That's fine and all, but I can't understand why you'd want to expose yourself to that other show.
There's really no good excuse for it, so I probably just like torturing myself with it.

Maybe I'm just looking for any excuse to put off watching the first episode of Fate/Zero, which I'm really interested in but can't help but find the introduction to be outlandishly impenetrable.

Last Exile 2 Episode 4

Not much happened in this episode, but it did pretty much confirm the theory that
the Prester Exile is the last to return to Earth and hasn't been back long.

I think their turn-around is going to happen soon, but still do things the same way. Their post-airing products are reaaaaaally great compared to the TV airings, and give huge incentive to buy them even though you may have seen the TV version.

I like SHAFTS shaftiness. Now that I know that it is cost cutting measures I kind of like the idea even more. At least they are really creative about cutting corners.

And Jexhius, or has he had that for a while and I only noticed it today.

Nobody was probably ever wondering or wanted to know, but the extra episode of Onii-chan no Koto is one of the worst things I've ever had the displeasure of watching.

And then one guy started pouring grated cheese on to another guys lap to make a pizza. An offer was made to eat the melting cheese and I thought to myself, "Somehow even this isn't able to redeem such a bad episode."

See this is why you leave these type of shows to ABF.

Not much to say. They cut out the sushi part, but it wasn't super important in the first place.

On episode 10 of the original series, so we'll probably get to the tower in 2 episodes or so. Then we'll really know to what extent stuff is being censored.

The way things are going we may get to the tower in the next episode, but yeah the real censorship test will probably be in two episodes.

I'd like to note that the creepiness in Hisoka's voice was there in the previous episode and I'm slowly warming up to it, but it still doesn't touch the original.

I think this sentiment has been typed every week by at least one person for 6 weeks now.

It's like we're anticipating the series to turn ass at some point. :(

You know, if there was a version of this show for old white British poets, I probably would have cared more about Spencer's Faerie Queen and the headbanging stuff of that ilk.

Its always the safe approach to take in this medium.

By your definition, probably so.
By any sane definition! :)
A Black Falcon said:
No, when I think of a crossdressing scenario, my first thought is a guy dressing as a girl because a girl convinced him to and he agreed (or, more rarely, because he actually wants to), not because he has no choice. You are right that there are some of that type, but in recent years, I think the former type is the more common one...
The guy like never agrees. What shit are you watching where the guy wants to? You just got Wandering Son on loop or something? No matter, it's still rarely funny.
A Black Falcon said:
Sure, yeah, but if it's funny, I can overlook things like that, sometimes anyway.
You should just be honest and say you like it when people cross-dress, then what would I do? Nothing!
A Black Falcon said:
But between the girls' reactions and the words the guy beating him were saying, it sure seemed like the show was trying to make clear that this was a worse than normal beating... and also, the guy wasn't even trying to get a bento, he was just beating him in order to beat him up and hurt him, and make people angry. Those are different situations.
Worse than the normal beating? He didn't even have to go to the hospital AND he remembered his classmates, Seems like this Monarch dude's a lightweight as Yarizui not only knocked his ass out but fucking erased the day from his memory. But anyways, so I guess this was worse, somehow. it's a territorial fight, one a wolf will fight, they were on his territory after all and oddly enough this is coming right after an episode that dealt with just this kind of shit which had Yarizui and Shaga squaring off.

So no, the weird is not that the current stomping ground head is kicking an outsider's ass but why Saito's ass anyways? Why not Yarizui? Why would beating Saito up cause a war when he's not really that high up? That's what you should be looking at not thinking about how over the top it is that he got beat up, and let off lighter than when he wasn't even a combatant.

For all the joking about Madhouse being dead, I'm grateful that they can make something like Chihayafuru while taking their last breaths.

After watching the fantastic opening for two hours the first episode was quite nice too. It makes me a little sad that Production-"let's use CGI for everything "-I.G was a great team for hand-drawn action sequences back in the 80s and 90s.

See, there were moe characters back then, but nobody called them moe.
Everybody just had to come up with a catchword to describe them just like everything else these days.

Another strong episode, this series has only gotten better as it has moved along.

The poetry lesson was welcome, I hope it becomes a frequent part of the series. The poem's history combined with the imagery used was very pleasing. It would definitely be a good way to spice up the karuta games if they started using visual metaphors and such to go with the cards.

