It has boobs, so it's okay, right?

Unfortunately it even fails at being a raunchy fanservice show because Inori.

Is this from Guilty Crown? If so I'll have to catch up.

Started Code Geass because of all the praise. Thought it was another mindless Mecha action thingie, I guess I was wrong.

What the show's about doesn't bother me, it's how it communicates that. and while I very much enjoy the show when it communicates it right, episodes like 15 "Savior of the World" (the worst offender) end up with conflicting messages, lowering the potential impact and trivializing any emotional trauma that the characters are feeling only to expect us to take it seriously later on. There's no meaning behind it, and while I still enjoy it, Mawaru Penguin Drum has alot of serious issues with its structure and writing in relation to its genre mix. It just doesn't work sometimes, and it shows, blatantly, and in the end, I feel used, the bad used.
I laughed at the beginning of 15 and was moved at the end, so no problem here. For me the biggest problem with the show has been a stretch in the latter half of the show with too many deepening mysteries and not enough genuine development of plot or character. It would be better off with just a few less twists.

The deepening mysteries have been implied for some time now, so they're nothing new, and the character development has been its strongest yet, getting into the underlying motivations of the characters. It's just been the presentation of those aspects that have bothered me, particularly the conflicting lights that these developments have been put under, particularly in episode 15.

Makoto Shinkai just invented housekeeping porn.

DAT DAILY ROUTINE.

Whats wrong with Inori?

She's boring beyond human imagination. Actually, all 3 main characters are (Shu, Gai, Inori) and when you consider how awesome Lelouch, Spinzaku, and Kallen were, it's not hard to imagine why GC has been such a failure at living up to CG. It starts with the 3 mains and just keeps going from there.

Kallen wasn't a main character.
She was one of the worst characters in the show, too.
The main characters of Code Geass were Lelouch, Suzaku and CC.

This episode was pretty cute, uh in a way. Seems more like a bonus for fans of the franchise but it was still an enjoyable break from the main story.

Fanservice and good direction are mutually exclusive now? That might usually be the case, but not here.
No, that's always the case. "Fanservice" is inherently just pointless pandering. So when you have a plot that goes nowhere and you just show off a bunch of barely covered girl parts there is little to do that would qualify as "good direction". When every other shot has to be below a girl's waist artistic merit is questionable at best.

Did I enjoy Ben-to 09? Kind of, but not because it was well done in any way, shape or form. It was plodding, self-absorbed, pointless, and poorly constructed. But at least it had two girls rubbing each other in bed I guess.

Bakuman 2 10

I would read Hitman 10. However Future Watch seems like it would be cooler. I love the tension, if we can get Miura away as well as moving Nakai out the plot while keeping Aoki, then the next 14 or so episodes would be awesome.

No, dumping someone out of a plane may not be enough to kill them. Make sure to shoot them in the head when they're on the way down to earth.

Sexually titillating fanservice and competent direction aren't mutually exclusive because not all sexually titillating fanservice is the same. I haven't watched Ben-To past episode 3 and I don't particularly care about it, but competent direction is more about being smooth and believable, which is something completely different from realistic, than about not being pointless.

[firehawk]I really don't get your complaint about "pointless pandering", either. I mean, you could actually say that most action scenes, in both animation and live-action, are primarily "fanservice"/"pointless pandering".[/firehawk]

The only way to be absolutely sure is to double-tap them on the way down!

But how were the clouds?
Amazing. It's like with each movie, Shinkai comes closer to making the perfect cloud, at the expense of any cohesive story.

His last movie, at this rate, would be a 2 hour long feature film on skyscapes, and will contain no plot at all.

It will bring grown men to tears.

I'm the only one who has fun with all Shinkai movies? Sometimes I don't understand why we hate some animes but loving bad stuff like K-ON! or Inori.

Just call it Waganai.

And just watch Voices of a Distant Star. lol

I've seen it :lol I asked that question because people usually dock Shinkai movies for repetitiveness but I still enjoy them individually.

K-On is a very well made show. You don't have to like it to appreciate the care and quality put into it.

And Inori... has umm... a nice design, yeah that's it.
