2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

Second is far, far preferable.

I actually updated the second image a bit to make it not universally grainy and hopefully just correct the banded parts.

Updated banded one -

Alright so I've got a new end result now that I'm a lot happier with after toying around a bit.

I like that one better.. but it IS a bit grainy.

Banding is the reason I don't think I ever posted this one:

This is what I was able to do with your shot after doing some tinkering.

Use Lingon's +21 trainer for Blood Dragon - it has a hud toggle. Pain in the butt that it occupies so many other hotkeys but if you avoid them and just want to use the no-hud, it shouldnt be a problem. I used that for a ton of my vanilla Far Cry 3 screenshots after discovering it. I don't have much interest in taking screenshots of blood dragon. It's fun though :)

Rage turned me off when I kept getting texture pop up when turning camera around and I did almost like every tweaks out there. Will it be better if I put it on SSD this time? Seriously it was really turning me off. Never bothered to play it then...

I have install this on a Raid0 setup and not on my SSD, if i play it on 1080p with 8K textures + 4AA i get minor next to none pop in (with cfg tweaking) but I hit my Vram limit pretty easy and thats the cause. It's not a demanding game, even on 2160p gpu usage is ~65-75% with 60fps and when i hit Vram limit at wasteland area everything is falling apart

RAGE is BEAUTIFUL.

Rage is... alright. I mean the textures, when the resolution is sufficient, are very detailed. The artists on that game were pretty talented. Sadly, the engine's faults become apparent where they decided to use low res textures... which is in a LOT of places... to save space. It's hard to justify the install size when there are plenty of better looking games with even higher res textures that take up far less space.

Also, baked lighting\shadows are also a downer. And that sharpen filter to alleviate the low res textures really doesn't help much.

I started to take screenshots of that game... but every time I examined them for more than a few seconds, I started to vomit. The only one I'd care to post is probably this one:

DAT JPG sky...

Character models looked pretty great though.

we are in need of the 780 with 6GB of vram now

damn imagine how many graphic mods you could install in skyrim .

my current Skyrim almost makes my 660 2GB want to commit suicide.

I noticed that you always post 1600x900 screenshots. I'm assuming you play at 3200x1800 and that you have a 1600x1900 display when you're taking these screenshots yeah?

If so, why not just downsample to 1080p? 3200x1800 is a good size for downsampling there.

The problem with RAGE is that the whole megatextures thing was a bit ahead of its time. Current gaming hardware doesn't have quite enough memory for it. To get the textures looking the best they can and still run the game it's recommended you have a graphics card with 3GB of VRAM. Next gen consoles should be much more suited to it though, which is why I'm excited to see what the idTech 5 engine can do in the future.

What I'm really excited for is the prospect of Shinji Mikami using megatextures for The Evil Within (since he's using id5 for the game). I heard the environment artist who worked on REmake and RE4 is working on this game, and both of those games had incredible-looking environments for their time (REmake still looks impressive). With megatextures and that quality of background art, the PC and next gen versions of The Evil Within could look fucking ridiculous.

For some reason my computer doesn't like GTA 4 downgraded to 1.0.4.0 for some reason and nothing works.

I had some real trouble getting it to work, need to try again something next week now that I have the time to mess around with it. Downgrading is such a pain, should try finding my retail copy. Missing the first disk :/

All in favour of a ban on Project Cars screenshots to stop us who didn't buy in on time from feeling extreme jealousy, say I!

:(

Yeah, 2048x1152 is as high as my monitor will let me set to custom resolution. It bugs out beyond that. So I keep it at that res, and downsample the shots to 1600x900. I suppose I could just DS to 1080. It's mostly why I havn't been posting in Corky's thread.
