His work in Seto no Hanayome/Ragnarok the Animation did worry me until I saw the trailers. :S
I doubt the anime is going to be garbage, but the trailer doesn't give me any faith it'll be paced well.

Not that I'd want Persona 4 to go in that direction.
The director in question contributed to the OVAs, not the TV series. Yeah...

So despite it being given such a high and resounding recommendation from multiple types of anime fans you're just going to refuse to bump it up the list and ignore it for a few more years?

Well, I guess trolling current anime is time consuming work.

Hype Aversion for the win!

Ahem.

Nonoriri

If your name is Nonoriri you have to go buy Nanami's tampons.

What about Violence Jack? They censor the wang, so it's more like an art-house flick.

True art has fully nude men and women.

Anime-GAF is unusually cynical. =p

It's not cynicism, it's realism!

Are we still talking about Seiji Kishi? He directed both.

I enjoyed Sunred and Seto no Hanayome, but all of his recent series - Carnival Phantasm, Angel Beats, Kamisama Dolls (what I saw of it) - have been bad. Not a good sign.

I don't think we're going to be friends, are we? :(

Why doesn't ANN used one name? Sigh.

No clue, ANN does a lot of stupid shit tho, so I quit keeping track of that stuff and just remind myself to double check.

I would like to personally apologies for Japan and their animation industry's output and offer you a hand-crafted selection of enjoyable shows to watch, if you want. There's probably some good work that you've missed!

As someone who has always had a mild interest in anime, and has watched a recommended series here and there, these threads/trailers don't inspire any confidence in me watching these shows.
As I mentioned above, I can give you a tailored recommendation for actually good shows, if you'd like.

Kamisama Dolls is pretty average. A far cry from the shit that is Carnival Phantasm.

I hope Persona goes in that direction because the best parts of the game are the wacky highschool hijinks.

Anime Killing Potential: 87%

This is going to be bad.

The anime looks to emphasize the harem aspects of the series while playing up the fanservice, and the awful art doesn’t help. They have dwarf-faces, all squashed up with giant eyes and lips pressed together in a style reminiscent of KEY-art. It’s not appealing, is in fact quite hideous, and the generally poor quality of the footage we’ve seen so far is the very opposite of promising.

Also has the honor of having the worst opening song this season. Really, it’s trash all around.

So basically, this show won't have many friends.

It’s an eroge adaptation
.

To be fair it will probably be less boring than Ergo Proxy.
Phi Brain: God’s Puzzle

Anime Saving Potential: 10%

This could be pretty fun, who knows. Most notable thing about the show seems to be that Junichi Sato is directing, so maybe all the puzzles and mazes and such are just ploys to insert heartwarming scenes into hot blooded shonen situations.

I love how shounen authors spend all this time thinking up interesting scenarios just to end up in the same place every time with generic shounen battles.

Anime Saving Potential: 15%

ZZZ Potential: 45%

It’s another ‘healing anime’ from Junichi Sato. Expect fluffy cute feelings emanating from cartoon girls to soothe your weary heart, but with cameras and stuff. The OVAs were apparently pretty good.

Five out of five Firehawks.

Mobile Suit Gundam Age

Anime Saving Potential: 0%

It’s Gundam, so it’s kind of a big deal, I guess.

Meh.

Gundam is saved.

Anime Saving Potential: 0%

Wacky premise shows some promise, but really, it’s going to turn to haremshit so why bother?

EmmanuelMunoz - “If you have ever been in no holds bar fight for a half-price bento box, you can relate to this show. There are wizards, secret societies, and vicious battles, what is not to like? You will never look at day old supermarket food the same way again!”

Well they have to throw in sex appeal I guess, because people can just go to Walmart if they want to see people fighting over cheap food.

A bunch of manly bros doing bro things. Kanbe, the director, worked on Elfen Lied and Sora no Woto before this. And then there’s Reiko Yoshida (K-ON, Aria).

