it failed is that there was absolutely no build-up and you can't make a good detective story if you've known the victim and the perpetrator for a minute, because it's impossible to care.
Gosick was better, dropped.

Zero no Tsukaima S3 9-12: Nice little arc, friendship is amazing, etc. etc. But man, once Tabitha decided Saito was her hero, she went all out. She has no problem just taking Saito for her own and running off. She's pretty amazing behind that cold exterior. I'm still in the Princess camp though, not that Saito deserves any of them to be honest.

Gilgamesh is such a smug bastard. CG Beserker was pretty decent as far as CG things go, they did a good job masking him with lots of effects and so on.

I like this show, but the clunk way they use and overuse flashbacks kind of brings it down. There's way too many episodes where what's happening in the present feels like little more than an excuse to string together chains of flashbacks. There has to be a better way to present backstory than this.

Chihayafuru's been really good so far, not on Honey & Clover level of emodrama yet but good enough...
Couldn't really bother with anything else this season, was looking forward to Fate Zero since I liked what Ufotable did with Kara No Kyoukai movies, but first FZ episode was rather unimpressive ...does it get radically better later on?

Fate/Zero could have easily been fixed if episodes 4 and 5 were the pilot and then they flashed back to all the boring stuff in the first three episodes. Not that 4 and 5 were anything special, but if you need to infodump, they were at least more palatable as exposition-porn episodes.

If you dislike exposition and backstory go watch some other fighting shonen where that stuff is at a minimum

Besides, on this series in particular, if the episode order was 4-5-1-2-3, you could have the same information given to the audience without people (at least people in this thread) complaining about the slow burn of the pilot.

Now that I mentioned Kara No Kyoukai, I went to check what directors behind the movies are working on now, Takayuki Hirao who did 5th, the best one, is working on Gyo OVA (based on horror manga), to be released this winter... looking forward to that I guess...

This show continues to be great, really; I'm almost amazed at just how well this show is being directed atm.
Though, with that said, I hit a funny snag with this ep. With the show being directed to be such the non-anime, rather than being a passover, or even funny, Katanashi's incredibly anime~ish fixation on little things actually came across incredibly creepy in this ep. I have to say, this is the first time I've come across that issue. That's an accomplishment.

The triumphant return of what this show has been missing: SEIZON SENRYAKU! Also: WATCH OUT MR PRESIDENT! Plus the intrigue surrounding Sanetoshi deepens.

That was a lot closer in terms of composition to last season than any of the previous four episodes. There were none of the weird pauses after each line of dialogue that were rampant as of lately, giving it a quicker flow in general. A+
