Write about 300 or something. Frank Miller always fills his work with controversial stuff.
It has to be an anime(anime analysis course). Which makes my life infinitely harder. There really isn't many social arguments or controversial stances in anime.
Oh Jesus. That would go over well. Would be entertaining though.
Trying to come up with one. It just has to be a 13 page argumentative paper on an anime/animes.

If you want social commentary and controversial statements, though, Arjuna is seriously where you need to go first.
To be serious, use something crazy overused, like Grave or Barefoot Gen. WW2 from the eyes of the Japanese.

Well, it depends on when his paper is due. He might actually not have a bunch of time to marathon an anime just to write a paper about it.
If he wrote about Grave of the Fireflies the instructor would probably roll his eyes. Like nobody's ever written about THAT before!
We actually watched that in class so I can just say I was referring to class material.
I'll try to see if I can tie Evangelion into this as well.
naruto and bleach have the same schedule and dont have quite as bad a fluctuation
Rosario to Vampire and Mahoraba seemed to have a weird stance on alter egos being quite important to the detriment of the real self. ie. The real Moka is pretty underdeveloped as a result of the pink-haired Moka goes to school, makes friends and finds love.
Oh, so it doesn't need to be one anime in particular, but the medium as a whole. For a quick and easy one, you can take the contrarian stance and attempt to build an argument for anime and its social implications. And I only say contrarian since anime in general catches such a bad rap, but, in the end, it does all depend on the teacher. Is he/she a self-hating nerd? If yes, build an argument for anime. If he/she can go kawaii desu ne and not mean it ironically: write one against it. That's only one simple example though. Convincingly going against the teachers grain works everywhere, however.
Kino's Journey is an easy one. It's basically a series of moral tales and fables concerning modern society told through the framing device of a travel narrative. Not as biting as Swift, but it echoes Gulliver's Travels in many ways. Aside from that, Gunslinger Girl goes into very specific questions of child soldiers, experimental medicine, and civil unrest without anyone being right or wrong.
Hell, you could even watch Hidan no Aria and talk about the decadence of the 80s and 90s and the imprint it makes on following generations as a mirror to Aria's continuing struggle against ancestral enemies herself, how the blood feuds rage on to the suffering of our children and such.
I mean, it's really not difficult to put together an anime paper. You can use the media as a reflection of the culture, or how the culture is being reflected on by the culture. You can really take any stance you feel if you can put some words behind it.
You should probably be careful if you go down a route like this. It can be difficult to differentiate the post-WW2 feelings of distrust towards other (particularly Western) nations with the isolationist sensibilities that dominated Japan in the face of globalization.

I would be careful with Evangelion. There is a LOT of false symbolism and feints of narrative. If you end up putting your whole paper on a faulty premise, it could all fall apart later down the road.
If you want an anime where you can do that, I'd go for Space Battleship Yamado. The show is ripe with that sort of post-war wangst. In fact, there's a Japanese academic that's done some work with this interpretation. Look up Hiroki Azuma.
Safebooru is the typical choice for your generally SFW pictures. However, be warned, there's probably plenty in there NSFW. There are other boorus, but we don't post those here.

It's a lot safer than Sankaku, but of course if you look enough you'll find some NSFW things there too, but you really need to be looking for it to find it.