Wait, the director of Elfen Lied also directed Soro no Woto? I'm starting to regret agreeing to watch that.

Working’!!

Anime Saving Potential: 0%

ZZZ Potential: 45%

It’s the second season of Working!!, now called Working’!!. Expect the third season to be called Working”!!.

For whatever reason I was fond of its first season - it was a mostly dull show filled with annoying characters, but the two cute girls it had somewhat kept me amused through all those episodes - but I was really bored by the preview episode that was released a few weeks ago for the second season, and most likely won’t bother with the series anymore.

A new director and writer are behind the show now, and the changes were somewhat noticeable, yet it’s still the same old Working!! in the end.

If I wanted to watch a show about cute girls working I'd just watch Hanasaku Iroha. Oh wait, I am!

Invasion?! Squid Girl

ZZZ Potential: 50%

Sequel to the totally harmless, if dull, comedy.

Sounds more or less right.

Bakuman 2

[im]http://i.imgur.com/tOpMg.jpg[/img]

More Bakuman for people who care, for whatever reason.

I stopped watching after the first episode because of the unbelievably stupid premise,
is he still not dating the girl because of the agreement?

Usagi Drop OVA

October 28, 2011. Bundled with the blu-ray volume 1.

I had no idea this existed. Season saved.

Hidamari Sketch x SP

October 29th~November 5th.

Double saved?
Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi - 3 -

The last of the Yozakura Quartet OVAs. November 9th, 2011.

Triple saved?

Did Broken Blade ever go anywhere? The first one was like, a little interesting but boring at the same time.
Sadly, I feel you've descried most of them. Which I think is a shame, especially if, like me, you want to see a good mecha show.

Or even a good show.

I really want the camping trip.

I crave the camping trip.

Need an entire episode or two devoted to it.

I rather have haremshit shenanigans and a certain school festival episode like a certain anime last season.

I swear to god I must be the only person watching P4A for the fight scenes as much as the school/social link hijinks?

Huh? It's not based on a manga (Sunrise Original!) and it doesn't sound like there are any shounen battles involved.

That's what Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere is for. I'm expecting stock animation attacks mostly in the P4 anime.

I'll probably end up starting it at some point during these three months of famine.

I hope they're good. Kamisama Dolls shows that Kishi can direct some decent action scenes if he tries.

I would like to congratule Dresden on one fine OP. It's...

Utena-19-Nanami-eyes.gif

..beautiful.

I say this as someone who has crafted a number of anime-flavoured threads, but never a seasonal one. I just wouldn't know where to begin or how much time to invest. I guess they all turn out to be enjoyable in their own special ways.

Probably just you. :p

Shounen battles are kind of the point of... battle shounen. Not really sure which ones you've been reading/watching because you clearly know nothing about the genre (I assume none other than Yozakura Quartet and FMA).

Also, what flawfuls said. This looks shounen in the same way as Spiral and Death Note, not battle shounen.

See, not everyone in this thread is a hardened cynic.

Just give it a few seasons and you'll be like everyone else though. Which I don't think is a bad thing.
I remember I used to enjoy a lot more shows before coming here and becoming the cynical and jaded bastard that I am today.

Thank you, animegaf.

Is it? Well, maybe it will actually be good then.

There will be four in all (one for each volume), but they're called "original mini stories", so I expect them to be quite short.

If you want good fight scenes, watch Yozakura Quartet OVA 3 like the cool kids are.
I don't know or care about any of the characters in Yozakura Quartet but my god those are some pretty sweet fight scenes.

Alternatively, you could watch this and pretend it's Despera.

Though it still won't be.

Who doesn't? Producer-san is a pretty cushy job. You get to harass fifteen year old girls with calls and text messages to your heart's content before hunting them down and chasing them around public places.
Yeah, but where's the fun if you can't also get drunk and smack them around while rave music plays.

What's the latest word on Despera anyway? Last bit of news I heard was that it was on hold due to Ryutaro Nakamura's health issues, but that was a while ago.
