How easy is it to mod Fallout 3?

I've been wanting to play through it again on PC; I wonder if my card can handle texture mods.

Much much easier than FNV. Textures mods aren't so bad. It's when you go crazy with grass density or drawing distance that it becomes heavy.

Those look great, I don't think anyone will complain. How's performance on PSCX2?

It runs perfectly fine, although the fog and shadows are bugged thanks to the game's draw distance. So you have to disable Alpha in the configuration of the DX11 plugin. Moreover, scaling produces this weird black vertical and horizontal border. The game isn't scaling either when peeping through 302's door.

Personally, I would probably recommend the PC version *if* one doesn't mind the 15FPS cutscenes, lack of the 3-second chromatic abberation effect when travelling between worlds, and the fact that you have to set up the controller and adjust gamma/brightness.

Applying SSAA and higher non-demanding widescreen resolutions simply make it worth it, imo.

I don't have a screenshot to post. Instead I have some questions.

I have GTA San Andreas on Steam. Unfortunately, it does not support 1920x1080 as a resolution.

It kind of leaves a mess on the screen as my monitor upscales the max resolution of 1680x1050. I didn't think it would cause a problem, but things like chain link fences and sidewalks look blurry.

I have been using the nvida control panel to force Q CSAA and SuperSampling. But it doesn't seem to help.

Anyone here have tips on how to make San Andreas look its best?

Why is FNV so much more difficult to mod in comparison? Thought it might been me failing but been getting a lot more crashes and difficulty in properly setting load orders and such.

have you tried BOSS ?

If not do it it sorts out your load order automatically and makes notes of any conflicts.

Yeah, it helped me resolve some issues I was having but still encountering far more than I ever did with 3. Only problem with boss is at times it tells me to do the exact opposite of what the creators recommend. Ie boss puts something first, person who created the mod says it should be at the very bottom.

in my experience i always trusted BOSS over the author unless explicitly the author says that boss in doing it wrong.

have over 50 mods and it is running smooth for me.

The lighting in FNV is way different... and honestly, much worse. The color palette is gross and the terrain is less detailed overall. I've seen gorgeous configurations for Fallout 3, but New Vegas... has yet to impress me. Period. It's ugly.

Silent Hill 4 through PCSX2 6xNative + SMAA
I would be curious to see a comparison of emulator vs. PC version.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if the emulator looks better.

I would rather play a lot of PS2 games that had PC ports at the time on an emulator now, instead.

Today we have DOF, Cromatic Aberration, Anamorphic Lens falre. In the PS2 past we had dithered /deasaturated colors, grain and films filters. What would the next visual vice be?

See my post above about the differences. Both emulation and the PC version each have their own pros and cons. I would personally rather want proper AA with 15FPS cutscenes (PC) than no AA and emulation glitches (PS2).

From a visual perspective, there's not much difference than the two versions, except for AA. The noise filter in the PC version seems to be up-rendered, while it's upscaled in the emulated version:

PCSX2 version

To sum up the drawbacks between the two:

PC
  • 15 FPS cutscenes
  • Default brightness and gamma needs adjustment
  • Controller support needs to be configured
  • 3-seconds heavy noise filter in between levels and victim death scenes aren't present
  • Real-time shadows look terrible, as they lack softness.

PS2
  • Emulation hiccups
  • Black borders between scaling
  • Shadows need to be disabled
  • SMAA the best AA option in PCSX2, as 6x native isn't sufficient (if you have a beefy PC, you can simply brute-force high amounts of scaling with above 6x scaling)

Wasn't there some kind of fix for that in the Silent Hill PC thread? I could swore I used said fixes on SH2 and SH3 when I did my playthrough.

particles my friend.
millions of particles

I'll take a shit ton of particles over Chromatic Aberration ANY DAY.

Wanny, those shots are neat but is there any way to change how the DOF is applied? In your game it looks stylized, almost as if it's a watercolor effect.