It's hard to describe moe.
It's like love, you just feel it and it makes you feel good.

My main issue with this episode is that I found history nerd girl to be a really dull character. There are ways to make this type of characters work without them coming off as dullards and stick in the muds and so far she did not leave a good impression on me. Not a dealbreaker by any means but still a tad disappointing.

On the upside, the art in the show continues being fantastic and almost makes the whole thing worth it all by itself. The visuals during the representation of the poem's significance were nothing short of beautiful. Madhouse is really bringing it for this one and I am thankful for that.

Put me in the list of people who hopes against all hope that the show doesn't take a nosedive later on.

Amazingly, that sweater scene is even funnier in context when it happens during the episode. Hell, the entire first half was critical levels of adorable, especially the first couple of minutes. She just wanted to read her book...

Ranma 101-09:

Huh, so you have a romcom where both leads are tsundere for each other. They really don't make 'em like they used to.

I'm also taken aback by the sheer amount of tits in the show. Was Ranma originally broadcast as a trashy late night show like MajiKoi or something?

The better question is why is Ranma the only one who gets to keep his clothes on? Everyone else prances around naked when they transform. No fair.

Maybe it's early on, but so far Ranma's the only one who has been naked so far...

I think they tone it down towards the end. I don't remember there being much tits when I was watching. Although it could have been the censoring.

And yes, they do tone down on it as the show goes on. Disappointing, I know.

Watching these two episodes back to back kind of highlights a problem the series has run into. Episode 17 isn't exactly a poorly made episode, but it's a character based one that doesn't really have anything to say. We already have the basics on Makoto, so when an entire episode hones in on her it kind of has to delve deeper to remain interesting. After 16 episodes where Makoto has popped up time and time again, it feels pretty hollow when the show only hints at her history and tries make the point that she wants to be a girl and all but stoically plays to her more masculine appearance. In the end it feels like episode is more about the Producer fostering stronger relationships with the idols, but he's kind of still just a dolt, so we're left with a waste of an episode.

Episode 18 on the other hand features Ritsuko, a character who is often left on the periphery of the show, especially as an idol. There was a lot of new information covered here in an engaging and relevant way, and despite the plot being relatively confined to a single episode it seemed to progress well, helping to bring a sense of needed gravity to a series that can often feel very disposable. It might be a difficult task for the series to make other character based episodes as interesting as this one because we know so much about the other idols. Ideally the show will break into the multi-episode Jupiter clash arc it's been setting up for so long sooner rather than later.

I think she helps add a new dimension of katura players that the series hasn't really had yet, and it's nice to be able to see how Chihaya interacts with another girl. Even in just this episode she was a good way for the show to give some more substantial meaning to some of the cards. I found myself really liking her as an addition to their club.

I think that's a good point - so far, the poems have just been treated as game pieces and not as real poetry. It's a nice reminder that they just aren't words on cards anyway.

Nude Panda and nude Pig. Hot.
But, I guess I can deal with fewer random tit shots. It just seems like every transformation is an excuse to show Ranma in a ripped blouse/shirt though.

Speaking of Idolmaster, I saw an episode the other day.

Idolmaster - 07

I liked this episode because I find Yayoi's character interesting. If the show was just about these 3 girls, I'd like it more but we have to suffer through episodes with emo-girl, bigboobs and insane manhater. This also has minimal Producer screentime which is always great.

That's like, your opinion, man. I can sort of already see what her shtick is gonna be and I'm not liking it. I hope to be proven wrong though.

But for all intents and purposes they are just words on cards. No amount of 'heart of the cards' shoujofication is gonna really change that.

History girl was pretty cool in Chihayafuru. Made me wonder if other members will have similar quirks in that they all view Karuta differently from each other, though I don't know how else to view the game, maybe somebody who focuses on how the poems are said? Karuta is still boring though and it doesn't help that they added a chick who only likes talking about history, don't get me wrong history is probably one of my favorite subjects but when the main "gimmick" of the show is already so dull adding history of some old ass poets to it isn't doing it any favors. A constant positive aspect of this show is the art, it's damn beautiful. The scene where the history girl explains Chihayafuru poem was gorgeous.

EDIT: The team from Giant Killing didn't always win.
